Too cold and wet out there

Grace says "Thank you" Geraldine and Kat-ladies at GNHQ for saying mum doesn't need to stay out here any longer. I think she has learned her lesson but it has been an education for her to read lots of posts without giving in to the temptation to respond. And not a lot of kennels have wi-fi you know.

Thank you for messages of support and even jo5 saying I can come back .
Quote: "Give it a few days. You will start to feel better and then you could come back." [pathetically grateful] emoticon, but then I read on and well, no surprises there.
Like the ins and outs of parliamentary procedure I do hope that it was more how I expressed myself rather than the sentiments but it was reassuring that a lot of Grannies seemed to agree with me. But 'nuff said (I am educated enough to know that is not how you spell it, just a turn of phrase) If it is occasionally like having to walk through the boys' lavatories to get to the library, so be it. I will look on' it as a tolerable price to pay for the friendship I have met, the supportive advice and the (mostly) intelligent observations of my fellow Grannies.
I know this is a different thread but if I may just comment on jo5's "advice" to anybody contemplating joining Gransnet, it amounts to four words - be sincere- be genuine.
It's not about education, it's not about spelling, it's not about who can shout the loudest and it's not about who can be the wittiest.
"To thine own self be true" - and you can't go far wrong.

Surely 'anticipate' (which is what Movedalot said) indicates something pleasant?

jO5 Mon 26-Nov-12 17:11:48

I would like to make it clear that this particular bish-bash is nothing to do with me. smile [halo]

Sel Mon 26-Nov-12 17:15:04

Gather girls, gather! I won't tolerate this bickering in the bikeshed. Moving on from the common room I see Headmistress Geraldine benignly watching her charges and shaking her head.

Movedalot Mon 26-Nov-12 17:34:14

So Ana do you think that was deliberate? Why would Greatnan miss-quote me? Any chance she will apologise? It really is beginning to look like she is trying to make trouble for me, first implying I am someone else and now this.

Stansgran Mon 26-Nov-12 17:41:36

So is it true that the AllBlacks aren't really scary Antipodeans just a load of pussycats who are quite good at rugby?

Ana Mon 26-Nov-12 17:41:39

I'm sure she can answer for herself.
wink

Sel Mon 26-Nov-12 17:42:32

Movedalot (vain attempt to diffuse here) my cupboards are sparkling, my recycling is overflowing - I drew the line at alphabetic herbs and spices. I did find a post it note attached to cayenne pepper 'note to self, never substitute cayenne pepper for paprika' I have retained the note. smile

Movedalot Mon 26-Nov-12 17:43:12

Ana touche! grin

jO5 Mon 26-Nov-12 17:45:05

Greatnan plays rugby?! shock

annodomini Mon 26-Nov-12 17:48:52

Saw a picture of very famous All Black, Dan Carter, visiting an elderly persons' home. After he had left, my sister's MiL (admittedly 100) turned round and said, 'Who was that very nice young man?' So far from scary, but I wouldn't like to meet those forwards in the middle of a scrum - not that it's very likely.

Movedalot Mon 26-Nov-12 17:51:06

Sel Do you feel really smug now? Have you examined the whole house for any signs of slobbery? Any such test would find me sadly wanting I'm afraid! Now you deserve a still drink and a pat on the back. wine Just hope no one is expecting me to be as virtous.

j05 I can just visualise it! grin

Ana Mon 26-Nov-12 17:54:59

Sel might want a fizzy drink...hmm

jO5 Mon 26-Nov-12 17:57:30

So can I. smile

Stansgran Mon 26-Nov-12 18:04:07

Sel that is just not on-just come back from Spain and all good housewives have their spices in alphabetical order with herbs on different shelves to the ground spices and to the unground ones-get back in there

If we are going to talk about potential antipodean Gransnetters – and it is a kind of odd topic of conversation that isn't going to interest anybody very much – it should be pointed out that, at their nearest, New Zealand and Australia are 1,000 miles apart and the air fares are absurd.

I might visit Australia as I have family, dating back three generations, and so does Mr absent, dating back one, who live there. Chances are we shall be too lazy. It's unlikely that we shall meet up with family, let alone strangers.

Meanwhile, by pure coincidence, Greatnan has a daughter living in a small town or village where my daughter and son-in-law have just bought some land to build a home for their family. As we are both planning to emigrate – although some years apart – I would guess that we shall meet up sooner or later.

I don't see that either of us is a cause for anxiety for anyone else living in the Southern Hemisphere. And, for the record because I know that you have got into quite a state about my postings in the past, I promise not to turn up on your doorstep Faye. grin

Sel Mon 26-Nov-12 18:34:33

Stansgran crikey, i have a mountain to climb but right now I'm feeling quietly smug. Go ye and check your cuboards!

Ana would tonic suffice?

Movedalot sheesh, I only tackled the kitchen cupboards. And, yes, quietly smug I think describes it. grin The rest I can blame on the staff gringrin

london I hope you don't regret venturing out smile

annodommi not sure of the context of your post confused did you play rugby? Do you? Are you suggesting Antipodeansupremecy? smile And apologies, I'm too new to understand all these neuances..

jO5 Mon 26-Nov-12 18:56:12

anno plays rugby.

annodomini Mon 26-Nov-12 19:12:34

In my dreams!

annodomini Mon 26-Nov-12 19:16:11

Or possibly nightmares.

Sel Mon 26-Nov-12 19:19:47

anno respect - I'm just thinking back to school days. For me winter = hockey, chapped legs, long socks, inaquate hockey boots. Purple thighs..frozen ground. It was slightly better than it was the boys though as they were injured, we were only bruised. It's such a brutal game, well done you. Do you play now? Are there Grannies' leagues?

london Mon 26-Nov-12 19:23:57

sel no regrets but am going to get my dictionary as there's words on hear that i dont understand smile

gracesmum Mon 26-Nov-12 19:31:20

Hear the bad weather heading for the North-East, london and others - keep warm and keep safe!
Sometimes I feel like emulating the grandparents in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory (?) - staying in bed smile

crimson Mon 26-Nov-12 19:35:30

Apart from going out on Saturday night I stayed in bed pretty much all weekend [and slept on the sofa this afternoon]. Sometimes I just want to hibernate. Like now.

annodomini Mon 26-Nov-12 19:36:44

Sel, believe nothing that JO says. wink I was joking about the All Blacks and she has managed wilfully to misinterpret what I said grin. Yes, it was hockey for me too. I once got the ball on my mouth which fortunately was closed at the time, but otherwise spectacularly bruised shins. Strangely, I enjoyed it but only made it to the second XI - so disappointed.

london Mon 26-Nov-12 19:37:54
