What should you be doing instead of reading this?

I really ought to:
finish vacuuming
do the ironing
prepare tea
clean the bathroom
feed the birds
do my time on the rowing machine

It's just that reading and sending posts on Gransnet is soooooooo much more fun.

Should have been doing all/or nearly all of the things listed above but best friend took me out for the day, shopping and meeting friends for lunch. Her idea of treating me for cat-sitting! Too generous! But what a lovely treat.

Tomorrow I DO MEAN to get some of the list ticked but I am dog sitting my sons' two spaniels and when I am not walking them, they prefer that I sit quietly with them and read my book.

Oh *VQ Gransnet is so much more fun,

I should be.
Preparing food for my weekend guests.
Tidying up ...................... The Spare Bedroom.
Doing the ironing piled up in ditto
Making up the beds up in ... ditto
Cleaning the kitchen.
Cleaning the kitchen floor.
Working out where to go if it rains or snows on Monday.
Wrapping presents for the guests to take back for Christmas.

I wish I hadn't started this list!

Been working hard at my painting class this afternoon, which I am convinced is the ideal excuse to come home, light the fire and sit down with newspaper then laptop and wine All jobs can be shelved until tomorrow

FlicketyB Thu 29-Nov-12 20:02:13

I wrote this list earlier, but the internet went down.

Sorting the freezer
Cooking supper
Doing the washing
Editing a journal. This is the one I really ought to be doing but I have been putting it off for weeks, dont know why. Will be burning the midnight oil next week as I have an editorial meeting next Friday

Since then I have sorted the freezer and cooked (and eaten) supper. The washing can wait until tomorrow and I am back on Gransnet to avoid the journal - and I enjoy enditing it!

Marelli, my daughter used to haunt the salerooms in Canterbury and got some really good furniture, including a triple wardrobe for £200. She used to love charity shops too - I am not sure if she has found many in Nelson, New Zealand yet!
I have to admit to watching nearly all the daytime antique shows and I sometimes wonder how the professionals make a living when they get things so wrong!

Marelli Thu 29-Nov-12 20:54:08

When you have the bug for hunting down old stuff, I don't think you ever shake it off, Greatnan. smile

I should be cutting out the lining for the pinafore dress.
But, I'm too tired after an early start for welsh tribunal this am.
Tomorrow will do.
I'm to bed soon , so I'll say goodnight moon

That brought back some memories Marelli. My paternal grandparents had a phone like that in a small panelled room in the hall. The room also had a built in padded seat. smile

Greatnan Fri 30-Nov-12 09:20:06

There's posh, Kitty! When my brother finally had a phone installed for my mother, who lived with him, she was afraid to use it. She always swore she knew it was me ringing by the sound the phone made. It took a long time to get her to hold the receiver close to her face - she used to hold it about a foot away as she was convinced that electricity came out of it (and of course she thought it came out of the light when it was switched on without a bulb).
I miss that crazy old lady!

kittylester Fri 30-Nov-12 09:56:34

I rarely remember the phone ringing at my Granny's house Greatnan but when it did, it echoed like mad in the tiny room and I ran for cover! grin

Good morning all. This computer keyboard doesn't half sound loud. The hearing aid...£2000 worth of wonder, thanks to the NHS, is making a world of difference. Aren't we lucky to be so well catered for. Took a while to get the hang of inserting the aid. Went around for a wee while with what sounded like a canary whistling in my ear. That was until I realised that it was improperly inserted. hmm I'm really happy with the quality of sound. Had no idea that I was missing so much. sunshine smile

glassortwo Fri 30-Nov-12 13:01:45

soop glad you got all sorted out, would you have a word with my DH I cant get him to go and he is missing more and more conversations then he insists I never told him shock

Well I have stretched my lunch out as long as I can I suppose I had better start hmm

glammanana Fri 30-Nov-12 13:04:41

Wow soop you are lucky and yes we truely are looked after when it comes to things like this, just think sweetie when you meet someone who rambles on a wee bit you can disconnect them via selective hearing aid.lol.

soop Fri 30-Nov-12 13:11:38

glass I've been aware for ages that I was missing much of a conversation, especially when in a group of people [like noisy GNs]. wink Although an aid cannot fully restore hearing loss, it does make a ^huge* improvement. I'm thankful that I made the effort to seek help. I hope that your husband takes your advice. He won't regret it.

soop Fri 30-Nov-12 13:14:10

glamma grin

soop Fri 30-Nov-12 14:40:03

I should be ironing. Have included latest photo of Wee Man - in bed [complete with crash helmet and magic wand] pretending to have his heart mended. His grandpa in Derbyshire has just been given a new valve. smile

soop Fri 30-Nov-12 14:41:02

and now...I'm off to do the ironing...hmm

annodomini Fri 30-Nov-12 15:02:14

What a bonnie wee lad that is, soop. I wish I knew what I've done with the picture of one of mine sound asleep with a Santa hat on.
