Today was expected to be the top day of the year for internet shopping. Did you buy on line today? I did - a shirt for DS on the M&S web site - 20% off all day today but only on line. So if you want to take advantage of it, you need to get a move on!

I bought quite a bit of stuff online yesterday - I wanted to beat the rush! grin

Grannylin Mon 03-Dec-12 20:10:46

I bought a steam floor cleaner online- the cleaning thread pricked my conscience!

I ordered groceries to be delivered on the 23rd December.

I cleared snow off my car and watched TV and read. I have done all my Christmas shopping - i.e. sent money to the mothers of my great-grand-daughters and vouchers to the grandchildren who are still at school in NZ
Job done. I won't be home at Christmas, but I will take my sister shopping when I arrive at her house in Manchester.

I went mad and ordered some photo frames and a photo album for all the photos I got back from Snapfish today. C day shopping already done.

A Swiss army knife

Up in a rush this morning as DD1 had locked herself out of her house, so a mad scramble to clear snow from car so that DH could run along with spare key. The TV news was on but I had turned the sound down to answer the phone and there was this woman - apparantly called Megan Monday - it said so on the ticker underneath. I didn't give it another thought, other than that it seemed a funny way to spell Mundy (DDs MIL's maiden surname) until I spotted this thread. Did you hear that big CLUNK five minutes ago? That was the penny dropping.grin

Got a quote for a new boiler does that count?

jeni Mon 03-Dec-12 22:05:14

Got a Chinese takeaway?

Ana Mon 03-Dec-12 22:30:08

Oh - I booked tickets for a Pantomime yesterday as well! Aladdin - the GDs are really looking forward to it.

gracesmum Mon 03-Dec-12 22:50:43

I didn't know it was today! I ordered some stuff from White Company late-ish last night to take advantage of Telegraph 20% off, but despite being very organised in my planning, or so I thought, I am finding a lot of the nicer things have sold out. I wonder if the retailers are carrying lower stocks so that they don't have to sell too much in the sales?

glammanana Tue 04-Dec-12 10:51:01

I sneeked back on line yesterday to take advantage of massive discounts from Landsend and their free delivery and everything I ordered was from my shopping list so no impulsive purchases

annodomini Tue 04-Dec-12 11:14:29

Well done, glamma. I couldn't find a single thing I wanted or needed.

Bought stuff from Debenhams 3 weeks ago, now they`re giving 30% off!!

harrigran Tue 04-Dec-12 16:33:44

I always buy at full price then fume at the reductions, story of my life.

annodomini Tue 04-Dec-12 16:46:31

I once bought a cotton/linen blend cardigan from Landsend and subsequently ordered another when they were reduced. Bless them, they refunded the difference on the first one, because they said they knew how frustrating it was to buy something and the find almost immediately that it had been reduced. I didn't even ask them. That is first class customer service.

glammanana Tue 04-Dec-12 18:00:59

anno I must confess I got e-mail from them to-day to say discount and free del still available so bought the Down Parka which I was going to wait until next year for,I have now given my card to mr.g. with instructions to shoot me if I ask for it.

lionlilac Tue 04-Dec-12 18:13:21

Yeah. Really tried not to. Decided in the morning that I was NOT going to buy another thing on line this year. 6pm ordered a cam corder from Argos. Weak weak failure that I am.

annodomini Tue 04-Dec-12 18:16:55

I noticed that the discount was continued today and had another look, but really couldn't persuade myself to indulge. Am I sickening for something?

burnette Wed 05-Dec-12 19:47:34

would love to do some on line shopping but a bit nervous of taking the plunge for the first time, sure I am going to get conned any tips would be appreciated for safe on line shopping

Ana Wed 05-Dec-12 19:55:23

I felt the same at first, burnette, but honestly I think if you stick to well-known established firms you can't really go wrong. I've been shopping online for several years now and even on e-bay have never fallen prey to any scams or cons. Start small and work your way up - I've always found Amazon to be very reliable. (Their tax avoidance record notwithstanding!)

UnigranMA Thu 06-Dec-12 15:12:20

Black Monday managed without me but I do most shopping on line anyway unless it's for food or the occasional special gift. Most major stores and supermarkets have good sites and Amazon is a godsend in my experience, especially with their returns policy.

It's great, you don't have to fit it around school runs, football, gym. ballet, nursery...!

feetlebaum Fri 07-Dec-12 10:40:28

Grannylin - please report on how well the steam cleaner you bought performs - I see them advertised, with shouty "And there's more!" type sales pitch, but I've learned not to trust that kind of ad!! But I am tempted to get one of those...

jeni Fri 07-Dec-12 11:32:46

I have the Vax one, its brilliant
