Which is your favourite TV Crime Series , There are many of them on
the TV at the moment .Leaving Poirot out of this for the time being , I
for one prefer ' Lewis ' but in all honesty I Prefer Sgt. Hathaway as the
character on account of the way his Cambridge education is portrayed and
exchanges in conversation beween him and Lewis .

Hi harvatt, I quite like Lewis, because I know Oxford well and I enjoy the locations, but I'm not that sure about the many bodies in each episode. One murder is seldom enough for them! I liked Vera, again because of the setting, and I enjoyed those two female cops in Scott and Bailey. If we're talking 'international' - I was absolutely hooked on The Wire (which had Dominic West in a starring role). And not forgetting Commissario Salvo Montalbano!

We like the really gritty ones like Whitechapel. I loved Morse but Lewis plods along too slowly. Scott and Bailey are great and Midsomer Murders is good for a laugh but I preferred John Nettles to the new bloke.

We have read all the DCI Banks books but don't like the TV adaptations. Stephen Tompkinson is all wrong but I can't think who I'd like to see in the part instead.

Lewis, Midsomer (I think Neil Dudgeon is excellent), New Tricks; they'll do for me. The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries was good, too.

merlot you're right about DCI Banks, Tompkinson is too 'pained' in it.

I like a lot of American series such Hill Street Blue, The Mentalist, The Closer, N.Y.P.D and The Shield etc. Monk is a favourite too.

As for British series I tend to go for the gritty ones such as Cracker, Rebus, White Chapel but I do like Vera.

A lot of the British ones might have good stories but they can be a bit tame and sometimes the acting can be a bit wooden, the scenes too not very realistic.

Homeland, if that's considered a crime series...well, it's terrorist crime so I guess so. I can't bear to watch at times, it's so tense!!

I like the CSI programmes, except CSI Miami (is there a worse actor than David Caruso!). I have recently taken to watching Burn Notice. Law and Order UK is another favourite. Bones, Mentalist, Monk, NCIS and Dexter.

I like CSI NY best of the three series. The characters have changed too often in the original Las Vegas series. I agree that Stephen Tompkinson is wrong for DCI Banks - I still think of him as the outrageous reporter, Damien Day, in the late lamented Drop the Dead Donkey.

I like Foyle and Vera.
I heard David Suchet on the radio over the weekend saying he had filmed the episode of Hercule's demise.

Bez , Sad in many ways , I like to picture Poirot as the little man
say in middle age - that dapper little man with all his idiosyncrasies !

Barrow grin Me too! Plus The Closer, Blue Bloods, Rizolli(?) & Isles, Castle and Criminal Minds. Not wild about the UK series, except Midsomer Murders and Whitechapel.

I love Morse, Lewis and Endeavour. Then Midsommer Murders, Vera and, Inspector Lynley. Then Adam Dalgliesh and Wallander. Poirot and Sherlock Holmes last but not least.

I'm going off the latest Scandinavian ones as they all seem to be about serial killers and paedophiles [or both at the same time]. Looking forward to the one on Ch4 [?] tonight with Olivia Coleman and Paddy Considine [local lad made good wink],

Nonu Sun 12-May-13 15:15:09

I like the Murdoch Mysteries on alibi

Galen Sun 12-May-13 15:27:28

Bones, midsommer murders and NCIS

Nelliemoser Sun 12-May-13 15:28:53

Lewis. I enjoy the way the relationship between Lewis and Hathaway is portrayed. Morse and Endeavour also! Scott and Bailey. Midsomer Murders is just fun really not to be taken too seriously. A Touch of Frost was a different type of crime drama though. Not keen on Poirot . I did enjoy Foyles War was also very good.

The trouble with the Scandinavian ones is that the are "dark" in all senses of that word, and you have to read the subtitles which makes knitting difficult.
I used to enjoy the American one set in New York with the two women, can't remember what it was called right now.

Cagney & lacy . Nellie

Nonu - have you seen the "Miss Fisher Mysteries" also on Alibi. We love it and I have now started buying the books for my Kindle (as I did when I first started watching the "Murdoch Mysteries".

Deedaa Sun 12-May-13 17:29:39

Always loved Morse, but enjoy Lewis too. Misomer Murders is always fun and they always have such good people in it (especially Sykes!) New Tricks is a favourite and my husband has just downloaded the first series of Hill Street Blues which has been great to revisit. Absolute favourite has to be Inspector Montalbano - sex on (bandy) legs grin

Nonu Sun 12-May-13 17:30:12

Gillie , I have , love them both as you do . I love all the period costumes .
Also is Murdoch & " the Girl " can"t remember her name , going to finally get together . Love all the lingering looks , and he is to die for , do you agree ?

Nelliemoser Sun 12-May-13 18:20:01
