Does anyone else think that there is far too much petty bickering on GN

If you read the threads there is quite a bit of banter between members, I am sooo dissapointed at this because at our age we really should know better. It makes me feel un comfortable and I have actually been at the other end of such goings on. Really not sure what response I am going to get with this thread but can not help but be honest.

IMHO there would have been far fewer wars in history if men had had the sense to segue into mince pies and icing when things got a bit heated.
Me? I'm working on the pickled peaches to serve with the ham on Boxing Day. (To go with the pickled people, I expect grin)

Whatever turns you on marelli wink

I used to make 3 Christmas cakes, one for MiL, one for Mum and one for us and mince pies for everyone as well. Mum used to make the Christmas puddings. Once MiL passed away and Mum emigrated I gave up making them

I don't eat Christmas cake or pudding but I am partial to the odd mince pie!

Nanado, they're still droopy, but I'm fed up now so I've just flung some silver balls on anyway! I think I've overworked the icing.....or myself hmm
gracesmum - 'pickled people' - I like that grin.

marelli Just read the last couple of pages, and am reminded of DH's line:

"What is worn under your kilt?"
"Nothing. it's all in perfect working order!" (In a Scottish accent)

Movedalot Thu 20-Dec-12 17:52:49

Ariadne grin

Ariadne Thu 20-Dec-12 17:58:44

Marelli you are bringing out the worst in me! If you just go immediately to this page you come across "...they're still droopy but I'm fed up now so I've just slung some silver on balls anyway..."

grin

Marelli Thu 20-Dec-12 18:21:47

Ariadne gringrin - you're bringing out the worst in me as well - as long as there's nothing droopy under the kilt, either....(oh now I'm being very silly)!

Ana Thu 20-Dec-12 18:23:07

With silver balls.....wink

Marelli Thu 20-Dec-12 18:28:43

.....hee hee!

jO5 Thu 20-Dec-12 18:31:50

hmm

johanna Thu 20-Dec-12 18:34:43

jo5
I think they mean silver balls must be better than tubular bells. grin
Sorry, could not help it. I is that time of the day again.

jO5 Thu 20-Dec-12 19:00:27

And again! hmm

gracesmum Thu 20-Dec-12 19:54:47

I see the Original Post and thread title each time I read this thread and I am so tempted to say "*No, there's not nearly enough*" grin

gracesmum Thu 20-Dec-12 19:55:19

Now why didn't that work?

Nanado Thu 20-Dec-12 20:05:59

I think things are on a lighter note now, must be because of the season of good will. I think grin yes, that must be it wink

Ana Thu 20-Dec-12 20:11:41

Rubbish! We just ran out of steam....grin

gracesmum I think it was because there wasn't a space before the first * and after the second * - I think they do it deliberately to confuse us!

Nelliemoser Thu 20-Dec-12 21:07:15

JO5 Are you actually saying that you make your own icing and marzipan or was that just an observation? grin

There are somethings that life is just too short for. A homemade cake yes! Marzipan and icing? Not B****y likely!

I was just debating whether or not to put just marzipan onto my cake. I quite like marzipan but not icing. It will probably get done on Christmas eve.

Marelli Was the cat white before you started icing the cake? grin

jO5 Thu 20-Dec-12 21:26:50

confused Of course I make my own marzipan and icing. Lots of people do. It isn't difficult. And I have a nice lot of marzipan trimmings left over. (yum)

They taught us at school how to do it.

Ready-made roll out icing is quite a modern invention.

Morning time! That's what smallest GS shouts the moment he wakes up. I love it, but then I don't hear it every morning at 5.30!

gracesmum Fri 21-Dec-12 22:49:15

Good grief - did this thread disappear off the bottom? Can't have that grin

Ariadne Sat 22-Dec-12 04:41:45

Morning time!!! Well, it is for me, dammit.

CHEELU Sat 22-Dec-12 05:01:26

Morning Ariadine--me too since I gave up my job I sometimes wake this early as body doesn't need so much sleep--nice and quite though I like that, Christmas just around the corner, can not wait for Christmas pudding and cream, love it..hope you have a good day today.

Bags Sat 22-Dec-12 06:50:49

Morning, earlies! This thread isn't what you'd think any more, is it? Morphed from the title to a 'good morning folks' thread. Love it.

I used to make my own marzipan and icing too. It was better than the bought stuff by a long chalk.
