If I do ,I end up looking like , well, let's say Danny La Rue!

Thing is you English ladies are so good with applying make up . Always have been. And the same for looking after your hair.
So, I shall try a tinted moisturiser and a cream blusher I think.
Maybe that will give me the lovely dewy radiant complexion.........
Or an oil slick!

I use tinted moisturiser in a natural tone. It doesn't settle into wrinkles and a little goes a long way. You also can't see any lines where the make-up stops. I put a little black eyeliner on my lower lids and use a pinky brown lipstick. That's all.....sorted!

I actually use powder bronzer johanna - not the glittery type, though, more of a terracotta. You can get cream or powder blushers in more subtle shades to suit your colouring - go for peach or apricot rather than pink!

As for the oil-slick look, there are foundations which give a matte finish - have a look around Boots or your favourite department store (don't let them give you a 'makeover' though - I did and ended up looking very startling! )

On the valuable advice of JessM some time ago, I started using Barbara Daly cream blusher from Tesco. It is easily absorbed and blends well with my natural skin colour and is far from expensive.

Moisturiser, then a sweep of Mac powder with a nice chunky brush, works for me, nice fine finish. No "foundation" needed! I also like the 'lip stain' stuff from Benefit or Body Shop also does one, slap it on the old lippers and also doubles up on the cheeks. Job done. I wear less and less mascara these days too. 2 of my SILs (I have 6) have recently had eyeliner tattooed on. Ew, not for me. And oh yes, the Barbara Daly blusher is wonderful, I'm never without that either.

I use the Barbara Daly cheek-to-cheek powder bronzer - very subtle, just gives a peachy tint...

johanna I have found a fab BB cream (blemish balm) made by Pure I bought it at my local Home & Bargain Store,it comes in two shades light/medium and is very light on the skin but the coverage is very good the effect is not heavy at all.I put it on by washing my face with it,just rub into palms and wash all over,I bought it by accident one day when I went shopping for something else for DD it's well worth trying and the price will not break the bank at £1.99 yes I had to check the price I was convinced it was wrong,after trying for a week I stocked up with it.

I mix my moisturiser with a little foundation, more foundation in the summer, when hopefully I've got a tan, and less in the winter. I top it with a translucent powder and a little powder blusher. Last year I tried a Benefit makeover & thought I looked great - until I got home and found I could scrape the foundation off with my fingernails! Not a good look

Years ago I used to use Vichy Lumineuse [sp] foundation and then they stopped making it. Tried all sorts over the years now using Elizabeth Arden pure finish mineral tinted moisturiser. This will last me forever but, blow me; guess what I saw in Boots yesterday? Vichy is back. What do I do? I soo want some but know if I buy it I won't use the other stuff. Colours; black, black and black. I did go through a grey phase [when grey was the new black] and brown [when that was the new black]. On the rare occasion that I go out I'll put on lots of clothes and then end up going out in a black t shirt with a scarf. Did have a bit of a Trinny and Susannah phase where I bought a few bright colours but I think the moths got them before I wore them. Big mistake my daughter made a few years back; I gave her the money to buy a really good pashmina from John Lewis. Her husband persuaded her to buy a cream one as she always wore black; she still regrets it.
