Boxing Day

Woke at 7. Feel fine, after the day out in Oxford with family, very large meal and no booze!
Back to normal - if possible?
I have a backlog of research work to do, a new doorknocker to put on my front door, and correspondance to catch up with.....

I never want to set eyes on Bailey's again, let alone drink it!

Well, I overestimated how much I would need for Christmas dinner, but with my two sons and daughter's partner staying chatting at the table whilst children started playing, and the women shifting all the dishes, the lot was gradually consumed - dog under the table gratefully receiving tit-bits of meat and sausages. No 2 son is still fast aseep, the dog slept for 12 hours, and I got a lie-in! What an enjoyable day, and to top it all, I came downstairs to a tidy kitchen - my son washed all the pots and pans before going to bed. Good man!

Making spinach soup today.

I feel I shouldn't eat for at least a week. I enjoyed making Christmas Diner, I made gravy from scratch = boiled veg for stock added wine, it was nice. And I did not have to do dishes as Son and girlfriend offered, which was lovely. DH was shattered due to all the extra hours he has been doing, so he went to sleep at 5.30pm. Was a good day. Hope everyone has a restful Boxing Day Best wishes..

Dog wants another walk.
I think he wants to finish at the cafe where I buy a coffee and drink it on the outside table.
Often he finds a dog friend and sometimes he gets a bit of cake or busciit either from the owner or another customer.

Well, having eaten two large (for me) roast dinners on Sunday and Monday, I couldn't face another yesterday, so just had a small bowl of left over chicken casserole!
So, my Christmas veal chops will be Boxing day chops instead!

I did manage to eat too many chocolates though!

Going to visit the S.O's mum who isn't feeling too well. Works out well as she is happy to watch the racing with us and we just have a cup of tea together. Won't visit anyone else as I'm back at work early tomorrow. I also don't need to make myself look human if we're going there. Dogs are great for having conversations with complete strangers, aren't they. My whippet loves other dogs and people, and sits blissfully happily by my side as I discuss life, the universe and everything with complete strangers .

A few tears yesterday but also remembering many happy Christmas'. Had phone call from my brother in Australia (it was evening there and I think he had already gotten through at least 1 bottle of wine!). Another phone call from sister-in-law, asking if I was sure I didn't want to join them and a visit from my neighbour, bringing a bottle with him!

Today I am relaxing but also expect some visitors later - now I am off for a walk across the fields before the rain starts!

Spent christmas day cooking finishing off things had a nice dinner late on. Watched but fell asleep in front of The Lavender Hill mob. Prepared for a light tea, which was just not needed after a big lunch. Then watched more silly television while DH pottered upstairs still putting his computer back together.

I feel it is possible in some circumstances to feel more lonely in a house with someone who does not engage, than if I was on my own.

Having a peaceful few minutes before the next lot arrive. That'll be five adults, five children and five dogs in total!

Yesterday was lovely. Everything went according to plan with no last minute dramas. Even the dogs were in laid-back mode. DH and I are now enjoying a cup of coffee before we attack the turkey and think of something to do with the left-overs for tonight's dinner. We're also having roast beef and sugar-baked ham. Won't it be lovely to get back to normal

I am waiting for a visitation tomorrow. Not the Angel Gabriel I hasten to add. DD.SIL and the cuddly little GS. Now 12/52 and according to DD now vocalising in a conversational manner. That should cheer me up, I need something!

and (((hugs))) nellie from one who fully understands how lonely you can feel when living with someone who won't engage. My DH can be absolutely fine but as soon as he doesn't get his own way over something move into sulk-mode - this often results in days of 'silence'.
Keep your focus on tomorrow and enjoy every second of cuddles with baby GS! I adore them aged 0 - 12months (nearer to '0' the better!) as they are so dependent upon you, stay where you left them (moreorless!) and don't quite know the words to answer back!
Once they hit 12months I reassess the situation but am delighted to say that all four GC passed the assessment and have not be sent back!

to Barrow too - Christmas is such an emotional turmoil for so many people and for so many reasons. God bless all our GN friends who are going through mixed emotions and every possible good wish for 2013!

I love Boxing Day! Nothing to do except make bubble and squeak and put anything else lying around in the pantry cupboard, fridge and work surfaces onto the table! Bliss

Hi Nellimoser my husband is a bit like that, non engaging and I used to get quite upset and irritated because I felt that there was no point of being with him...It caused countless of arguments, then I just accepted that this is his way, he is like that with everyone, so things better now that I have accepted it....

Funny thing is is that's what I liked about him when I first met him, the fact that he was quite!

Bought all the food, wine everything needed for Christmas, cooked yesterday, daughter (aged 44) popped across (she lives in a mobile home I have here) to have her meal, then left leaving evereything for me to clear up as usual, her new boyfriend was coming up, they are joined at the hip at the moment, so as usual spent most of the day by myself, my first real Christmas without my hubby, he died 20th December last year, so not really a jolly time at all, boyfriend still here so I said I am not cooking, you can take food with you if you want, they weren't going to come here & eat anyway.
