Why is it that anything that falls or is dropped in the kitchen always ends up in the cat's food or water bowl! Admittedly it is a small room, but really!
What are your experiences of this law?

glassortwo Sat 12-Jan-13 08:59:09

A slice of bread always falls butter down and a mess.

glassortwo Sat 12-Jan-13 09:00:21

hmm makes a mess sorry sending message on my phone.

The minute you buy something to replace a lost item, the lost thing turns up! (Certainly during a house move.)

Barrow Sat 12-Jan-13 10:14:20

buying the latest gizmo only to find 2 weeks later they have brought out an "improved" version

When you rush into the Post Office for a stamp you always get behind someone buying road tax.

annodomini Sat 12-Jan-13 10:43:01

You wait in for days for a package you're expecting; the day comes when you simply have to go out and when you come back there's a little notice from the postman that he tried to deliver it and I can collect it from the delivery office four miles away.

Pedants - sorry about the confusion of pronouns in the above post. blush

I spread Marmite on a Ryvita the other day, and as I turned to put the knife in the sink, my cardigan caught on the Ryvita and it fell on the floor face down (my Ryvita - not my cardigan). I spread another one and the same thing happened, but this time it was face-up - so I just ate it and gave the other one to the birds. I've lived to tell the tale (and you should see the state of my kitchen floor shockblush!

Sod's Law is in permanent residence here - I am on crutches and you have no idea how often I drop things! Nothing wrong with my hands, so no reason for it - but it is so frustrating as picking things up causes a bit of a pickle with the crutches, one of which usually finishes up on the floor too!

annodomini Sat 12-Jan-13 14:20:11

Mishap, when I was a bit incapacitated and on crutches after my hip operation, my neighbour lent me her gadget for picking things up off the floor or getting them down from high shelves. When I had to give it back, I went and bought one for myself and still find it useful. It's called a Helping Hand and is available here.

Nanado Sat 12-Jan-13 14:37:33

Is Sod's Law the same as Murphy's Law?

Mishap Sat 12-Jan-13 15:25:42

Great idea anno - I'll look into that!

matson Sat 12-Jan-13 15:29:05

that appliances always break in runs of three !

kittylester Sat 12-Jan-13 15:29:45

Anno that's called 'Grandma's hand' in our house. We somehow managed to bring MIL's home when we were clearing out their house and it lives in the umbrella pot in the hall. We use it loads for getting 'things ' that have fallen into inaccessible places etc. Every home should have one smile

annodomini Sat 12-Jan-13 15:50:35

If you have a disability aids shop in your neighbourhood, Mishap, they're sure to have one and it would be quicker than having to buy it on line.

vampirequeen Sat 12-Jan-13 15:52:22

Nando...yes it's the same law.

vampirequeen Sat 12-Jan-13 15:52:56

If you're trying to get somewhere in hurry every traffic light will be against you.

Jodi Sat 12-Jan-13 16:00:26

And if you've left plenty of time every traffic light will be green and you'll arrive far too early, so you've the choice between waiting in the car park or carrot cake at a nearby cafe. cupcake

Jodi Sat 12-Jan-13 16:03:47

Which reminds me I should have been somewhere 3 minutes ago shock

Wheniwasyourage Sat 12-Jan-13 17:32:22

Nanado the useful thing about this universal law's having 2 names is that you can call it Sod's Law unless you're with your MIL or GC, in which calling it Murphy's Law saves blush and explanations.

numberplease Sat 12-Jan-13 17:55:25

Things always go wrong just after the guarantee runs out.

Stansgran Sat 12-Jan-13 19:25:35

Wait till three things drop and then pick up(5 if you are on crutches) and wait for 3 lightbulbs to go before getting out the steps.

jeni Sat 12-Jan-13 20:16:55

If owt goes on floor!---- it stays there until someone comes.
And that includes me!

whitewave Sat 12-Jan-13 20:19:01
