What has happened to GN just lately?

It seems to me that the atmosphere here has changed recently, last month it was lovely and cosy with friendly remarks and a general feeling of goodwill and a willingness to support and comfort if necessary. Over the past two weeks or so there seems to have been a surfeit of sarcasm, sniping and school child accusations e.g. "I didn't start it, she did!" What on earth has happened? sad

I didn't want to cause offence all over again Faye hence the initials. I didn't actually mean to cause offence in the first place as when my son referred to me, affectionately I thought, as a TOB and I was quite tickled.

Faye Sat 19-Jan-13 22:38:57

Kali I had to scroll all the way back to see what TOB stood for. I did wonder. grin

Kali Sat 19-Jan-13 22:37:09

Bring it on nina not a problem smile
phoenix you are always highly entertaining grin

Anne58 Sat 19-Jan-13 22:28:03

nina you only have to look at my ramblings about coffee machines, underwear malfunctions and cat vomit to see that I could almost take "inconsequential posts" as a specialist subject!

Room for all, surely!

ninathenana Sat 19-Jan-13 22:21:04

I think I'll be a reader not a poster in future. As am worried I may be one of those guilty of "inconsequential posts"

Anne58 Sat 19-Jan-13 22:11:09

Well, whenim said I did at 12.15!

Kali Sat 19-Jan-13 22:09:12

You said I was a tad tactless to refer to Absent as a TOB.

annodomini Sat 19-Jan-13 22:06:38

I'm not sure what you're taking back, Kali but am happy to move on and get things on an even keel. Cheers! wine

Kali Sat 19-Jan-13 22:04:45

Am I being dense (again)? What phoenix?

Anne58 Sat 19-Jan-13 22:01:52

I got something right! (jumping up and down emoticon)

Kali Sat 19-Jan-13 21:59:30

anno I take it all back. absent i apologise now and see that you too are indeed a 'very sensitive plant'. I had been very wrong in my assessment. Mea culpa. Now let's all be friends and move on.

glammanana Sat 19-Jan-13 17:24:19

Well all the things you miss when you go to work on a Saturday grin

Kali Sat 19-Jan-13 16:46:26

Thanks petallus I did wonder.

Movedalot Sat 19-Jan-13 16:03:52

whenim64 Sat 19-Jan-13 16:01:32

Movedalot it's never too late. Welcome from me! smile

stansgran I agree with your comments about taking umbrage at others' comments and the fact that there is a 'cabin fever' feeling about!.

I did get concerned that I had inadvertently upset someone enough to make them sign off GN. But I cannot dislike someone I do not know..only disagree with or dislike what they say.

Movedalot Sat 19-Jan-13 15:41:55

I didn#t 'anounce' myself when I joined! I suppose its a bit late now grin

Grannyeggs Sat 19-Jan-13 15:39:38

Sorry stansgran

Grannyeggs Sat 19-Jan-13 15:39:10

I think that's it stands gran .

Elegran Sat 19-Jan-13 15:38:05

That's what it is, Stansgran cabin fever. All that excitement over the Christmas holidays for a couple of weeks, then back to auld claes and parritch and the same boring routine.

Stansgran Sat 19-Jan-13 15:33:55

It is only a forum and to be upset by a completely unknown person who scorns your opinion just because they post a lot is astonishing. If you have met them at one of the meetups and then they rubbish you then I think there is reason to be upset because that is not very civilised.I lurk frequently but when I post I tend to think enough and get on with life. Then I dont see any comments until my next lurk and I cant say I care if anyone agrees with me or not. For instance i don't know who David williams is or what he did and i assumed Jeni called someone JO Rose because they knew each other off air as it were. On the whole gransnet is quite funny and informative and people seem to respond courteously. Perhaps there is a bit of cabin fever about

Elegran Sat 19-Jan-13 15:21:17

There have been threads where newbies can introduce themselves, but they slip down the list if no-one joins for a bit, and not everyone reads them anyway. People could have said a bit about themselves on one thread, then post on another where they are not known.

kittylester Sat 19-Jan-13 15:20:08

Thank you grannyeggs smile

petallus Sat 19-Jan-13 15:19:22

In my opinion Kali made some very valid points.

I say this because there have been attempts to convince her that she is mistaken.

harrigran Sat 19-Jan-13 15:15:58

When newbies first post it is quite difficult to keep stock when they announce their arrival in the middle of a thread. It might be useful to have a dedicated thread where they can announce they are here.
I can never remember who I have greeted and who has slipped through the net, apologies to all those who have not been warmly greeted.
