DH is getting ready to go and see DS1 and go to a football match with him tonight. He will stay overnight and get to play with our grandsons then come home in time to take me to a concert tomorrow night. Nothing wrong with any of that but he is usually my sounding board but if I say anything he won't go.

I am so fed up with the pain from my lower back getting worse and not better. I am in a minority of one in thinking it is nothing to do with my spine but is something abdominal. If I stand up for even 15 minutes it hurts so badly and the only way to stop it is to lie down but I can't spend my life on the sofa! It sometimes even hurts just from sitting down. I don't think it is my spine as movement has no effect on it at all and I can lift heavy things without it making any difference. Being vertical is the only cause! There are no sharp pains, just acute lower back pain and what feels like period pain.

We have to drive for an hour to get to the concert tomorrow night and then I will have to get straight out of the car and into the hall and sit down immediately. I am not sure I will even be able to manage the journey there, let alone sit there all evening and then come home.

I don't want to moan to friends or family as I am such rotten company at the moment that I don't want to see anyone but I am no good at bottling things up so need to get it out somehow. Sorry to anyone who has read this far.

I have an appointment to see the doc again on Monday afternoon and the physio I know and will see privately is away until Monday so I don't think there is anything I can do but sit here feeling terrible.

Fortunately I don't have any chocolate, biscuits or anything else unhealthy in the house!

I doubt it is life threatenting and know that many of you have really terrible things to cope with but that just doesn't seem to be any consolation at the moment. So sorry, not usuually a whinger.

Worst pain is kidney stones on the move. They can do it very slowly but I don't know how long you've been in pain. And throw in the comment that your mother had cervical cancer and watch if the GP blinks and then rush to reassure you. GPs are only human and need us to be forthcoming and clear even in pain.

jeni Fri 25-Jan-13 15:55:16

Kidney stones usually give pains in the back at waist level.
I've never known ca cervix to present as back pain, I'd have expected other symptoms such as a discharge as well.
I presume you've had regular smears.
If you're that worried and that much pain, GO TO THE DOCTORS TODAY
How much louder do we have to shout?

Movedalot Fri 25-Jan-13 15:56:10

Thanks jeni! smile Probably would have got it if I was my usual self.

Didn't think much of my mother's lifestyle so not jealous. Yes, rather like DH and wouldn't trade him in for any other.

jeni Fri 25-Jan-13 15:58:28

As I thought! When you've got a good in, hang on to him, they're few and far between!

jeni Fri 25-Jan-13 15:59:03

That should be un, b iPad!

Movedalot Fri 25-Jan-13 16:17:48

Yes, we both think we are doing OK after nearly 45 years and are pretty content with our lot on the whole

JessM Fri 25-Jan-13 17:22:41

Yes quite movealot as jeni says - if you are really worried see your doctor.
Son (the chiro) says symptoms like yours could well be back related (if no other symptoms and doctor has eliminated gynae, urinary etc causes).

Ariadne Fri 25-Jan-13 17:27:25

Are you still on that sofa, Moved? If not, I shall send the GNs round to put you back there!

Look after yourself. xx

Nelliemoser Fri 25-Jan-13 17:33:32

movedalot Do you have an "out of hours or drop in service" anywhere near you? I don't think I would leave anything so unexplained and painful for that long.

Movedalot Fri 25-Jan-13 17:41:54

Still on the sofa, still too cowardly to do anything about it until Monday, still a wimp, still worried. Not in pain as been lying down all afternoon! Thinking of going to get myself some naughty hot chocolate.

I am glad that you are seeing the doc again on Monday and hope that your concert and the weekend go OK for you. It is very debilitating being in pain I know.

Let us hope that the doc will be able to help.

Movedalot Doesn't sound digestive which usually creates agonising spasms of pain. Worth considering gynaecological – just because it doesn't work any more doesn't mean it can't cause problems – or kidneys or gallstones, both of which I understand are pretty awful. My guess would be gallstones but I have absolutely no medical qualifications, just – if you'll pardon the expression – a gut feeling. In the days when my guts use to block completely, I found a hot water bottle helped hugely. Don't be tempted to mock such simple help – bowel adhesions are known to be one of the most excruciating pains anyone can suffer so if it helps those, it might help you. I do hope you feel better soon, the GP sorts you out and that you are well enough for the concert. If you're not, well, it's only one concert not the end of the world.

soop Fri 25-Jan-13 18:25:25

Movedalot...the sooner you get to see your GP, the better. Time to get rid of the pain! Warm hugs. x

Butty Fri 25-Jan-13 18:26:13

Move - Hope you have as comfortable weekend as possible.

Movedalot Fri 25-Jan-13 18:36:37

Thanks everyone.

Absent there is one thing I am sure of, it is not gallstones, they are in a little jar in a cupboard somewhere and have been for 32 years!

Oldgreymare Fri 25-Jan-13 19:20:20

Oh dear Moved nothing like the wimp I have been! blush
Back pain is awful. Can you identify when it started, that should give you a clue as to the cause.
I was a KS1 teacher so lots of bending across low tables caused my back probs. Thankfully, mostly a thing of the past since retirement.
Hope you get it sorted soon.

harrigran Fri 25-Jan-13 19:22:07

Move flowers for you, pain makes you feel wretched, get well soon.

absent Fri 25-Jan-13 19:34:08

An appendix in a little jar guarantees you can't have appendicitis again. Gallstones in a little jar doesn't mean you can't have them again – but I really do hope not.

Movedalot Fri 25-Jan-13 19:54:29

They took the gall bladder away as well! No appendix either but that is not hidden in a cupboard!

eGJ Fri 25-Jan-13 20:11:30

celebgran Fri 25-Jan-13 20:41:27

movedealot do hope you feel better soon and let us all know how doctor goes Monday flowers sounds horrid for you.

Bags Fri 25-Jan-13 21:31:56

Sorry about all the back pain, moved. I know how bad it can be. Take care and good luck on Monday at the doc's.

NfkDumpling Fri 25-Jan-13 21:44:19

Oh Move you have my sympathy. Have you had a fall? Could it be a cracked coccyx? If not, might it be a slipped disc?

A few years back I thought I had a pulled muscle in my posterior. Then I started to get mild sciatic pains. I mentioned it in passing to my doctor, who was also a friend, and he tested my heel for a reflex, there was none and he diagnosed a slipped disc. Within a few weeks I was suffering a lot of achy pain in my lower back which echoed around my stomach. I couldn't sit or stand for more than a few minutes at a time and I was walking with a stick as my left leg lost impetus. The only relief was laying flat. After a six months I could barely walk, was on large doses of pain killers and spent most of my time laying flat on my stomach on a put-you-up in the living room as I couldn't climb the stairs. I had a discectomy which fortunately worked and I'm fine now apart from a few numb patches on my leg. I'm so glad my doctor got me into the system early before too much nerve damage was done.

Get thee to a doctor!! Tomorrow!!

Movedalot Sat 26-Jan-13 12:49:23

Nfk interesting you should ask that, no, not for years but I did injure my coccyx when I was 19 and it was nothing like this! The more I think about it the more I am coming round to thinking it is a gynae thing. Just trying to work out the best way to convey that to my male doctor. It doesn't matter how good he is, he can't understand period pain.
