Good news. The ladies only classes have stopped at my leisure centre.

Myself and a few other men have complained to our local leisure centre about classes which only ladies can use.
Our argument was they were not providing men only classes and if the ladies wanted ladies only classes without equivalent men only classes the ladies which use these classes should pay extra as it is a council leisure centre for everybody to use.
They have done a survey and found that none of the ladies going to these classes were bothered about men being in them.
As far as I am concerned any ladies who want ladies only classes should go to private gyms.
The membership fees are a lot higher than the local leisure centre but that is their problem.

When was that Tegan? I had a flat in York Road in 1968

Tegan Fri 01-Feb-13 17:50:39

@ 1971. I'd just moved back from Cornwall.

Sutton COldfield he said once - got to be "one of the most expensive areas in Birmingham".
Hey, I drive along School Road quite often jeni!!

jeni Fri 01-Feb-13 19:40:03

Old house opposite the tennis courts.

gracesmum Fri 01-Feb-13 19:42:22

Can't place tennis courts. Will look harder next time.
No word from Frank, surely not still at Bums n Tums? Prhaps he's been abducted by gym women in leotards and taken home for their disgustinghealthy pleasure.

Well a new lady came into our class tonight and asked us if we had any respect for women and said we should leave.
I pointed out that all classes were now mixed.
One of the other men then said he had been coming to that class for 25 years and just told her to leave if she did not like it.
We told her where there was a ladies only gym so I think we have been more than reasonable.

What did she say to that, Frank?

HUNTERF Mon 04-Feb-13 20:34:59

She did not say anything and she just went to the other end of the room.
I understand the ladies only gym costs £55+ per month.

It's nice to see that old-fashioned courtesy flourishes at your gym HUNTERF and that a hearty welcome is extended to new members.

bluebell Tue 05-Feb-13 07:31:52

Well I just wish that GN was women only!

HUNTERF Tue 05-Feb-13 07:31:56

Hi Absent

I know there will be a lot of fuss if they try to stop ine men going to that class as one man has been coming for so long.
On average 4 men come to that class.
I can not see it being altered to accomodate 1 new member.

Hi Bluebell

Why not start your own web site?.

We had a lovely one once, bluebell, called popparob from Australia. He did a lot of looking after his GD and always wrote great posts. The kind of man I would have been very happy to be friends with if he lived near me. Or indeed meet up with for coffee if I had been visiting near him. He fitted into GN just fine. Not heard from him for ages sad

shysal Tue 05-Feb-13 08:26:00

I miss pompa too, a real gentleman, he wouldn't like the way some threads are going these days. It takes all sorts though! hmm

Galen Tue 05-Feb-13 08:28:40

What did happen to him?

JessM Tue 05-Feb-13 08:35:50

he is still a member but not heard from him for ages have we, (*popparob*)
If there were a few more like him it would be fine and they could explain to the likes of Frank why they fail to establish a rapport with other members maybe. Sorry Frank but if rapport with women is what you seek in being a member here, you need to go and get some quality advice somewhere. But maybe rapport is not your aim. I am confused.

bluebell Tue 05-Feb-13 08:41:27

I know there are lovely men but re this particular thread, there are wonmen who for a variety of reasons have issues with their body image and I wish HunterF would at least engage with the seriousness of that debate and the case for women only sessions and not be so trimphalist and frankly unkind. The first time I came across him on GN, I thought he was a wind-up merchant and maybe not even a man or an alter ego for another GNer(?). I'm still not sure...I keep meaning not to be provoked by him but then can't let some of his comments go unchallenged

Marelli Tue 05-Feb-13 08:46:44

And perhaps that's his raison d'etre, bluebell hmm

absent Tue 05-Feb-13 08:48:46

HUNTERF What do you think about pubic lavatories? Should they be unisex?

bluebell Tue 05-Feb-13 08:53:37

Trying to devise a strategy.....but actually HunterF it's a waste of my not inconsiderable intellectual abilities to waste them on dealing with you. Will this post get deleted?

absent Tue 05-Feb-13 08:57:35

What about the fact the NHS is at last abandoning mixed sex wards? Should there be a campaign to restore them?

Smoluski Tue 05-Feb-13 09:05:05

absent now that is really a worrying thought, frank and his cronies being in charge of loo roll and wether they have had their pennies worth grin

bluebell Tue 05-Feb-13 09:05:07

Oh absent, you've forced me back again!!!!Let's see what happens now...
