Good news. The ladies only classes have stopped at my leisure centre.

Myself and a few other men have complained to our local leisure centre about classes which only ladies can use.
Our argument was they were not providing men only classes and if the ladies wanted ladies only classes without equivalent men only classes the ladies which use these classes should pay extra as it is a council leisure centre for everybody to use.
They have done a survey and found that none of the ladies going to these classes were bothered about men being in them.
As far as I am concerned any ladies who want ladies only classes should go to private gyms.
The membership fees are a lot higher than the local leisure centre but that is their problem.

then Absent just might need to get a little bit of emoioinal intelligence?

GRANSNET!! Another deletion!

j07 Tue 29-Jan-13 13:31:25

emotional

I think that's quite offensive in itself Orca - absent has apologised, can we not let it go without demanding ongoing sackcloth and ashes?

gracesmum Tue 29-Jan-13 13:36:34

As was that j07 - was it really necessary?

Orca Tue 29-Jan-13 13:36:42

But we are still free to comment on women only or mixed exercise classes?

HildaW Tue 29-Jan-13 13:38:22

As one who is a fully paid up member of the 'Foot in Mouth' club I say a little tolerance goes a long way.

Orca Tue 29-Jan-13 13:39:59

I think that is very rude of you gracesmum I was not demanding sackcloth and ashes. I was trying to understand why we have to leave this thread. It has now become clear that we only have to leave that aspect of it alone. Give us time to understand the rules please before you jump on us.

gracesmum Tue 29-Jan-13 13:40:42

Who are you asking orca? I thought that was what the thread was about. hmm

Orca Tue 29-Jan-13 13:45:10

I agree HildaW

gracesmum Tue 29-Jan-13 13:52:57

I apologise if you found my comment rude, Orca but your words:

"I find it very odd that the person whose offensive comment was deleted should have the gall to tell us that in her opinion we should leave the subject now"
was in my opinion an entirley judgemental turn of phrase and not designed to be tolerant or to add anything to the discussion . Nobody said anything about leaving the thread and I am sorry if this was unclear. There are no "rules" and I certainly took it that absent meant we should not go on and on about it at the expense of reasoned discussion.
Yet again, a thread seems to have veered away from the OP however controversial it might have been and been reduced to sniping and ill-humour. [ssad]

gracesmum Tue 29-Jan-13 14:45:26

Having changed what I wrote from "your"comment" to "your words" I did of course mean were blush stand in the pedants' naughty corner I then meant to say sad and not ssss-ad, that could be down to lack of sleep as DH and I were awake from 3 onwards while I tried to deal with his temperature spikes!

Orca Tue 29-Jan-13 15:23:32

I accept your apology gracesmum. I hope we haven't got off on the wrong foot. I think we both misunderstood the situation so I will apologise too. I don't think I was sniping however. I just stated what I thought in a straightforward manner. I think sniping is something different, but then again you may not have been talking about me and my post.

JessM Tue 29-Jan-13 15:26:07

Apologies are good. As is tolerance and forgiveness and the grace to accept apologies.

j07 Tue 29-Jan-13 15:32:45

Can anybody still follow this? confused

Orca Tue 29-Jan-13 15:53:05

I think it's going to be very hard not to offend people when all we have to go by is the written word. I expect JessM meant to sound kind, and perhaps placatory or philosophical, and not patronising. Now where are those emoticons and how do they work? smile

Movedalot Tue 29-Jan-13 16:07:59

I think this disagreement is going a lot better than some we have had. I don't think Jess was being patronising and I think we should take these things at face value and not read anything into them. However, I'm a simple soul. grin

An observation - said very tongue in cheek
Once this conversation went 'down hill' so to say there has been little sight of our original gentleman poster. Wonder if he might now see the wisdom of certain female only environments? grin

Elegran Tue 29-Jan-13 17:01:42

Orca The emoticons are down at the bottom of the page, below the box in which you write a new post. They are very useful!

Hi HildaW

I can see that women as you like to be called may like a female only environment.
All I am saying any facility paid for or subserdised by the council tax payers should be open to all as men and women are council tax payers.
For this reason I am pleased that the ladies classes have been stopped.
As I have said before if women want women only facilities they should finance them themselves.
My daughters will not go into a ladies only class and some of the women who come to my class have said that it was a pity that one man was available to attend at the time it was ladies only but could not.
One of the women said that she attends 4 classes a week and 3 of them are mixed so what difference does it make to her if all of them are mixed.
Incedently they did have a girls night out just before Christmas which was just a meal and a disco after.
They put a sign on the table saying girls night out plus Frank and the names of the other 4 men.
Three of the other men have their wives in the keep fit groups and at the Girls night out. The fourth one does a keep fit walk mainly at the time her husband is in the keep fit class but she came to the meal.

I rather like the term lady , but that is me . Guess we are not all the same .

Stansgran Tue 29-Jan-13 17:59:04

I belonged to a ladies only gym(not women) but the owners partner used to pop in to do weights and would just change the music to heavy thumping beat. I was the only person in and paying customer to boot. I complained and he wasn't happy. They lost another paying customer that month and they eventually closed down as a large banana tunes opened

Stansgran Tue 29-Jan-13 17:59:35

Bannatynes

Nonu Tue 29-Jan-13 18:02:33

What is Bannatynes ?

Ella46 Tue 29-Jan-13 18:12:22

I quite like the idea of a large banana tunes grin
