At the risk of having this deleted i'm going to ask why some posts that are by implication patronising and insulting are allowed to stay in, while others are judged to have infringed guide lines and are summarily deleted. Level playing field it ain't!

See what I mean!? On another thread, I'm apparently now the same person as absent! #flattered... in a way wink

Elegran Sun 03-Feb-13 13:38:51

Yes, she apologised, so I apologise to you in turn, JO .

I was getting a bit fed-up with all the carping that is going on at the moment. The threads fill up all the "last hour" spaces until it seems that there is nothing else but agonising going on.

Instead of joining them, we should be starting lots of discussions that will be interesting and go somewhere, not round and round in spirals, to vanish up themselves.

Bags Sun 03-Feb-13 13:39:05

Because it shows what a complex character I am.

Right, I'm baggying off now to sew up a snow dog.

I must admit I do say things on here that I wouldn't say in real life. Maybe a lot of people use forums like that. To let off steam in a way you can't in real life. Not good obviously.

And then there's the fact that no one could possibly like everyone else on a large forum. Perhaps the answer is to remember it is just a forum.

absent Sun 03-Feb-13 13:42:41

nanapug Sun 03-Feb-13 13:47:41

I have no problem with asking the question "Bags", even though it is no one else's business, it was the "WTF" accompanying it, which you seem to have overlooked. Again, it is not what has been said but the way it is said. Any one can ask me any thing politely, but I will not tolerate rudeness aimed at me, from any one. I must say I wasn't aware of the Scout Association having that attitude, even though I too am involved in it. Surely a caring group of people should try to resolve issues rather than say "if you don't like it get out". Perhaps I need to look in to it more....

j07 Sun 03-Feb-13 13:48:50

OK! Bloody kindle fires and i pads!

janthea Sun 03-Feb-13 13:53:43

I enjoy coming onto the forums. If I hated anything about it or felt that people were horrid, then I wouldn't bother logging on to it. After all no one holds a gun to our heads to sign in.

I do think some people are super sensitive about things that are written. If I made a statement and was deluged with nasty comments, then I wouldn't look at that thread again. People seem to keep the threads separate and may be having a 'ding dong' on one thread and chatting on another.

Things said can be misconstrued when written, because you can't seem people's faces or expressions.

j07 Sun 03-Feb-13 14:01:51

I'm glad to say I've got a short memory and never remember who I said what to on other threads! grin

Notsogrand Sun 03-Feb-13 14:05:13

'What the fuck' is rude and offensive, even if it's in initials. I cannot think of any way in which those words can be wrongly interpreted or regarded in an overly sensitive way.

kittylester Sun 03-Feb-13 14:06:59

I agree Notso and swearing seems to be coming more prevalent on here which some people could find really offensive.

HildaW Sun 03-Feb-13 14:07:03

Kali, just answering your question. Unimaginative simply means lacking in imagination. whats wrong with that? Being banal is also hardly a crime. The term 'simple soul' does, in some minds, have mental health issues but its usually used to show empathy with someone rather than being unpleasant.
As my mother once said 'I've been called a lot worse'. This is an open message board and some folks are blunt, some tactfull, some, like me, suffer from 'foot in mouth'. I think few folks in here are really deliberatly unpleasant, just a bit tactless or like to stir a bit.
Heels teef, the world would be a dull dull place if we all had texactly the same views on everything!

jeni Sun 03-Feb-13 14:12:44

Who I Heel and what are teef?

Movedalot Sun 03-Feb-13 14:18:12

Hilda I think it is those 'few' who are the problem.

absent Sun 03-Feb-13 14:20:52

I,ve sewn up the body. Legs, etc to go and still some knitting. Getting there....

nanapug, there's a very recent and very interesting thread about WTF and similar things used harmlessly. Sorry I can't remember what it,s called. I'll let you know if I come across it again soon. Of course, the harmlessness or otherwise will be subjective, like most things (as is argued in the thread).

I overlooked jing's use of WTF above because I regarded it as unimportant (even though I don't use that expression myself either as an acronym or otherwise). I regarded it as unimportant because I really don't think jings meant to be rude. As I said, I think it was just a natural outburst. People often use the expression in a humorous and harmless way nowadays.

I used to think I lived a very sheltered life, but I'm beginning to wonder now, since so many things that phase other people don,t bother me in the least, even if it's not what I would do.

Tolerance, anyone?

absent Sun 03-Feb-13 14:28:10

annodomini Sun 03-Feb-13 14:28:16

Admittedly a few people are outspoken but I don't believe that they set out to offend or hurt anyone's feelings.
