Odd little habits anyone?

I think I've recently developed an odd little habit.

I like to suck a Locket (cough sweet) last thing at night, just before I put the light out and go to sleep.

If I wake up in the night, I have another one.

I find it very comforting, especially when I get to that bit where the hard outer shell collapses and the liquid centre leaks out.

It just occurred to me that it's a bit odd that it has to be a Locket (even though I don't have a sore throat).

You've got me worried now, because I popped a strepsil into my mouth one night when I had a sore throat and, being half asleep it [being sweet shaped and solid] all but slipped down my throat. So, just be careful [sorry; nag nag]. It really scared me.

Thanks for the warning Tegan

I'm usually sitting up reading Kindle or on my side if I'm lying down. I bet you sleep on your back.

Don't you worry about the sugar and your teeth if it's every night?

Ana Tue 05-Feb-13 20:47:12

I keep a small bar of Galaxy on my bedside table. If I wake in the night I usually have a little piece. I do worry about my teeth, though...confused

I have a couple of sips of water from a half litre bottle that I always keep by the bedside. I keep seven of them actually. They get washed and refilled.

I suppose it is a rather odd habit. It started when I was in Thailand and all drinking water was bottled. And then, when our water in Argyll kept getting cut off, I increased the number of bottles. Now the seven of them sit in a neat row and are used in rotation.

Yes, I do worry about my teeth. I give them a good clean, get into bed and ..... suck a sweet, all the while thinking 'this isn't doing my teeth any good'. I try to keep the sweet in the middle of my mouth away from my teeth.

I sound even odder now.

No - I'm the same, petallus! grin

I have a third litre bottle of water full ready for when I go to sleep, and it is usually empty when I fully wake up. I sip it throughout the night. I like to have it and I know it's ok. No problem.

Water is perfectly normal. I have a glass on my bedside table as well as the Galaxy. DH on the other hand has to have the makings of three cups of coffee (instant) plus a kettle by his bedside. Now that, to me, is odd!

I have a red metal bottle of water that goes to bed with me. I HAVE to have it and sip from it during the night. It even goes on holiday with me.

I have to confess to being a bedtime sucker too. In my case it's a Fisherman's Friend - the original strong ones - and I have another on my bedside table in case I need one in the night!

The only thing I suck at night is my thumb!! Sixty four and still doing it, can't sleep without it. I blame my Mother as she used to nag me so much about it. My OH just laughs. Do feel a bit of a plonker when in hospital though.....

whenim64 Tue 05-Feb-13 21:30:26

Tall glass of water for me. It's usually empty in the morning but I rarely remember drinking it!

Granny23 Tue 05-Feb-13 21:39:09

DH has a cough sweet to suck as he goes to sleep too - always makes him cough. Is that what they are supposed to do? No worries about ruining his teeth as they are safely in a glass of steredent, smiling at me all night. grin

My habit as I go to bed is to get my 10x magnification mirror and check to see if that bristle has appeared again, I cant get into bed until I have looked grin

Butty Tue 05-Feb-13 22:10:15

glassortwo Tue 05-Feb-13 22:36:46

gillybob Tue 05-Feb-13 22:47:12

Lemonade. I simply have to know that there is a glass of lemonade on my bedside cabinet before I can relax and go to sleep. I very rarely touch it but I need to know it is there. My DH keeps threatening to pour the untouched glasses back into the bottle for the next night !

glassortwo Tue 05-Feb-13 22:48:44

Oh it would be flat when you went for a drink.

gillybob Tue 05-Feb-13 23:01:09

That's the stupidity of it glass I very rarely drink it. I just need to know its there. hmm

glassortwo Tue 05-Feb-13 23:08:02

Thats the difference I know there is a bristle there and I am going to get it grin

Hunt Tue 05-Feb-13 23:09:50

I used to keep a glass of water by my bed in case I needed a drink in the night. One night I picked the glass up in a bit of a daze. drifted off to sleep before I got it to my mouth and poured it all over my face. That really did wake me up. Now I have a bottle with one of those drinking tops. At least if I fall asleep again I won't drown myself.
