Odd little habits anyone?

Isn't gum disease more often the problem with oldies' teeth than caries? I should have thought the sugar from one sweetie would soon dissolve and be swallowed. Now starch is a different matter…

When I was small if we were lucky enough to have a joint of meat for Sunday it would be cooked on the Saturday so there would be dripping for a sandwich, but if my Mum didnt hide the joint when my father came home from the pub he would eat it ......so it was usually hidden under the bed

why not to re-use plastic bottles

Yes, I can see that hiding certain foods makes sense if you share your house with a couple of gannets! DH and I tend to like different things so it's never been an issue.

Not during the war, after the war when we had rationing (the butter).

Well the rational reason is so that huge DGS and DH won't eat everything before I get a chance.

All my storage boxes get appropriated by DGS when he is packing up his lunch for a day at work. Even writing 'Grandma' on them doesn't stop it. So I hide them.

But apart from that, don't you think it's kind of cosy to have secret food in pretty little containers hiding away that only you know about? Biscuits, chocolate, expensive tomatoes and apples, other little treats?

My mother used to do it with butter (during the war), chocolate wholemeal biscuits and tins of condensed milk.

I'm trying to think if I have any daytime odd habits.

I do hide secret stores of food and lunch boxes about the house, if that will do.

I'll have to ask DH but I suspect he will say that everything about me is odd

I don't have any bedtime habits apart from reading myself to sleep. I feel left out

What's this about plastic bottles? I have a thrifty friend who is still using the same one after more than a year.

I never drink juice during the day but cannot go to bed without a glass by the side of my bed,I sometime's can't remember drinking it but most morning it has all gone.

I decided to ignore that advice too, shysal. I've never heard of a reason why it was given and until I do, it's on my bullshit list. Even with a reason, if the reason is daft, it will stay on said list. My reasoning is that if a plastic bottle is safe for 'food use' (storing drinking water) then it'll be safe for lo..o..o..ng time.

After an op. when I was taking painkillers during the night, I used to keep a glass of water beside the bed, but my cats would drink it, so I would have to get up to rinse and refill the glass. I changed to a sports bottle but was unable to swallow the tablets when using it. I don't need it at night any more but have a few around the house which I sip as I pass, as I know I don't drink enough.
Am I right in thinking there is some nonsense about not refilling plastic mineral water bottles bags? All I can remember is that I decided to ignore the advice!

I used to keep a glass of water by my bed in case I needed a drink in the night. One night I picked the glass up in a bit of a daze. drifted off to sleep before I got it to my mouth and poured it all over my face. That really did wake me up. Now I have a bottle with one of those drinking tops. At least if I fall asleep again I won't drown myself.

That's the stupidity of it glass I very rarely drink it. I just need to know its there.
