FREEVIEW TV. HOW MANY OF YOU CAN RECIEVE IT?

I have added to debates on threads after watching a lot of media coverage from the likes of Aljazeera and R.T Today(which can be a little anti UK and America, at times). They give good current news and views unlike our news stations, even those that are on 24 hours a day such as the BBC and SKY. Also the ability to watch Parliament live and the 'going on' at Select Committees can be very interesting.

There have been times I have mentioned them and I am gaining an opinion not many GN's watch Freeview, their choice ofcourse, or simply do not have Freeview in their area. Have you Freeview in your part of the UK, or ofcourse abroad. Just interested, nothing more.

I can receive Freeview, and do watch it, although less frequently than the main channels. I did have to have a new aerial when I first got a digital box. I live in Oxfordshire.

I have Freeview and Sky. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time to watch all the available channels. Probably only about a couple of hours an evening.

We have Freeview, won't have Sky though or any others that mean paying for them!

Lilygran Wed 06-Feb-13 11:48:24

All our family members, scattered around the UK, can get Freeview. I believe there's a problem in very hilly areas.

Sky news is free on freeview channel 81, some may vary with channel number!

Our Freeview signal is rubbish despite investing in the best digital aerial. I blame living close to the sea and the wind ! confused

We have Freeview but no Sky, won't pay for anything . Don't really watch too much anyway.

I have had freeview for the last 4 years and I wouldn't be without unless we couldn't receive it. I certainly do not want to pay for my TV apart from the licence. Our box records and can pause live TV. Still it feels fairly much the same as analogue BUT occassionally the weather seems to effect the signal and then it can be unwatchable - usually something I very much want to see. I'm generally happy with it and like the extra channels - I don't think I'd want anymore. I watch too much TV already.

We can't get many Freeview Channels without Sky.

POGs I agree about how interesting some free view channels are - I enjoyed BBC Parliament yesterday for example. I also watch BBC4 - how else could I get all that Nordic Noir and my husband watches some music programmes but can't remember if BBC 3 or 4. Also use freeview to listen to the radio in my study and record from it. Today for example because I am still ill in bed I watched the daily politics and recorded Clare in the Community to listen to later. I think its a great facility! Oh yes and Film4 occasionally

We have freeview and live on the side of the Malvern hills but we do have a very high arieal

Galen Wed 06-Feb-13 13:01:26

How's the back? When's you MRI?

Movedalot Wed 06-Feb-13 13:06:54

Thanks for asking Galen. Back is the same but since I started sleeeping with a pillow between my knees the pain down my leg has eased a bit so I suppose it must be helping the back. I have an x-ray on 11th and then will see if doc thinks an MRI would be a good idea. If a long wait will probably pay as not enjoying my life much at the moment sad

Galen Wed 06-Feb-13 13:11:36

I think it's worth paying if only because if it reveals anything you're nearer on the route to have it sorted!

We have freebies and sky. We mostly watch BBC1, 2 and the news channel but have to have sky for the football! We listen to jazz on freeview sometimes too. One thing that annoys me about digital radio is that we are unable to listen to commentary of the local football on anything other than the really old, tatty, grey plastic. non-digital one.

gillybob Wed 06-Feb-13 13:32:41

Yes there are some excellent music programs on BBC 4 (or is it 3?) Bluebell. We have recently watched some classic concerts from Queen, The Beach Boys, James Taylor etc.

janthea Wed 06-Feb-13 13:57:06

Oh dear. You all watch such worthy programmes. I'm addicted to Universal, FOX, Syfy, Sky 1, Living, Watch, Alibi channels - none of which you get on Freeview. hmm

HUNTERF Wed 06-Feb-13 13:57:47

I had problems with some freeview channels when I lived in London.
My signal has been very good around Birmingham.
I now have Talk Talk television just to allow me to look at programmes which were on when I was out.
This does not cost much as my phone is on Talk Talk.
If I want to watch a special football match which is not free to watch I walk down to my local pub and buy a pint or 2.

We have Freeview as we are now Digital in Norfolk , as is most of the country.
Unfortunately we lost Look East/Anglia news and now get East Midlands. Which is not helpful. Don't have Sky but really enjoy programmes on BBC4, such as Borgen and The Killing amongst others.
Sky News is on Freeview.

Greatnan Wed 06-Feb-13 14:57:35

I have a Humax Freesat Box and my own dish on the roof - no subscription but it cost me about £600 as nobody else in the flats want UK TV! I get all the normal terrestial channels and lots more beside. Too many - I record one programme whilst watching another, or when I am out walking, then I am watching until 3 a.m. I do surf while I am watching.

FlicketyB Wed 06-Feb-13 16:14:20

We have Freeview, which works even though mobile phones struggle with reception in our area.

We havent bothered with anything further, we do not watch much. Most of what is on doesnt interest us and having seen Sky channels at our children's homes cannot see that extra choice would change that.

I have a digital radio but have yet to find anything station worth listening to that I cannot access on an ordinary radio - and reception on digital is very poor.

annodomini Wed 06-Feb-13 16:23:19

Mine works well but have had Virgin for a long time only for free-to-view programmes, I think I should cut my losses there!
