Next time I decide to have apple pie and phillie cheese for lunch, I need to remember that an eighth, and not a quarter, of the pie is enough.

bags your eyes know better than you that an eighth of pie is not a meal!

OGM Yes! All suet-based puds are the tops. Jam roly-poly, treacle topped dumplings, spotted dick...served with real thick, yellow custard. grin

MargaretX, you're right! It must have been the phillie that was philling.

My nana made the best steamed banana sponge I have ever tasted I try and try to get mine to the same consistancy but no chance the same with the rice pudding I can never get the skin right on the top sort of half burnt and not (if you see what I mean)grin
soop I can let you know the glamma household are now having thick yellow custard with blackcurrant tart for pudds tonight after reading your post, was with ice cream but I can taste the custard.smile

I love things savoury but OH on a cold evening - or rather in the evening after a cold afternoon walk - there's nothing so good as a little something sweet.

And I'm the one who mostly opts for a starter and no pud. This is so unlike my lovely SiL, who loves her puds and won't look at the WHOLE menu until she's found THE pudding.

I always have my naughty something sweet after a healthy main course, of course! glowing halo emoticon.

Mea culpa mea culpa mea maxima culpa! I succumbedblush
I just had to have that golden syrup sponge, well it would have been out of date after tomorrow and waste not want not, or do I mean waist not?

gracesmum Sun 10-Feb-13 21:14:35

And you did want it!

My eyes are often bigger than my belly. I like a meal with lots of different tastes but I think I am being increasingly defeated by the massive portion sizes we seem to be served when out for a meal nowadays.

I don't often have room for a nice sponge pudding any more I used to though.

Portion control needed in my house as well.

Unfortunately, as I'm gluten intolerant, I can't eat sponge puddings so I have to have things with loads of cream and, usually, meringue! We were all invited to DD3's for lunch yesterday but, as she was doing apple and rhubarb crumble, I had to make, and take, a lemon roulade!

Stansgran Mon 11-Feb-13 17:14:40

That is the best excuse for a lemon roulade that I have ever heard

kittylester Mon 11-Feb-13 17:21:01

And I'm sticking to it!! grin

If you google gluten free sponge there are recipes and also tesco have one.

Don't spoil it for me Galen grin

Actually, I make an almond and orange cake, that Absent posted, quite often - it is delicious. cupcake
