I have only been on a week more or less, have dicovered the local gransnet site which shows countys plus certain towns.citys.
Which is ideal for those wanting to arrange local meets and discuss locally.
I have placed in Oxfrdshire , Oxford , Northampton pages in both meet ups and discussions in those areas.
Its worth considering for local, noted west mids has a large area which is broken down.

HAd lovely long walk today with friendship club took Rosie was great about hour and half across farmland to end up on beach followed by tasty lunch ! Are you too far away from Frinton sunflower?

Thanks Cari sunshine

Hi Kitty - unfortunately if you "like" a page then you can only do so under the name you have signed up to facebook under. If it's different to your username on here then no one will link the two of course - but to use a pseudonym you would need to set up a separate facebook account under that name and interact using that identity. Annoying - but out of our control sad

Can someone explaint to me how to keep my GN Facebook separate from my 'real' Facebook. Will I need another identity? confused

I would love to have an area where you can meet up with other like minded people for a local walk.

They did have a walking forum on Woman & Home, but not much happens in my area - North Suffolk.

Nice to see that our work is already being appreciated wink

celebgran, some info about what's entailed is here www.gransnet.com/info/local-organisers

It's a question of getting listings up on the site (and encouraging businesses and organisations to post their own once we're up and running) and offering a service to gransnetter-type people <studiously avoids any mention of age> in the area.

Any local ad revenue you can get, you keep.

Could potentially be an incredibly useful service and we hope, will encourage more people to get involved and meet up, including some of those who are not currently online.

The local eds we have so far are doing a really fantastic job flowersflowersflowers

NanaAnna The sites look really good and must have taken a lot of hard work. I think they will be useful, not only for people living in the areas, but for people who want to visit or go on holiday as we will be able to have a look to find out all the best places to go. Brilliant.

janthea Sat 16-Feb-13 06:28:05

nannaAnna. I think the Brighton and Hove site is brilliant. Congratulations. Well done for all your hard work.

I'm the editor for both local.gransnet.com/brighton-hove and local.gransnet.com/worthing.

I've also got the Facebook and Twitter sites up and running (will add links on a secondary post because I don't want to lose this with excessive copying and pasting) hmm

Us editors have been beavering away for countless hours getting listings in place and it can be very very time-consuming. Do bear with us, because it will involve an awful lot of work to get the sites looking well-established. Hopefully businesses and organisations will start to add their own listings in time, which will help.
I think the fun will start when the 'local' bit is unleashed as we will be organising meet-ups and such-like, as well as having our local forums to police censor ummm .... (insert appropriate word once experience has delivered it) grin
Most of all, do support your nearest/local-ish forum so that they really take off smile

What does oversee involve Geraldine ? To be honest not sure many grans this part world on here!

GeraldineGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 15-Feb-13 14:57:51

Sorry, Elegran, they haven't gone live yet. I've only managed to have a play on the development site.

They should go live next week <eternally optimistic>

celebgran if you can think of anyone who might like to oversee an Essex coast site, nudge them in our direction: [email protected]

Elegran Fri 15-Feb-13 11:06:31

Are you sure the forums are ready, Geraldine ? I can't add anything to the Edinburgh, Chester or Brighton ones. I've not tried all of the sites yet, maybe they are all working except those.

celebgran Fri 15-Feb-13 09:23:40

Hope Essex coast is included!

GeraldineGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 15-Feb-13 09:21:42

Elegran is right. We are planning local sites all across the country eventually but going slowly because we want the right people to edit them.

There will be a tab on the main nav bar (blue strip at the top of pages) that will take you through to the local home page from (I hope) next week. We have been waiting for Tech to get the local forums working properly because there's not much point if people can't talk to each other - but that has now been done. I played with them yesterday and they seem to be working sunshine.

Anyone can upload anything onto their own local site. And if anyone does fancy becoming an editor, the details are here www.gransnet.com/info/local-organisers or email us at [email protected].

Lara is Queen of Local - she's away this week but the rest of us should be able to help out.

Grummy Thu 14-Feb-13 17:42:04

Doesn't seem to be anything on the Bucks site yet either

LullyDully Wed 13-Feb-13 13:49:26

Anything in Fareham or Portsmouth?

janthea Wed 13-Feb-13 13:48:37

Wow! Having just checked my Facebook, there are loads of things going on with the Kingston upon Thames Gransnet. Must have just been added!

janthea Wed 13-Feb-13 13:41:47

The Brighton & Hove one has a lot going on. The Kingston one very little at the moment.

glammanana Wed 13-Feb-13 12:37:07

My local Gransnet is Chester and it looks as though someone has put a lot of work into the site so well done, there are a couple of topic's not yet activated but hey-ho it's well on the way.

12Michael Wed 13-Feb-13 12:28:11
