I have only been on a week more or less, have dicovered the local gransnet site which shows countys plus certain towns.citys.
Which is ideal for those wanting to arrange local meets and discuss locally.
I have placed in Oxfrdshire , Oxford , Northampton pages in both meet ups and discussions in those areas.
Its worth considering for local, noted west mids has a large area which is broken down.

I know of the Brighton and Hove and Kingston upon Thames ones and follow them on Facebook.

Movedalot Wed 13-Feb-13 10:55:06

No, where should I look?

celebgran Wed 13-Feb-13 11:07:27

Don't think Essex covered! Not heard any grans near me.

Ana Wed 13-Feb-13 11:11:27

How do we find out about them? confused

dustyangel Wed 13-Feb-13 11:12:59

Are you looking on the Gransnet Local list in the Forums section? It doesn't help me as I'm mostly in Portugal!

Elegran Wed 13-Feb-13 11:17:27

You look here.

There are only 8 or so local sites with their own editors at the moment. Off the top of my head they are Brighton, Worthing, Kingston upon Thames, Chester, Blackpool, Hexham, Edinburgh, ....ummmm.... Royston? Where is that?

GNHQ keep an eye on the other ones.

The big launch is said to be soon #notholdingbreath

Elegran Wed 13-Feb-13 11:19:54

Gosh, I did not know there was a list on the forums main page.

Just remembered that Worthing has a resident minder too.

Movedalot Wed 13-Feb-13 11:25:27

Found ours but there is nothing in it yet.

whenim64 Wed 13-Feb-13 11:27:03

Just been for a look round a couple of local ones and posted details of our local meet-up in Manchester this week. Some seem to be more developed than others.

Elegran Wed 13-Feb-13 11:32:31

Does yours have a forum? We wuzz promised a local forum!

whenim64 Wed 13-Feb-13 11:34:20

Yes, you can start a discussion like on here. Don't know if anyone will see it hmm

Mishap Wed 13-Feb-13 11:41:25

Mine is empty!!

Elegran Wed 13-Feb-13 11:42:24

I don't think they have added forums everywhere. Edinburgh does not have one.

Elegran Wed 13-Feb-13 11:44:42

Yes it does. I did not see the picture.

Ana Wed 13-Feb-13 11:49:10

Most of them seem to be empty. I'm not really sure what's going on - does every area need a local organiser or what? And it seems as though you have to have a different user name to post on the local sites...

Elegran Wed 13-Feb-13 11:57:41

I think you can have a different user name if you want to, or use the same one. You need a user name to add a listing or take out an advertisement.

It seems to me that GNHQ were expecting a mad rush to man the local sites, so planned to cover the country with them. They are now starting with just a few complete ones, with the others in place but unmanned until they appoint editors for them.

People can still add listings and ads, and presumably post to the forums, but the unmanned local sites will be monitored by GNHW in the moments they can spare from their other work, and will not have anyone sending out newsletters and arranging regular meetings, as the local editors are to do.

That is my understanding, anyway. I assume all will gradually be revealed.

Mishap Wed 13-Feb-13 12:04:14

I wait with bated breath!!

12Michael Wed 13-Feb-13 12:28:11

I have posted both in Oxfordshire, and Oxford subject a social meet up in Banbury.
And have also posted in discussion area of Northampton.
In both cases its doing a local ET , checking to see if anyone from those areas mentioned is out there?

janthea Wed 13-Feb-13 13:41:47

The Brighton & Hove one has a lot going on. The Kingston one very little at the moment.

janthea Wed 13-Feb-13 13:48:37

Wow! Having just checked my Facebook, there are loads of things going on with the Kingston upon Thames Gransnet. Must have just been added!

LullyDully Wed 13-Feb-13 13:49:26

Grummy Thu 14-Feb-13 17:42:04

Elegran is right. We are planning local sites all across the country eventually but going slowly because we want the right people to edit them.

There will be a tab on the main nav bar (blue strip at the top of pages) that will take you through to the local home page from (I hope) next week. We have been waiting for Tech to get the local forums working properly because there's not much point if people can't talk to each other - but that has now been done. I played with them yesterday and they seem to be working sunshine.

Anyone can upload anything onto their own local site. And if anyone does fancy becoming an editor, the details are here www.gransnet.com/info/local-organisers or email us at [email protected].

Lara is Queen of Local - she's away this week but the rest of us should be able to help out.
