j08 Wed 20-Feb-13 19:54:51

Mine's the usual one. confused

Galen Wed 20-Feb-13 19:56:38

Not on mine!

Anne58 Wed 20-Feb-13 20:00:03

If you go into Google (other search engines are available) and put Gransnet, there seem to be 2 options, however both lead to here!

I am wondering if the AgeUk thing might put some people off, but could be wrong. At 54 I think I could well feel that I wasn't quite ready for AgeUK!

Ana Wed 20-Feb-13 20:02:35

Wot you on about, Galen? Stop of the page?
I haven't got Age UK on my header...confused

Galen Wed 20-Feb-13 20:04:10

Not happy!angry

Anne58 Wed 20-Feb-13 20:05:22

Ana log out, go to Google and put in Gransnet, see what happens.

j08 Wed 20-Feb-13 20:07:13

Oh yes. Galen click on campaigns in the green bar along the top, and then click on the Gransnet banner on the page that it takes you to. That brings you back to the normal one.

j08 Wed 20-Feb-13 20:08:52

You can actually still get to your pm' s from the age UK version.

j08 Wed 20-Feb-13 20:09:57

You two must have been fiddling about. hmm

j08 Wed 20-Feb-13 20:12:46

Oh no! I'm stuck in it now!

j08 Wed 20-Feb-13 20:13:23

We might have to call out Geraldine!

Anne58 Wed 20-Feb-13 20:21:59

No need jO8 just log out, go to Google etc.

Galen Wed 20-Feb-13 20:22:40

I'd already worked that out jing, but as soon as you click on forums you're back to age uk!
It makes it tedious as our age to this way round!

If you click on this one

You get the normal header.

Ana Wed 20-Feb-13 21:31:54

Why do/does any of us go onto Google to log in? I've got Gransnet Active Pages on my favourites bar.

JessM Wed 20-Feb-13 21:35:27

oo-er. Looks like a takeover. But who has takenover who? I think an explanation would be good.

Elegran Wed 20-Feb-13 21:47:05

I think there has always been some connection between age Uk and Gransnet.

JessM Wed 20-Feb-13 21:58:23

I think Ageuk is still associated with "Help the Aged" in people's minds. It merged with Age Concern, a few years ago to form AgeUK. To be honest I don't see myself as part of the AgeUK target age group. In my mind it is a charity aimed at doing kind things for housebound 80-90 year olds. I know I am not alone - I was talking to someone about my age (early 60s) the other day about wanting to learn a few more computer skills. I said that AgeUK locally run courses and she made a face and said there was no way she saw herself going there.
is this just agism in our minds maybe? Or is it the profile of the charity?
And what next? A strategic alliance with The People's Friend maybe?

janeainsworth Wed 20-Feb-13 22:08:28

Jess I agree that doing kind things for people much older than us is the image of AgeUK, but it's far from the reality. It's a campaigning organisation, and they also have a research branch, which came about when the smaller charity Research into Ageing was taken over by Age Concern as it then was
www.ageuk.org.uk/professional-resources-home/research/research-into-ageing/
Just up your street I would have thought smile
They carry out very worthwhile projects and I have supported them for the last 15 years, since my mum died with vascular dementia.
I do agree though, that the AgeUk banner seeems strangely offputting........

j08 Wed 20-Feb-13 22:35:14

Gransnet starting hosting the Age UK forum for them a while ago, shortly after GN took over the Oldie's Borum Forum. It's all the one forum now, no matter which heading you use or which direction you come at it from.

Wtih the Age uk thing, it could be a tax dodge! shock (not really!)
