Mine is because my DSGD already has 2 other grandmothers and my DH is Italian. The Susie is what his sister calls me.

And none of my DGCs is called Stanley but one nearly was

A newcomer pinched my name so I chose my mum's name and my birth year.

And I am one..

My alleged attitude towards the festive led to me being called the Christmas Grump.

Mine is a wicked parody of what people where I live love to refer to their daughters, and the colour they dress them in.
I chose it as being a the snob that I am about them, and also out of pure jealousy as I did not have a daughter.
I have four grandaughters though, none of whom are pink princesses thank goodness.

And I used to be a telephone operator in my youth.

Gally Sat 23-Feb-13 21:55:50

Mine is what I decided to be called when I became a grandmother. The
G for Granny and the rest is my name - no prizes for guessing that!

Because the Phoenix rises from the ashes, and that is what I try to do.

You're so brave, Jane! grin

Mine just demonstrates a complete lack of imagination grin

Mishap Sat 23-Feb-13 21:30:19

Mine is a mixture of my initials when I was single; as in Miss HAP.

I was also known as the Bottomless Pit, as my surname was Pitt and I was very thin indeed!

Mine is the name of a favourite doll that is still around and lives with DD. It was first resurrected when I was setting up an ebay account and every user name I tried based on my name. place I lived etc etc was rejected. DD suggested I use it.

Since then, being a simple soul, and not wanting to be confused by a range of different user names on different sites I have used it for most online applications, including Gransnet.

Mine is that of a favourite doll, who is still around and lives with DD. The name first got resurrected when I was trying to set up a user name on ebay and every combination of my own name, places I lived etc etc got rejected. DD suggested it and it worked so I tend to use it for a lot of things because being of a simple mind I find dealing with lots of different user names for different online applications far too confusing. Having devised one, I stick to it.

Ariadne helped a man sort himself out!!! And I studied Classics - my second love after English.

I have always been a bit of a campaigner; for years I've quietly been sending off postcards, letters, emails etc. and signing petitions and even joining an occasional demonstration. Then a few years back I just decided that it's not enough to be an 'armchair' campaigner any longer and began to get more active; hence my name. smile

Mine is what my grandson used to call me. It used to be his version of Cranky the crane on Thomas the Tank Engine and apparently decided it would do for Granny too. smile

NannaAnna Sat 23-Feb-13 20:02:30

Anna, who has opted to be called Nanna by grandchildren. You could call it lack of imagination or originality wink

absent Sat 23-Feb-13 19:29:58

All my grandchildren were born and live in New Zealand. My eldest grandson decided to call me grana, so I became absentgrana when I joined gransnet. Then I unsubscribed from gransnet for a little while and when I returned, I just selected absent – an abbreviation people had been using for a year or more anyway.

Grannyeggs Sat 23-Feb-13 18:47:51

My nickname in the family was Eggy. My brothers and sister still call me that,my first Gransnet name was Golden Gran, using my surname.

kittylester Sat 23-Feb-13 18:47:35

I expect we all do Gaga but it would be silly if we all called ourselves that. grin
