Do you live near where you did when you were 14?

On Today this morning, a contributor said that around 50% of the population of the UK lives within five miles of where they lived when they were 14. I wonder if this is true of Gransnetters? Some of us seem to be very far from our childhood homes. I'm 150 miles away but only about 20 from where I was born.

I'm 270 miles away from where I was at 14 and have lived in 9 houses since then. Can't imagine what it must be like to stay in one location all one's life. I think I must have some wanderlust genes.

Both daughters grew up in Surbiton where I now live. One has only moved a few miles to New Malden, but the other lives in Luxembourg.

I'm around 45 miles from where I lived when I was 14. At that time I lived in Bushey, Herts. Moved further North when we married and have been in the same small town now for 37 years but have move once within the town. All three of our DDs live within 25 miles of where they were born but none quite as close as 5 miles.

Not 25 miles, should have typed 15 miles.

I lived near Wetherby, North Yorkshire when I was 14, I now live 95 miles away in Northumberland - via Leicstershire, Kent, London, Essex, Northamptonshire and Co. Durham.

Where you've been since 14 is really interesting. I think the speaker on Today meant to suggest the 50% had stayed put. Sometimes the case but some of us are real globe trotters.

Born in Perth Scotland, moved to Wales at age five. Left home and lived in London at the age of 17, got married there had children there and then moved to Wiltshire. Left in 1977 and came to cardiff, have now m oved moved from cardiff to a plave near Barry, Vale of Glam. At the age of 71 I think my traveling days are over and will probably stay where I am,

I live in the same road that i grew up in and my father (86) still lives in that house now. I left my parents house when i got married and lived a couple of miles away for about 6 months before buying a house back in my parents road. My oldest DD and her partner live with me and and my youngest DD and SIL and DGD live just around the corner from me and i see them all every day. We live in Warley, West Midlands about 5 miles from Birmingham city centre.

I grew up in the North, 280 miles away and never, ever saw myself staying there. It just seemed the thing to do - to move to a bigger world. I just couldn't imagine staying but always enjoyed my trips 'back home'. My immediate family are all now London and striking distance thereof so moving back North wouldn't happen but, even so, I doubt I'd want to. I love all London has to offer.

Maybe if you grow up in London or the Home Counties, there's little incentive to move anywhere else - the bright lights of?

I was born and brought up in West Yorkshire but left to go to college and haven't lived there since. Our home is now about 90 miles from where I was born but in the meantime I've lived in Liverpool, Chester, London and near Worcester, moving because of DH's job. Quite a lot of our time has also been spent in the Netherlands, where DH worked for a few years.
