What I did today! The next chapter!

One of those days today! I was trying to get packed for my hospital stay, tidy up the house. I did a woollen wash and put stuff out on the line. I was aiming to get out in time for lunch with my knitting group friends.

I then started to clean the E bay high chair DD bought for use here. Not a good idea! If you put a tap on, make sure the plug is out of the sink. Don’t go off and do something else!

So I rushed back into the flood, upstairs to the airing cupboard, got out the “doggy towels” to mop up. I cleared up, whilst paddling about in the room in wet slippers, socks and trouser bottoms. The tap had over flowed across the work surface into the cupboard underneath. This soaked a box of washing powder, which is now in the shed drying out. The box will need re-gluing.
There is moral here somewhere.

During this crisis I was talking on the phone to SIL who rang to wish me well in hospital.

I have now girded up my loins for parathyroid surgery tomorrow.
Due to go in at 8am beds permitting with hopefully just an overnight stay. I have no idea how I will feel afterwards.
Probably come home with a bolt through my neck! grin

Very happily my lovely DD is coming over on Saturday to cook me a meal and administer TLC, her suggestion, knowing that her father is as much use as a chocolate fireguard at such times. Its very useful having a nurse in the family she was so lovely today, and I will see DGS. smile

Galen, just broccoli and sweet potatoe with some vegetable stock, salt, pepper and a sprinkling of mixed herbs.

The jacket is, now I have read the care label, boiled wool and not to be washed!

Ana Thu 14-Mar-13 15:15:23

Boiled wool? You'd think it would have been quite at home in that soup...grin

JessM Thu 14-Mar-13 16:13:51

It was the Clangers was it not, that had blue string pudding.

I washed a jumper of hubby`s a while ago, put it in on a delicates wash, it was XL, came out looking like a 3 year old`s! Why didn`t I know that an Aran jumper can`t go in the machine, must be old age!

Babysat two DGCs as they are really poorly and neither DD not SiL can take today off. I quite like looking after poorly children. I love the snuggling up under a quilt, watching rubbish TV and reading their favourite books. And, I think I gave them the bug so I should be fine!! grin

Been at the CAB today. Chatting to bailiffs and loan companies! The confusion about the changes in Housing and Council Tax benefits has already started. The letters sent out by the local authority are doing nothing to clarify the situation. hmm

Movedalot Thu 14-Mar-13 17:05:28

I don't usually read this thread but was obviously meant to today. Stansgran have a wonderful time tonight, we saw it in Birmingham. You will be watching the best ballet company in the UK imo. smile

Good luck Nellie. What is wrong with your parathyroids? flowers

Galen Thu 14-Mar-13 21:40:58

Have added a lovely new photo of Torben to my album. He looks so grown up for a wee boy who will be celebrating his third birthday next month. smile

JessM Fri 15-Mar-13 12:49:19

annodomini Fri 15-Mar-13 13:04:45

numberplease grin! Did it work - do you not have to wash her afterwards? I'm needing to get in amongst Daisy the Cat's matted bits shock! She'll not let me brush her, and her long hair gets matted around her hips and neck. I think I'm going to have to put a comb in at the back of the matted areas against her skin and snip away the matts. Anyone got a better idea? DH was covered in scratches and bites after holding her the last time.

Galen Fri 15-Mar-13 14:17:46

Try wrapping in a towel?

annodomini Fri 15-Mar-13 14:38:26

I see a snag with that solution, Galen. If a cat is wrapped in a towel, how do you get at her fur?

Ella46 Fri 15-Mar-13 14:46:06

soop Torben looks so grown up now! Gorgeous! sunshine

soop Fri 15-Mar-13 15:07:27

Yes, Torben is certainly no longer a "little baby"...he says that "I'm a big boy now"...smile smile smile

Galen Fri 15-Mar-13 15:41:34

You leave the head and neck sticking out?
Are you handy with a needle? Perhaps you could make a kind of straight jacket with relevant bits sticking out. I'm trying to picture one now!confused

numberplease Fri 15-Mar-13 15:46:40

What a handsome young man!
Yes, Marelli, it worked, but it took an awful lot of rinsing off, but it`s what the vet recommended. Next time you tackle Daisy, has your hubby got any strong gardening or driving gloves he can put on whilst he`s holding onto her?

annodomini Fri 15-Mar-13 16:14:26

I can't help thinking there would be a market for a feline straitjacket, though how you'd get the cat into it would be the next problem. Dragon's Den, anyone?

soop Fri 15-Mar-13 16:32:46

anno grin

Marelli Fri 15-Mar-13 16:48:27

Thank you all so much for your helpful advice.....grin! Daisy looks like a wee angel, but she's more like a shark, the amount of big sharp teeth she has.
