This is a bit out of my range but it looks a bargain for some Gransnetter.

I was worried about window cleaners and and are they easily accessible, as I just couldn't clean them myself!!!!

Orca Tue 19-Mar-13 20:07:47

One of the servants can clean the windows. The Lower Footman probably.

HUNTERF Tue 19-Mar-13 20:25:43

Phoenix

That link works on my laptop.

Enviousamerican Tue 19-Mar-13 20:35:11

whoever decorated that "house" their taste was all in their mouth.

Hideous!

I once nearly bought a house because it has a boot room but it was in an inconvenient location.

Orca Footmen don't clean windows. Everyone knows that.

Bags Wed 20-Mar-13 08:40:21

That somment, absent, made me think of the reasons we bought the house we're now in: (1) it had a fireplace, (2) the primary school was within walking distance for a five year old (just over a mile), (3) wild, overgrown garden with "potential".

Somment!?

Frank, your links never work for me. I have tried to politely tell you how to make them 'blue', on your Rolls Royce thread, but I don't think you like to accept advice from a woman! Read the 'Links' section below the ' add your message' box. You need square [[ brackets ]] around it, or tick 'convert link automatically', although that doesn't always work for me. If it appears in blue when you preview, you have succeeded. Why not give it a try? smile

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 20-Mar-13 09:27:58

It's not far from GNHQ. Will just have a word with Geraldine to see if it could fit all our cake in

glammanana Wed 20-Mar-13 09:37:05

The bathroom is so awful it would give you a headache not relax you,and the windows are so unattractive it looks like a dolls house DD once had,so not for me I'm affraid I'd rather stay where I am in my super little apartment, but we do have a Life Cinema close by so don't feel left out at all.

HUNTERF Wed 20-Mar-13 10:03:00

Hi shysal

The links are showing blue on my laptop. It happens automatically.
I just have to click on it and the link opens and it works when I send links to my friend who is on Windows 8.
Are you on Windows 8?.
Some of my friends say the Office documents which I send will not open on their machines which are earlier versions but I have no trouble opening incoming office documents.
I could try putting the brackets around any link I post but I am not sure it will make any difference.

HUNTERF Go to the bottom of the screen and read the instructions under the heading Links to find out how links work on an internet forum. It is not the same process as on individual computers.

If you send someone an Office document in a later version than the one they have installed, they won't be able to open it. However, if they send you an Office document in an earlier version that the one you have installed, you will be able to open it. It's obvious really.

Hi Absent

I have just phoned my friend who is not a member of Gransnet and it is showing blue on his screen.
He has just clicked on it and the link has come up without any problem.

Has this now worked on your machine?.

HUNTERF Wed 20-Mar-13 10:21:57

Hi Absent

It has not worked on my machine.

Frank

glammanana Wed 20-Mar-13 10:31:55

HunterF your link has shown up in blue this time so you must have got something right that time, your previous links have always been in black and I use windows 8 on my laptop.

HUNTERF Wed 20-Mar-13 10:38:53

glammanana

Is yours a brand new laptop?.
It automatically shows up blue on mine and on my friends but the link which you say has worked on yours has not worked on my friends machine either.
We both use Acer laptops.
I am just wondering if it is a feature of Acer?.

Frank

Ana Wed 20-Mar-13 10:45:51

I use an Acer laptop and it doesn't automatically 'blue' links - I have to tick the convert links automatically box.

Elegran Wed 20-Mar-13 10:49:42

Frank Tell your friend to go to Tucows and download Open Office. It is a FREE download (so this is not advertising, GNHQ!) which can show documents in old Microsoft Office formats.

When I got my new laptop it had Office 2010 on it, all-singing, all-dancing, but it was only a trial and soon terminated. I did not want to spend on Office 2010 so I installed the older version from disc. It was perfectly OK but would not display the new format Word 2012 files, which people were sending me. So I downloaded Open Office - the Writing app is almost indistinguishable from my earlier Word.

There is a presentaion app included which is just like Power Point - but free.

glammanana Wed 20-Mar-13 10:51:34

Hunter mine is Acer Aspire 5738Z it does everything except the ironing grin my tablet is also Acer.I don't know if it is a feature of Acer as I am not interested in the techi side of it as long as I can use it I'm more than happy.Just use the box to convert your links automatically,or brackets as directed in Link explanation below.

Orca Wed 20-Mar-13 10:59:58

Who does then Abs? I'll bow to your superior knowledge. I must confess to never watching Upstairs, Downstairs.

HUNTERF Wed 20-Mar-13 11:06:12

Hi glammanana

But that does not work on my friend's machine when he opened that link.
I have just phoned him.
It came up as blue on his machine like when I did not put the brackets around but it will not open.
It appears our laptops are the only ones working correct and there is something wrong with everybody else's.

glammanana Wed 20-Mar-13 11:10:08

Hunter forward Elegrans post to him ^^,

Elegran Wed 20-Mar-13 11:13:40

I don't know if it applies to blueing links. I only know it opens old Word files.

But you never know, that might solve it.
