Why does mine seem to need turning out practically every two weeks? Why have I not managed to get matching pillowcases for God knows how long? Who put that bag of flanells right at the back (thought we were getting low on them! hmm

And how do you lose a sheet?!

Do charity shops take sheets (no longer deep enough) and odd pillowcases?

Mine has a defunct vacuum cleaner in it. confused

Gally Mon 25-Mar-13 21:42:18

Mine is off the utility room. It contains : sheets, towels etc which is what you would expect; also, 2 step ladders, old dog's bed (in case I decide to get a Millie-replacement), bucket and mop, about 14 pairs of j's shoes which I can't quite bring myself to dispose of, an old door, 3 clothes airers, a bag of stuff for Oxfam and some old sailing gear shock
It's one if my projects for a rainy day!

I lost a valance from the bed in my airing cupboard [I'm sure that's where I put it but it was never seen again; sort of Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe/Airing cupboard'ish...]. being very very cold in Northumberland last week I started using hot water bottles again and, at the top of my airing cupboard are the childrens hot water bottle covers [I bought a hot water bottle back with me; the S.O. said he thought it had perished, but I'm perished at the moment so I'm going to risk it wink]. merlot; please let me know what you thought of Steeleye Span..I saw them the other year and they did their album 'Now We Are Six' even though they admitted themselves it wasn't a very good album, so it was a strange choice; I must admit to not enjoying it much. I used to love seeing Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band at Christmas, but they don't perform round these'ere'parts no more sad. I think this tour is more Parcel of Rogues'ish so, hopefully you'll have a great night. Back to the subject of airing cupboards; in mine are the childrens cot blankets; cushion covers that will never cover cushions again [they're horrid]; lots of flannels [never use them]; an oven glove; an exfoliator; a showerhead [not sure if it's new or old]. The collection of pillow cases show the stages my children went through; transformers, Dennis the Menace; the embarrassing time when my daughters bedroom had the same curtains and duvet covers that someone in Eastenders had [BHS blush]. Woofits [?]. And [gulp] a spider.

Got ruthless with the contents of my airing cupboard when I realised I didn't need 25 sheets and several duvet covers in case I did some decorating.Took the whole lot to my dog's boarding kennels for bedding.

Just got back from the Steeleye Span concert. It was very good, Tegan. Lots of new stuff I didn't know but because there were no programmes I couldn't really follow the songs they were singing based on Terry Pratchett's writing. The jigs and reels were good foot tapping stuff which I found a bit tricky because the lady sitting next to me had a gorgeous guide dog who insisted on lying across my feet!!

They ended up with a singalong of their best known songs. grin

My airing cupboard is in the corner of the living room, well, dining room if daughter wasn`t in what used to be the front room. It was built in here by the previous owner of the house. Although the new green covering on the newer water tanks prevents most of the heat getting out, I still dry excess washing in there. All my bedding, towels, curtains and bath mats,( 7 or 8 sets) are in the walk in cupboard under the stairs, also entered from the living room.

Don't know what I would do without my large airing cupboard-or my step in larder(not quite big enough to call a walk in larder.) Only trouble is at this time of year we are llikely to starve as the larder is so cold we daren't open the door!

It's not actually possible to lose a whole double duvet is it?! (retreats to corner of room, arms round knees, wailing)

Ana Thu 28-Mar-13 11:28:26

No. You've probably put it somewhere else because it was too big to go in the airing cupboard, jingl smile

j08 Thu 28-Mar-13 11:32:11

Tearing my hair here! [ grin]

Galen Thu 28-Mar-13 11:44:05

Under the bed?

Ana Thu 28-Mar-13 11:55:17

On top of the wardrobe?

j08 Thu 28-Mar-13 12:13:30

You were right Ana. Found it in the bottom of the very last cupboard I looked in. (Now got to put umpteen single duvets, blankets, mattress covers and pillows away)

My day is kyboshed. hmm

Galen Thu 28-Mar-13 12:22:17

But think how tidy everything will be!

j08 Thu 28-Mar-13 12:32:42

grin flowers Galen

Ana Thu 28-Mar-13 12:33:30

Glad you found it, anyway! grin

I have to be tidy as my entire flat measures 24 sq. metres. I keep a lot of bedding in the long drawer under my bed settee - no airing cupboard, no utility room, just a narrow cupboard to house my vacuum cleaner and broom. My only outside space is the balcony, where I keep my sun lounger with a waterproof cover and large plastic storage crate. There is also a ski locker in a communal room on the ground floor, where I keep my snow shovel, cover for the car, wellingtons, spare petrol can, de-icer - no skis.
Oddly enough, apart from having to keep out-of-season clothes in bin bags in a wardrobe (I have just put my summer clothes back, after my six weeks in the New Zealand summer) I don't find myself short of storage. It is just a matter of being well organised (and having few possession)!

Greatnan Fri 29-Mar-13 10:11:36

I keep a lot of stuff under the double bed - jig-saws, roller skates and flattened cardboard boxes, as you have to keep them in France if you want to return anything.

We are refurbishing the entire house before attempting to let it when we move to New Zealand in May. Consequently, the contents of various rooms are temporarily transferred to somewhere else while those rooms are being painted. I started and have nearly finished restoring my office to more than its former glory after the new carpet was laid on Wednesday. It's usually pretty tidy but I have gone through files and folders and shredded out-of-date and superfluous documents, reordered the books on the bookshelves, having already taken a couple of hundred to a charity shop, and sorted the stationery cupboard. Why have I kept a huge box full of carbon paper – and for how long have I been keeping it? All that now remains is to sort through all the receipts, letters, bank statements, scribbled notes, etc. that arrived during the interim and file those in the appropriate place. In just over a month, of course, it will all be dismantled again for shipping.

This is the second time we have gone through this process in just over three years.

Can't remember when I last opened mine¬ shameful!

Plan to 'spring clean' after Easter, so much to chuck out and so much to clean

Greatnan Fri 29-Mar-13 12:58:44

I think the tradition of the spring clean goes back to the times before washing machines, vacuum cleaners, easycare materials, etc. when heavy Winter curtains would be taken down, washed and put away. People nowadays seem to keep their homes clean all the year round but Spring seems to bring out the need for renewal, clearing out, etc.

kittylester Fri 29-Mar-13 13:08:20

Spring definitely requires window and glass cleaning. But, why does the sun shine and show up how dirty the windows are between visits from the window cleaner confused

LullyDully Fri 29-Mar-13 13:43:51

merlotgran still listen to Steeleye span on my iplayer...great, envy

j08 Fri 29-Mar-13 13:57:47
