My heart goes out to the people in Boston and I hope your families or friends weren't there at the Marathon.

Envious

I am appalled. It will mean nothing to Americans but I feel great sadness for America today. The world is a crazy place and I send respect to ALL countries suffering with such vile creatures in their midst.

sad sad sad

Enviousamerican Mon 15-Apr-13 22:03:48

Nanaej Totally agree there are some truly wicked people in this world.

POGS the world is a crazy place and with the London Marathon only days away, we should be extremely concerned here too.

Permanent state of high alert. sad

Evil bastards, planned the explosions 3 hours after the winner finished to affect the most people and at the finish line so plenty of photographers. I fear a terrorist link. evil pure evil. My heart is with the poor people of Boston who were cheering on the runners.

Awful news sad. I hope the perpetrators are caught.

Gally Tue 16-Apr-13 06:31:25

Very, very sad sad
Sad too that the presenters of BBC Breakfast are 'bleeding' the story and asking witnesses inane and almost ghoulish questions about the scene. Have turned it off.

A shocking ending to a joyous occasion. Three deaths is, of course, three too many but let us hope that there are no more. Let us hope too that those who are injured make a speedy and complete recovery both physically and emotionally.

JessM Tue 16-Apr-13 07:07:27

Munich and Atlanta Olympics were both targeted but it is mercifully rare that sporting events have been attacked in this way. Awful.

janeainsworth Tue 16-Apr-13 07:13:37

Shocking, dreadful news. So many lives blighted sad

Butty Tue 16-Apr-13 08:16:06

What on earth possess people to commit such devastation, on such an occasion. I find it enormously saddening.

LullyDully Tue 16-Apr-13 09:02:20

I can not understand who would do such a thing! How can we live in fear? We were lucky that there was no attack on the Olympics, not without trying of course. Vile!

BAnanas Tue 16-Apr-13 09:33:01

I was in Boston a few years ago, such an awful thing to happen, I heard some of the parents from the Connecticut shooting tragedy were in the crowds. I am so sorry for anyone who has been affected by this latest tragedy.

j08 Tue 16-Apr-13 09:35:18

So awful that an eight year old boy is amongst the dead. So very sad.

j08 Tue 16-Apr-13 09:38:22

I know many children have been, and sadly are being, killed in the war torn countries, but that cannot make this right. It's so sad for all of them.

absent Tue 16-Apr-13 10:22:59

Surely killing people, whether adults or children, whether known or strangers, whether through terrorism, war or straightforward murder, is simply wrong.

whenim64 Tue 16-Apr-13 11:24:08

Senseless! Why Boston? Indeed, why anywhere, but Boston is a beautiful city, of great people, that doesn't go out of its way to ruffle anyone's feathers. What a cowardly way to pick on people who are doing no-one any harm. My sincere condolences to the people of Boston.

absent Tue 16-Apr-13 11:26:49

Even a city that does go out of its way to ruffle feathers – if there is such a place – doesn't deserve bombs.

Surely the very nature of terrorism – foreign or homegrown – is the random nature of the attack. People feel terror because they don't know where or when it will happen again.

whenim64 Tue 16-Apr-13 11:46:16

I wonder how random it is in the minds of the terrorists who have done this, absent? Are they moving to another stage of targeting 'easy' victims? Reminds me of the Warrington bombing. Hopefully, the FBI will soon get insider information.

GillieB Tue 16-Apr-13 12:07:20

I have had to switch it off, too - I am afraid the media go over and over things and try to draw every little drop of sensationalism out of it.

It is so sad when there were so many happy people enjoying their day out - I see the FBI is not ruling anything out.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those affected.

absent Tue 16-Apr-13 12:25:02

Not random in the minds of terrorists necessarily – indeed, usually carefully planned – but apparently random for the general public. Of course this might not be a random attack given that the bombs were located by a VIP area. It remains to be seen what the police and FBI can uncover. Whatever – it's still a shocking and hideous event.

Butty Tue 16-Apr-13 13:17:57

I found the long array of flags a very poignant sight, amongst the devastation.
I wondered if this dreadful event was aimed not just at the Americans but internationally. There would have been many runners from across the globe.
