Hope it's ok to put this here.
My DD1 has been promoted at work. We are so pleased for her. She has had a couple of really horrible years which she has come through with dignity and a positive attitude. She works so hard and also copes as a single ( not through choice) mum. So proud of her.

ginny flowers - not to detract from your post, but I'm sharing your joy. My daughter is on maternity leave and has just been told that when she returns it will be to a promotion. She was expecting to be made redundant!!
wine Cheers to our clever daughters! So nice to be able to share some good news isn't it? smile

Well done girls and congratulations to their Mums too for producing such talented young ladies! It's great to know that they are all doing so well flowers
Perhaps I can add my most junior daughter who has been promoted too having just returned after maternity leave; she will have to go almost full time and sadly, for the first year will actually not be able to take any of her earnings home - it will all go on childcare until the eldest goes to school in 2014. She works so hard both at home with very small children and at work where she always puts in 120%. Two degrees and it's come to this - I feel a letter coming on to Mrs Theresa May, her MP angry

Congratulations to clever and successful DDS, but Gally that is so sad. Is there really no way round this? DH and I were having this conversation today about "equal employment rights" for women and how in the early 70's when we had graduated and he had qualified as a CA (I was a teacher) we could actually manage on ONE income - poor mind you, but we had a decent sized house, a car and we coped. Nowadays very very few couples in their 20's can buy a house and manage on one income, unless one is a merchant banker. So have we really progressed all that much? Sometimes I feel we women have won the battle but lost the war.

Well done Gally's daughter. grin I can understand your anger though.

Can I share my DD's news about the production she has designed of As You Like It at the RST in Stratford which opened for previews on her birthday last Friday. The actual first night is this Saturday and I am always so proud when I go to one of her plays. I wonder when and where my "little girl" learned to do these things!!!

It's strange when you first see your children excelling at something that you couldn't do yourself! One of my daughters used to be an excellent dressmaker and even made a complete set of loose covers without a pattern. The other is a great cook and gardener, which she certainly didn't learn from me.
Having daughters is like having a second bite at the cherry - of course I am now on my fourth bite!
