Good news from New Zealand...

I was just about to log off and go to bed when my daughter rang me. My grand-daughter loves entering competitions (she has already had $NZ600 of jewellery in the love story competition, the final is on 25th May). She was in a lecture when she got a message to say she has won a Ford Fiesta worth $NZ25,000 . She will be able to get $20,000 for it, and with what they have already saved they will be able to put a deposit on a house. She is only 20, and her fiance is 21, but they both work hard and she is an excellent manager. She fiishes her nursing degree at the end of the summer and will be getting quite a good salary. Sam has a good job as a personal trainer and they have been saving hard. In NZ you get a sum (I think it is $1,000 ) from the government to help you buy your first house. They are in an unfurnished flat, so they have most of their furniture already (and some from her mum, of course!)
We all joked about her obsession with competitions, but she is the one laughing now

Thank you, folks! She has always been very level-headed and determined. She was not quite 18 when she began her nursing course but she has loved it and had the top marks in every year.

Wow what a fantastic prize Greatnan and a wonderful head start for a young couple. As the saying goes "if you are not in it, you won't win it" so good for her ! Lets hope there are many more super prizes to come. smile

Well done, Lara. I've known a couple of people who were dedicated 'compers' and they had several good holidays, including cruises. Hope her luck holds for the romance comp. She's a born winner! smile

Many thanks. I think she is a bit obsessed now, Movedalot, and this will just spur her on. I don't think she enters any where she has to pay - they are mostly on-line and I suppose they are a form of advertising!
