Good news from New Zealand...

I was just about to log off and go to bed when my daughter rang me. My grand-daughter loves entering competitions (she has already had $NZ600 of jewellery in the love story competition, the final is on 25th May). She was in a lecture when she got a message to say she has won a Ford Fiesta worth $NZ25,000 . She will be able to get $20,000 for it, and with what they have already saved they will be able to put a deposit on a house. She is only 20, and her fiance is 21, but they both work hard and she is an excellent manager. She fiishes her nursing degree at the end of the summer and will be getting quite a good salary. Sam has a good job as a personal trainer and they have been saving hard. In NZ you get a sum (I think it is $1,000 ) from the government to help you buy your first house. They are in an unfurnished flat, so they have most of their furniture already (and some from her mum, of course!)
We all joked about her obsession with competitions, but she is the one laughing now

She had to answer a couple of questions - I must speak to her on Facebook and find out what they were! I think most of the competitions she enters do demand a slogan.
Cars are fantastically expensive in NZ as they have to be imported, mainly from Japan and Korea, so this is a great prize.
She has entered a competition to get her wedding paid for, but I think that is just a lottery. My daughter would be very happy if she won that one, as she has three girls!

Lovely, what a great start for her.

I asked her what she had to do and here is her reply:

It was really quite simple, I just had to answer questions about different cars using the information given on the Ford website. It was so easy I had completely forgotten I had even entered the competition! I have now had the ownership transferred to my name so it is officially mine, I still have to wait for it to be shipped down from Auckland but it should arrive some time this week or early next week. I will put up lots of pictures when it arrives! xxx

The good news continues - Sam has been promoted to Fitness Manager for the chain of gyms. He has been in NZ less than three years, but he is very good at his job, hard working and popular. I suppose the fact that he is also very attractive might have helped! Lara is a very special girl, but we all think she has found the right life partner in Sam.
The final of the love story competition is next weekend, so we are keeping our fingers crossed that they win another $NZ1,000 of jewellery.

Greatnan Mon 06-May-13 14:48:19

I don't know why not, Galen, but I have posted it on my FB page as well as here.

You could check your spam box Galen it could be there

Galen Mon 06-May-13 19:56:19

Will do but it doesn't matter. I'm just glad she won. She sounds lovely!

Greatnan Mon 06-May-13 20:39:27

She is, Galen, but all her siblings are the same. The three who did not emigrate are a real support to each other and they are all devoted to their two little nieces. Big families can be very good sometimes.
