I have just been to do a bit of shopping in Sutton Coldfield and I met this lady who I knew I had met at one of my keep fit classes.
I assumed it would be one of my classes in the Birmingham area but she then moaned we met in one of my London classes.
What is the chance of meeting somebody you knew in London in a place like Sutton Coldfield?.

So've I.

Well, I assume it was by a lady.

JO8 , what are you up to ? They will be after you for using the word Lady and not Woman.

I met several people I know today. None of them reprimanded me! Am I being ostracised?

Does a real lady reprimand? Surely she would just purse her lips and assume one would just know.

I think the reprimand in my case is sometimes called "a quiet word", and came via the mighty web.

Warsaw, Thessalonika, the Hebrides, Nairobi, Hartford Conneticut, and Sutton Coldfield (where is that - I asked once before...)

Don't Gransnetters get about, eh?

Some years ago, while on holiday in the Yorkshire Dales we decided, on the only day it didn't rain to walk to the top of Ingleborough. As we reached the top I looked up to see a friend from home in Berkshire whom we hadn't seen for ages. He did not reprimand me or DH but we stood chatting for ages until the children's boredom became obstructive. At which point I quite unfairly reprimanded them.

We live in Boston, on the Eastern side of the country, and were amazed on a trip to Morecambe, in Lancashire, to bump into someone who worked where we did. No reprimands though!

Quite a few years ago we where away and mr.g went to book a trip to an Oasis for two nights, when he was coming away from the desk he was tapped on the shoulder by one of the other scientists who worked in their lab but on another floor, they had no idea they where going to the same place for their leave,he was also greeted by a chap he went to school with when we where in a bar in The Canaries the guy said he had not changed at all,DS1 asked was his dad bald when he was a young boy then !! he was not repremanded for asking that grin

I recently bumped into a young man who looked vaguely familiar. He called out a greeting, followed up by "You don't remember me, do you?" to which I replied "No I'm afraid I don't" and moved swiftly on. Should I have reprimanded myself for rudeness? smile

At the checkout in M&S the assistant greeted me warmly with 'hello how are yo?/' I said I was fine and then she said 'And how are the family?' Good thanks I replied. 'Oh that's good , so Nigel not still giving you trouble?'

Erm??? I do not know anyone called Nigel..so what did I say???

'Goodness no! I soon sorted that out!

I packed the bag quickly and never went back for a while!! confused

This thread is so funny! When walking along the beach in Zakynthos, my children shouted out 'hello, miss!' And we looked to the edge of the sea to find their topless dinnerlady playing bat and ball in the waves. No-one reprimanded anyone grin

A teacher friend taking her children to Florida found herself seated behind a family from her school. She did reprimand one of them once, out of sheer habit. grin The father thanked her at the end of the flight, he said it was the best flight they had ever had with their family and could she sit behind them next year as well?

Nanaej , lol

{PS Sutton Coldfield is to the North of Brum what Solihull is to the South!}

The problem is a lot of people know my name as I was a main point of contact when I worked in banking and at the council.
I tend to remember the faces of people I worked with and the ones who I go to the keep fit classes with and I mostly know if I met them through work or keep fit.
The problem is I sometimes mix people up with the bank and the council and also I do not tend to remember which keep fit class they go to.

Oddly enough I met a lady in Oxford about 3 years ago and I thought I had seen her in Sutton Coldfield.
She had never been to the Birmingham area. I had met her in London.

Will coincidences never cease?hmm

Sel Wed 08-May-13 11:23:52

I met the Catholic priest from Morecambe who officiated at my wedding and baptised my children in the lingerie department of M & S on Oxford Street in London. He seemed to expect a reprimand.

Ana Wed 08-May-13 11:28:09

Sel! grin

whenim64 Wed 08-May-13 11:28:50

Well, perhaps you were remiss not to give him one, Sel (a reprimand, before anyone jumps on that one!) grin What business does a priest have, wandering round lacy frippery? grin

Elegran Wed 08-May-13 11:31:00

Like Father Ted and co.

j08 Wed 08-May-13 12:17:32

He baptised your children in the lingerie department of m and s? That's quite unusual isn' t it Sel? smile

Elegran Wed 08-May-13 12:20:18

Very ecumenical.

Charleygirl Wed 08-May-13 12:26:20

Sel, I do not understand why you did not reprimand the priest because a lingerie department is the last place that a man of cloth should be seen in. I am shocked.

Come one - the items were not necessarily for himself were they? hmm He might have had a sister/mother's birthday coming up..........hmm again. Although under the circumstances he might have done better (whatever the motive) to use the internet for his shopping.
