Are we going to be seeing more of Charles and Camilla now the Queen seems to be scaling back her engagements?

I thought Camilla looked suitably regal at the State Opening of Parliament

I hadn't seen this about "The Royal Cushion" - for heaven's sake, whatever next!

The trouble is that the British public are subjected to royalist propaganda constantly on the TV.

The BBC is supposed to be an apolitical organisation that presents information impartially. The issue of monarchy is a political one but the BBC certainly doesn't take a neutral stance on it.

The organisation Republic continues to challenge the BBC about its lack of balanced coverage.

Deeda Count me in with you on this - the tedium of the royal life of endless engagements in sprauncy costumes of a bygone age - it's a form of slavery if you ask me... And as long as I don't have to join in, I'm happy for it to continue as long as it likes!

Ella46 Thu 16-May-13 08:17:22

Don't be silly gillybob, he needs his hands free to hold his ears back when it's windy grin

gillybob Thu 16-May-13 07:55:27

Possibly Absent grin or maybe just "piles too much money and an ego to match" .

Of course the thought of carrying his own "pile cushion" wouldn't cross his stuck up, royal mind would it?

They get well-compensated for the inconveniences that would drive most people bonkers. (Many of them are bonkers, of course). They could always abdicate if it were so unbearable. Funny how so few do. Can't be so very bad worrying about your privacy (if they do) instead of having to worry about where your next meal is coming from and how the children are going to ever be able to get to school, or whether this baby will die of malaria as well as the other two hmm

Relatively speaking the royals don't have it so bad.

absent Thu 16-May-13 01:43:57

Royal piles do you think?

Deedaa Wed 15-May-13 23:15:08

Am I the only person to be really happy not to be part of the Royal Family? No amount of "luxury" is worth it. No wonder Chelsey (sp?) gave up on Harry. Day after day being dragged round factories, hospitals and schools, with every move being commented on and every outfit taken apart and criticised. No privacy when you get home either with the staff knowing what you ate, what you argued about and whether you resorted to seperate beds AGAIN. And, once a year, the ineffable joy of the Royal Variety Performance - or perhaps you could just pull your own head off.

Thank you gillybob grin

gillybob Wed 15-May-13 13:22:49

The recent photographs of The Royal Cushion Carrier cracked me up. grin
and just about sums up the "Royals" for me. With millions of us struggling along day to day, the elderly being left in hospital corridors, children going hungry, families unable to heat their homes (I could go on and on), this buffoon (Charles) actually thinks he lives in the real world and has the damned cheek to lecture US on how WE should behave.

and of course Kate is the first woman to ever be pregnant isn't she bless her? I wonder how "radiant" she would look if she was working shifts in a car factory?

Bags Wed 15-May-13 10:13:37

grin

ginny Wed 15-May-13 09:56:35

Oh, and I must go and measure the Royal 'bump' as I understand the whole nation is agog as to how it is growing.

ginny Wed 15-May-13 09:53:09

Can we start today ? I shall expect my dinner on the table when I return. All the washing and ironing done. Oh, and the bedroom cupboards need sorting as I think I may have worn a few items more than once. I may walk the dogs myself as long as I haven't got too many engagements tomorrow. grin

Bags Wed 15-May-13 09:21:18

Let's make it a team effort, ginny grin Move over, Queen Lizzie.

ginny Wed 15-May-13 08:56:25

Bags shall we offer our services. Not only that but we could get gifts for attending and think of all the things we could see for no charge.Everyone would think we were wonderful as long as we spoke to the children.

Bags Wed 15-May-13 08:42:42

Do you know, I think even I could cope with a "job" that kept me in the lap of luxury and in which, whenever I had to turn up for anything as part of my "duty", someone else organised all the details and got me there in wonderful carefree comfort.

nightowl Wed 15-May-13 08:16:54

Whatever the duties of royalty are absent. Don't ask me, I'm just a humble subject grin

I've lost any respect I ever had for any of them but I still don't think we should judge them for their personal relationships. I think they're all pretty f****d up anyway but so are a lot of us.

absent Wed 15-May-13 08:05:03

What responsibility would that be?

nightowl Wed 15-May-13 07:40:21

I don't think we can judge what happened between Charles / Diana/ Camilla/ Andrew Parker-Bowles. No one knows what goes on in a marriage and they are not the only people to have had extra-marital affairs. I agree Diana was a lamb to the slaughter but she and Charles were so mismatched it was bound to end in tears. Of course back in the day the general public wanted to believe it was a fairy tale - I think we have become more cynical (or realistic) since then.

I don't think Charles should step down to make way for William and Kate. I don't think they have shown any inclination for the role (or indeed for hard work, but that's another story). And I'm sure the Queen and Charles will want to protect William and Kate from having that level of responsibility while they are young (even though they're not actually that young). I think Diana's death understandably made them very protective towards the boys.

He wont ever just hand over to Wills on a plate. He has been waiting all his life to step into the Queens shoes. Long live Elizabeth - keep going like her mum did, wasnt she about 101 when she died?

JessM Wed 15-May-13 06:18:12

He also needs to shut the whatsit up about homeopathy. If he wants to waste his money on that kind of thing, fine. Trying to influence the government re the NHS money they are currently wasting on keeping "homeopathic hospitals" open then absolutely not fine. He wants it to be a sacred cow, immune to the requirement for all other treatments that there is actually some evidence that they work.
Recent freedom of information request about what he has been talking to ministers about was refused.
But if he had any sense he would just step aside and let the popular young couple take over.

Bags Wed 15-May-13 06:03:48

A prince with a past, and currently a misguided and interfering old fool. I don't give a damn about Charles's marriages. It's all water under the bridge now. I'm glad he appears happy with Camilla.

But, boy do I wish he'd keep his royal nose out of politics! He needs to shut the #%^! up if he wants the moanrchy to survive.

Hmmm.... I wonder if it's a plot?

No, he's not clever enough for that.

absent Wed 15-May-13 02:47:06

mrsmopp "She should have backed off when he got married"???? Of course he had no responsibility for his own actions. After all, he's just a prince.

mrsmopp Tue 14-May-13 20:44:34

I can't bring myself to like Camilla at all. She and Charles behaved so badly and caused so much misery to Andrew PB and to Diana and the boys.
She should have backed off when he got married but instead they both carried on regardless. But it is all a long time ago now so that makes it OK I guess. But I still don't like her. Brazen hussy!!
