In two hours we will have this horse race. It worries me every year. Last year a horse had a heart attack and died right after the race. They claimed it could of happen at any time and wasn't because of the race. Yeah, right! They can break their legs,I just can't watch! It has been raining a lot this past week which doesn't help the track. They brought a horse over from
England named Molotof.Keep your fingers crossed no horse gets hurt.Im too much a softy when it comes to animals.

What track is it being run at ?

Enviousamerican Sat 11-May-13 17:12:15

The track doesn't have a name. Its located in a large public park. You can google Iroquois Steeplecase for more info.It is in Nashville,Tn. Where I live.Actually just down the road.

Nonu Sat 11-May-13 17:20:34

Okay, is it a bit like they have a meet at the State fair in Alberque N.M?

it would not be on our TV, interesting they are bringing over an English horse though. Does it mean there is a good purse or is it just to give the horse experience .

Seems an awful long way to travel though , they must have their reasons .

Enviousamerican Sat 11-May-13 17:26:27

Yes,150 thousand dollars. Its not a fair,it's high brow as they say. Princess Ann came once.It seems they bring the horses over a week before the race.IM not well informed obviously.

Gee, that would make it worth their while , still Nashville is not a million miles from Lexington is it ?

Will google later to see how he gets on . Are you having a little flutter ?

Nonu Sat 11-May-13 17:46:01

Just googled , it is run at Percy Warner Park , for the last 70 years or so ?

Reading a little more , seems Molotof is quite fancied .

Enviousamerican Sat 11-May-13 17:46:22

NO,I'm watching a cooking show. How to make a nicefattening chicken pot pie with two thick crusts! Lexington isn't far.Only went once. The race here is once a year, the only race, that's one reason I worry. The track is used once a year? Seems crazy unsafe. It just dirt! seems like racing in Lexington would be safer and smarter.

Enviousamerican Sat 11-May-13 17:55:44

70 years? Yikes! That park and Edwin Warner Park next to it have been there forever. It was given to the city by rich brothers. It's wooded hills and old roads they have turn into walking trails and picnic areas. As high school kids it was perfect for driving around and parking, the road allowed cars then.

Nonu Sat 11-May-13 17:55:55

That sounds yummy Envious , enjoy if you decide to make .

I tell you who i love on your cookery channel , Rachael Ray !her 30 minute meals .

Enviousamerican Sat 11-May-13 18:08:11

Rachel is good. She has her own daily talk/cooking show.I like quick cooking too. That pot pie was very time consuming. My son is coming to visit for 2 weeks from California, arriving in three hours! Have no idea what to cook.We don't have favorite meals I cook.Sounds like I'm a boring cook [hum] I think its cause I don't cook or prepare foods exactly the same way every time.

Nonu Sat 11-May-13 18:18:00

You must be beyond excited at the prospect of having you son with you 2weeks .

may i ask what part of CA ,. he is in ?

Enviousamerican Sat 11-May-13 18:23:32

San Francisco, actually has just taken an apartment in San Rafael, north over the golden gate bridge. Both our birthdates are during the time he is here so we will be celebrating!

Nonu Sat 11-May-13 18:39:05

Of all the cities , San Fran is my favorite and I m not just saying that .
Next in line is Chicago .

You two have a ^ good ^ celebration together . flowers i am sure he will bring you plenty .

cut'n'paste not working properly again; check out the shire horse racing [just thought I'd show you some more of our local customs envious].

Enviousamerican Sat 11-May-13 18:57:21

Bet those Shire horses don't break their legs!

Tegan Sat 11-May-13 19:03:56

Think they have genetic heart defects, though, as they are very tall for draft horses. Has the race been run? Our 'American Correspondant' usually gives us an update on our racing forum. She told us about Arcadius last year. Must have been very upsetting for everyone. Timber racing is usually quite safe [or so I believe] as the horses respect the fences.

Nonu Sat 11-May-13 19:05:16

I have looked in My Rand Mcnally and he is round the area of san pablo & Stinson beach , I think .

We were in Marin County maybe 18months ago to see the civic centre designed by Frank LLoyd Wright .

I only go to Chicago in September , in fact I never go to the States in Winter , too cold x

Stansgran Sat 11-May-13 19:07:17

This horse won't break a leg it will blow up surely

Tegan Sat 11-May-13 19:12:09

Tell you what, it's a long way down if you fall off confused...

Enviousamerican Sat 11-May-13 19:14:11

They have eight races, one like now then 7 more over in four or so hours.

Tegan Sat 11-May-13 19:15:54

Can't find a radio link; next one available is the second leg of the triple crown.
