Over-exposed

I'm sensing a grudging attitude to anyone, especially any woman who has 'made it'. I admire Clare Balding who seems to be able to comment on any sport because she does her research thoroughly. Her anchoring of the Paralympics broadcasts was a prime example of her professionalism.

I think Clare Balding is a fantastic presenter. She was the best on lympics and paralympics.I like the fact she does her homework and is soo knowledgable about all horse sports.I started watching racing because she made it so interesting.I don't rate her as a great interviewer but presenter yes.

That's interesting because one of the reasons Ch4 took her on was to get more people interested in racing [although she isn't on it very often]. My favourite jockey, Liam Treadwell has got Clare to thank for his new teeth.

I saw that interview, she said he could now afford to get his teeth fixed,he did have blinkin awful teeth and she caused an 'outrage' he was innundated with free offers. Funny.She must have the same contract for C4 she had for bbc, just the big meets. I love her shiny enthusiasm, its infectious.

The BBC still use her for her radio walks; you want to get out there and walk too! She's so enthusiastic and interviews so gently but well

Caroline Quentin irritates me also.Didn't like her India or Cornwall programmes .I switchoff/over when I hear her voice.Now she's doing National Parks -no thank you.

Liam comes to our annual racing meet up. He is the dearest lad you could meet and I get really upset when he falls off a horse. His teeth are still in pristine condition .

Clair Balding in a programme tonight about ~Emily Davidson the Suffragette who threw herself under the King's Horse - see what I mean? It doesn't matter if you like them or not it's just she, at the moment, is on everything - or it seems she is. After all this constant Clare Balding programmes, she will then be dropped like a stone just like Carol Vorderman and others who end up doing silly adverts in desperation. This goes for male celebs such as Alan Titmouse and Stephen Fry as I say in my opening thread.

I think that Emily Davidson foolishly tried to stop the King's horse, and hadn't realised just how dangerous such an act would be. 'Throwing herself under' it is not what she had in mind - but sounds more dramatic and courageous.

When I see any of these people doing lots on TV whether it is in the presenting line or acting I always hope they are being sensible with the money they are earning so they are OK when things do finally come to an end!

Not sure what happened with Emily Davidson. Supposedly she just wanted to put a flag on the King's horse so he would go past the winning post carrying a suffragette flag but there's no way you could single out one horse when they're running at full race speed and the chances are he would have been on the other side of the track and surrounded by other horses. Someone did suggest the horse was tailed off which is why she was able to find him but, pre screens etc not sure how she would have been able to pick out one horse in the time available. She also [supposedly] bought a return ticket so didn't mean to die in the process. Looking forward to the programme.

I have read or heard that she was a very excitable and unstable woman which explains why she did such a foolishly impetuous thing.

I've never known if the horse survived; at least I'll find out tomorrow.

I suppose it depends on whether you like their style or not. If, like it seems, most of us you find CQ irritating, then she is on too much. On the other hand many of us seem to like CB so she is not irritating. I never watch daytime TV so probably don't see quite as much of some of them as others though.

What about John Humphrys? He gets about a bit but seems to keep it to programmes to which he is suited. I think he is great and would be happy to see more of him.

I never watch daytime TV either, Moved! The Caroline Quention programmes are on in the evening. Perhaps I don't see enough of Clare Balding to find her irritating, she comes across as a warm and genuine person. I liked her on that quiz show...

Caroline Quentin just talks too loud! Am sure she is very nice, and comes across as very smart but I just don't like people that shout!

Back to the OP. Surely they gave to make a living, 'celebrity' or not. Are you saying Dorsetpennt that they should turn down a fee-paying job and only work now and then? I would think it's a tenuous enough existence and they are simply taking the work when it is offered

Clare has succeeded on merit, not on the back of being beautiful and despite her being a gay woman. Quite an achievement. She is incomparably better than some people who seem to get on in the media like that rather pretty chap who was running the discussions in the velodrome in the Olympics. Goodness me, he was terrible to the point of being embarrassing. But he keeps on getting work.

I want to see women on TV as old and as ugly as any of the men who are on TV. Not that I watch much TV but possibly Quentin balances out Fry,Vorderman Norton and so on. And I do think some people have got on because of their connections. Spaulding has high fallutin' horsey connections and I fear we will never see the end of her. The TV Tarquins love her.

@Aka - You're right. People who find themselves in demand have to capitalise on it - it can peter out at any time leaving them with very little - to turn down lucrative engagements would be throwing away their pension funds in effect.

I think the fact that we see the same people over and over is a lack of imagination among producers, directors etc. They seem to think that if a certain format works then they must do it over and over again. Where is the originality? You can bet we will get more Broadchurch type drama soon and as for David Tennant - well he is in everything including ads. It is like that awful long silence before the announcement of who has won the baking, the singing, the sewing etc etc. I don't know when that started but it now seems to be compulsory for everyone to stand round for several minutes looking fidgety until the result is finally announced.

Enjoyed Clare Baldings two programmes this week especially the queen's horses. I'd rather watch a well researched, thoughtfully presented, interesting programme by a familar face. I noticed that both programmes were suggested or devised by her, which I think came through,good for her!

What I like about her is that there is no pretence over her interest in the subject she's talking about, and, I know I'm biased about this but she does put across a valid viewpoint about racing [even though she's biased as well].
