And it's Fathers Day, the sort of trumped up marketing occasion that put the grump in grumppa in the first place

Never mind, it looks as if I shall be seeing both my DDs and shifting some Pimms.

And next week is apparently National Picnic Week. I wonder who dreamed that one up? The manufacturers of ready-to-eat cold meats and salads and Tupperware?

grumppa Sun 16-Jun-13 08:29:00

At the moment it feels like National Hayfever Week.

Good morning everyone, this is a happy thread - so no grumbling please, only about the weather! Yes! it's Father's Day (not Fathering Sunday, as opposed to Mothering Sunday!) Start the day right, I think the sun might shine, our son is treating us to lunch, and friends will join us for that. So enjoy your day.

Bez Sun 16-Jun-13 09:11:51

Good morning everyone - dull here but not (yet) raining. Think it will be a quiet day for us - Enjoy your day whatever you do.

glorious sunny day in Fife sunshine

Just off to my great-nephew's christening. Poignant, because the last time I was in this church was for my sister's funeral. On the plus side, we know if she had still been around she would have been fussing and bossing to make sure her little great-grandson was being feted in style, and woe betide any of us who didn't notice how much like her he looks! (Indeed, he does!) [smile)

Good morning.

It's beautifully sunny with a light breeze. Just been out to check on a friend's chickens while she's in the UK, and to collect the eggs of course!
Took photos of a superb field of poppies on my way there. A wonderful sight. smile

Ella46 Sun 16-Jun-13 10:22:02

No sook, I was up early but the papers got in the way!
sunshine here and a fairly good forecast so enjoy it while we can.

Wish my dad was here too.

annodomini Sun 16-Jun-13 10:43:53

Yes, sook, I was. I woke quite early, finished the book I was reading and then fell asleep again. Woke up, feeling dopier than ever, at 9.45. A bucket of tea later, I feel almost ready to face the world. hmm

Sook Sun 16-Jun-13 10:46:28

Ella grin

Butty hope you will post your poppy pics. I had a lovely display of Oriental poppies in my garden until the torrential rain on Friday trashed them, I could cry sad as they were so beautiful. I just wish I had taken some pics.

Butty Sun 16-Jun-13 12:34:57

sook Tried and failed unfortunately. Will try again this evening. The poppies are stunning.

harrigran Sun 16-Jun-13 12:36:29

Cloudy and coolish here in north east. There will be a lot of old vehicles on the roads of County Durham today, leaving and returning to Beamish museum. My uncle used to take his Bedford lorry to the rallies, first registered in 1953 and used regularly until his death a few years ago.

soop Sun 16-Jun-13 13:34:54

A beautiful sunny day in bonnie Kintyre.
Have just seen the new fawn. Will try to take a photo very soon. Also saw a Jay perching close by. An extremely handsome bird.
Looking forward to watching the final at Queen's. Rooting for Andy.
Small bag packed for trip into hospital. Take good care of yourselves. I shall be back just as soon as I can. smile

Ella46 Sun 16-Jun-13 14:11:46

Will Bags be keeping us in the loop?

All the best Soop, take care xx
Oooops, nearly forgot, it`s been a sunny day here so far, not awfully warm though. Hubby`s received 2 t-shirts, £30 in cash, and a bottle of beer for Father`s Day.

Anne09 Sun 16-Jun-13 18:01:20

I wish my dad and father law were still alive. Miss them so much. Even my husband wasn't here for our grandsons. I really miss my dad and fathers law . But I wish to mention my son in law as baby dexter should have been here to give him his first Father's Day card. It would be his first birthday on this Friday 21st June. So love to all fathers out there . Anne 09sad

annodomini Sun 16-Jun-13 18:18:12

Good luck, soop. Will be thinking of you and hope you emerge a new woman. flowers

soop I heard from my son this evening, and he is absolutely delighted with Lucy! He sends his thanks and good wishes. I add mine, too. xx
