I went to see Ken Dodd years ago thinking that he wouldn't be around for much longer [big mistake on both counts; escaped at the interval]. There were an awful lot of oldies playing over the weekend. Is Nick Cave morphing into Max Wall??

Oldgreymare Mon 01-Jul-13 11:14:43

No. 1 son tells me there is an 'inverted bucket list'....... people to see before 'they' kick the bucket!!!!smile

Marelli Mon 01-Jul-13 09:11:45

Frank, thank you for that. I was at high school then, too. It was the first Stones record I bought and I used to drive my mother mad playing it over and over again on the RADIOGRAM, which I was allowed to have in my bedroom....! Aah - memories! smile

Have you all seen them do Jumpin Jack Flash? Think they've realised it was a huge faux pas not letting joe public see the first part of the set and now they're allowing it to be shown. Mumfords were brilliant though [I'm biased]

Oh! They so young then! And so fresh faced. smile

Brian Jones was still with them then. sad

Thank you Frank. smile

I have got Talk Talk TV and got the Rolling stones back on that:

This is the tune I remember most.

I was at secondary school at the time with my future wife.

I've never heard of Mumford and Sons but I'll give them a go.

Marelli Sun 30-Jun-13 21:48:40

Oh, I did enjoy that! smile

Marelli Sun 30-Jun-13 20:20:56

Got it, j08, thank you! Sitting here with a nice cup of tea, all prepared! Showing my age now.....grin!

Thanks for making me laugh out loud, Specki4eyes. I thought the Stones were amazing, considering, but I wanted more of the old songs. I didn't know they weren't allowed to televise all their set, no wonder I was left hanging a bit. I saw the Stones at Epsom Baths hall twice, when I was about 16, before they were famous. I had to be home by 10, so missed the last bit. I always missed the end of films in the cinema too, cos I had to catch the last bus home from Sutton to Banstead.
I enjoyed Kenny Rogers, thought he was sweet when he was interviewed afterwards too.
Primal Scream were better than the Stones.

Thanks Marelli btw. smile

j08 Sun 30-Jun-13 19:47:41

They have put it on i-player now. here

j08 Sun 30-Jun-13 19:45:59

the set list is here (scroll down a bit)

They started off on tv with Miss You. So the songs above that, we didn't get!

Tegan Sun 30-Jun-13 19:28:49

One of my workmates is there at the moment. I'll get the inside info from her when she gets back as to what the atmosphere was like. There are some very dreary acts on this weekend; I've just been watching 'Daughter' who were being raved about. Of Monsters and Men seem ok. Maybe I need to stick to folk concerts and morris dancing..

j08 Sun 30-Jun-13 19:26:44

You were probably underwhelmed because the BBC were not allowed to show all of it. At first they only wanted four songs to be shown on tv. Apparently they wanted to perform for the crowd. Not to make a tv show.

Have the Stones got any reason to hate the BBC? confused

specki4eyes Sun 30-Jun-13 19:15:24

I watched for about half an hour and got bored. (Head duck!) No they kind of maundered on - seemingly having forgotten the words to Sympathy for the Devil (my favourite Stones song). Mick and Keith looked like they'd just risen from the mortuary slab; don't know who the posey geezer was with the guitar who kept pouting at Keith. Then Mick started stripping off - I shouted NO! you already look like a praying mantis! Keep your clothes on! Then Mick started doing that thing where he puts the mike into the audience, so he doesn't have to sing. This morning all the gushing tributes were from kids who couldn't possibly have seen them in the 60s 70s! Go back to your mansions boys!

Tegan Sun 30-Jun-13 18:38:13

I'm currently watching Tom Odell who looks about 12 confused. I may have to switch back to Kenny Rogers to feel young again, or watch Brucie [who might make me feel even younger wink]...

Marelli Sun 30-Jun-13 18:37:36

j08, BBC2, Friday at 11.05pm: Stones, Arctic Monkeys and Mumford and Sons. Maybe not the whole performance, but better than nothing. smile

j08 Sun 30-Jun-13 16:27:51

Apparently Sunday afternoon is old fogies' time. Kenny Rogers is on now.

j08 Sun 30-Jun-13 16:24:05

Marelli I bet Mick J won't let if go on I-player. He would n' t even let the beeb show all of it on tv . We did n' t get all of it.

Tegan Sun 30-Jun-13 16:20:25

I noticed that when I was checking out who was playing when last week, but then thought it was a figment of my imagination. This could be the start of a whole new career for him [like Rolf Harris touring the uni's a few years back].
