Sometimes life works out

Today I have signed the documents to rent an unfurnished house for the next couple of years. It has a room that will be a perfect study/office for me when I am working, a large/lounge diner that is very light and airy, an okay kitchen (I have plans) plus a spare bedroom where grandchildren can have sleepovers. But that is not all. It is less than 5 minutes walk from the primary school that three grandchildren attend, about 7 minutes walk from the little one's nursery (I pick them up on foot on Mondays and Fridays) and 5 minutes from the shopping area. How good is that?

Nice carpets, nice curtains and neutral decoration, plus a garden where I can grow veggies, as well as looking after the established plants and a lawn where the children can play.

Isn't it good when you fall on your feet - even if you don't deserve it?

Don't deserve it! Are you mad, woman?? Nobody deserves it more. You have taken a huge leap in the dark and gone, literally, half- way round the world to be helpful to your family. It took a lot of courage for you both and I am so glad that it has worked out well (I won't say 'I told you so....' but....). [sun]

Of course you deserve it! It sounds ideal and I am very envious of you being so close to the grandchildren, mine are 3 hours away. But right now I have a small bundle of fluff (our new retreiver puppy) asleep across my foot, so all feels pretty right with my world too.

That sounds absolutely ideal, and as for deserving it.........you've worked very hard to get there and it's fantastic for all of you!

Sounds just right absent - enjoy wine

Butty Mon 01-Jul-13 07:28:10

Delighted for you absent. Knock that 'non-deserving' bit on the head. smile

Granny23 Mon 01-Jul-13 07:31:17

What has deserving got to do with anything? Plenty of unlucky people don't get even what's reasonable, never mind what they deserve for hard work.

Enjoy your good luck, absent! Oh, and be proud of your organisational skills too.

Pleased for you smile

Good news absent you will soon make that house your home! smile

baubles Mon 01-Jul-13 08:23:31

That is wonderful news absent, I'm so pleased things have worked out well for you.

It's got nothing to do with deserving either, if everyone got what they 'deserved' the world would be a very different place.

sunshine & flowers for you, enjoy those grandchildren smile

Bez Mon 01-Jul-13 08:34:35

That sounds such a good spot you have picked - when do you move in?

moomin Mon 01-Jul-13 08:42:37

Hope you will be celebrating with lots of NZ winewine
smile

Grannyknot Mon 01-Jul-13 08:56:54

smile it sounds perfect.

Marelli Mon 01-Jul-13 09:00:40

I'm glad for you, absent. When things work out, it's usually because we've tried so hard to make it that way. Your DGC's will love to have you where you are, so get stuck in to the veggie growing and get even more satisfaction from your new abode - even when the newly-arrived moggies start digging up your brassicas smile!

annodomini Mon 01-Jul-13 09:14:16

Sounds marvellous, absent. Of course you deserve to fall on your feet and won't it be a great introduction to NZ for your cats. smile

glammanana Mon 01-Jul-13 10:29:23

I'm so glad everything is falling into place for you and you are so near the little ones, think of the TV advert sweetie when it states "because I'm worth it" and go from there.smile

grannyactivist Mon 01-Jul-13 13:10:13

absent it's surprising how often 'good luck' accompanies hard work, good organisational skills and perseverance. grin

Ariadne Mon 01-Jul-13 17:25:00

If anyone deserves it, absent it is you! I am so happy to hear all this, and send you (hugs) flowers wine

HildaW Mon 01-Jul-13 19:51:00

absent..am very happy for you!

P.S. about luck, seem to remember reading up about luck. Psychologists reckon that so called 'lucky people' get no more breaks than the average person, its just they have a 'glass half full' mentality and seem to be able to forget more of the negative events in their lives.

P.S.S. saw a sign in a shop today (honest)
it went something along the lines of....

'All that worrying does work, 99 % of all the stuff I've been worrying about did not happen!'

glass The goods and chattels - what exactly is a chattel? - are due in Nelson Port on 12 July. I haven't yet checked whether the ship is on schedule. It can then take a couple of weeks or more for unloading and customs clearance, so we are reckoning on moving in at the end of this month. [fingers crossed emoticon]

I am arranging for the cats to travel at the beginning of August. They then will then have to do 10 days quarantine in Christchurch in a rather more luxurious cattery than their present feline boot camp, before we can collect them and taken them to their new home.

Today, I am going on a spree to buy a fridge and freezer - I have already got the shop to reduce the price by $200 for the pair - and a kitchen bin. Be still my beating heart! grin
