Siesta time

Anyone else falling asleep in the heat of these hot afternoon? Seems to make sense when that's what they do in hot climates.

I was awake and out in the cool of the early morning at 5am and have just had a lovely snooze! Now going to watch Le Tour and see those magnificent cyclists in the Alps.

Having spent part of my childhood in the Far East in this weather I have recourse to the hot weather patterns I remember from then. I am up and about my business by 6.00am, daily walk and anything requiring physical effort completed before 8.00am and I then retreat inside to the cool for most of the day, going outside again after 6.00pm to do the gardening and watering. In between, not sleep but certainly cool sedentary work.

I wonder how people in hot countries work in this heat! Air con must be good!

All outdoor jobs are done by lunchtime and not much else until it's time to water in the evening. I did manage to get the winter king size duvet washed in the bath and dried on the line yesterday. It's usually a two day job with the bath out of bounds while it drips off a clothes airer overnight. It can now be vac-packed and put away until October.

Hot weather or not a ten minute (or more) snooze after lunch is the order of the day in this house, unless of course we have to be out somewhere, but then of course we do not have time to relax with a cup of tea, always a mistake after lunch.

Oh, I do enjoy my afternoon siesta! I don't always sleep, but feel very relaxed afterwards. Trouble is, I never feel like doing much afterwards in this weather, until it's time for a wander along the beach or something. After the ** watering, of course!

It is a good idea to start early and hide from the sun, and yes I do sometimes take a snooze siesta. Why does a siesta sounds so much more acceptable than a snooze.?

Merlotgran. Why don't you have duvets dry cleaned, sooo much easier.
Or if you want them washed, let the launderette do it. It's the same price where I live.

well what do you know, this exact topic was also being discussed in another forum i pass through - of a rather different demographic also - i find that comforting. as for the topic - mad dogs and englishmen, i loved it while it lasted. perhaps a worthwhile topic for debate if we didnt live somewhere a weeks' worth of sun remains such a turn up for the books

While I love being back in UK I miss my afternoon routine when living in the sun for all those years,I'd be at work from 6.30 finish at 1 o'clock and strool home for a swim and then an hour in the shade wrapped in a damp towel absolute heavenly the best part was the ruling of no pool use between 2-4pm which gave all the residents the chance to have their siesta.

Most natives of most hot countries don't have access to air con, Ticktock. They are born and brought up in hotter conditions than we know and are accustomed to them. As an expat teacher, in a school that couldn't afford the luxury of air con, I learnt to pace myself in hot weather, to seek the shade and, if I could manage it, have a little nap (under a tree!) before afternoon classes. I liked it and could cope well when I was young - not sure if I could do that now.

We seem to be having an awful lot of siesta time recently, starts at about 1.30 and lasts until 4 - although I am usually reading a book.

Well I'm to bed! Had a lovely lunch with Angel next door! We went to a mezzo restaurant that has recently opened. It was very good.
