Do you object to the union flag, Frank? Are you an English nationalist?

Gally Tue 23-Jul-13 09:30:20

I love to see the British showing allegiance and pride in their country. I have the Union Flag as well as the Saltire which I use depending on what occasion and also the Australian flag which I drape out of my upstairs windows when the family arrive on rare visits from the Antipodes. Nothing wrong with a bit of pride - you are so stuffy Frank wink

Why is this history? Just another prospective king.
A girl would have been history.

DH said earlier "What's the bets Tesco is all decked out"

Going later, I'll let you know grin

I will probably pass several houses on the way displaying flags. Whatever flloats their boat !!

Aren't there rules about when flags may be flown? But probably not about being draped over hedges.

Movedalot Tue 23-Jul-13 11:18:15

I'm with jane on this. Let's look for things to enjoy rather than things to moan about. We are lucky to live in such a great country!

glammanana Tue 23-Jul-13 11:52:41

Oh dear Frank are they lowering the tone of the area how awful of them, have you complained yet ? maybe they enjoy the showing of their alligence to the Monarchy.crown
My flag has been outside since yesterday and drawn many comments none of which have been negative crown

Quite right to celebrate a royal baby. When I was born my father and elder sister placed a union jack on top of the Anderson shelter, it alerted the neighbours to the fact that I had arrived .... at last smile

Well done your dad harri crown

I would not have a Union flag in/on my house but I fly the Saltire on a daily basis. I sent my Saltire to Barra with the DGC who were flying in, so that as the ferry turned into Castlebay, we could see it (pegged out on the washing line!) at 'our' house and 3 small figures, in their pyjamas, doing star jumps and waving like mad until we docked.

Flags are powerful symbols.

janeainsworth Tue 23-Jul-13 12:18:50

Yes Moved I agree, we are very lucky, compared to many other countries crown

vampirequeen Tue 23-Jul-13 12:32:24

I don't see the point of flags in gardens but I would like to see more made of them on public buildings. I recently saw a town hall in France that had three flags flying......the EU flag, the French flag, and the local flag. I liked the way it celebrated local, national and international pride.

whatsgoingon Tue 23-Jul-13 14:53:37

If I had a choice of our wonderful flag draped over someone's hedge or a grubby mattress thrown in the garden I know what I would choose.
And it certainly beats the houses that are covered in Christmas decorations at the start of October . !

gracesmum Tue 23-Jul-13 14:56:04

Must be Sutton Coldfield thing, not what you would see in our vilage crown

Galen Tue 23-Jul-13 15:05:02

One of my neighbours has a permanent flagpole. She flies the union and St. George's flags whenever her our mp is visiting. I noticed it was flying this morning.crown

My grandfather always used to hang out a Canadian flag (he was born in Canada) and a Red Ensign (a lot of the family were merchant seamen) for special occasions. We only gave up when the flags got moth eaten.

In Italy all the public buildings fly flags, even in the smallest towns vampirequeen always the Italian flag and usually the EU flag. A peace flag will often be included as well. If it's a special occasion like Liberation Day then it is multiplied 10 fold.

Grannyknot Tue 23-Jul-13 16:05:25

Hivampirequeen I wondered what had happened to you ...smile
