Rain!

Our local schools break up in about 45 minutes for the summer and the heavens have just opened! The thunder is rumbling around with the occasional crack to make you jump and the garden is soaking up the rain like a sponge. I am sure it will clear up for the school holidays, but honestly........! Only problem is getting Grace back from kennels this morning as Ishe is frightened of thunder and it's a 15 minute drive deep into Salcey Forest shock

Terrific thunder storm here last night. Around 3 a.m. a crack of thunder was so loud the vibration caused a radio to fall off its shelf! Frightened me to death! At first I thought someone was trying to break in but then I realised no one in their right minds would be out in that rain

Amazing electric storm here around midnight. No rain, just incredibly bright sheet lightening and thunder that shook the house.

granjura Tue 23-Jul-13 12:41:25

Massive storm here in Switzerland too, tons of rain and hale, thunder, lightening- just been to put car in garage to protect from hale damage and had to go and get changed - less than 1 minute out and I was soaked to the skin. Dog trying to get under my t-shirt now ... a big girls and wearing a collar as she has a poorly paw.

Zilch in South Oxfordshire, we have a had a few distance rumbles and a few spots of rain and that's it!

Maniac Tue 23-Jul-13 18:13:43

Didn't see or hear the storm sunseeker described but was certainly glad to see the soil was well soaked -one job less to do this morning.Temperature and sun back to 'hot' most of the day.

A house about 15 miles away as crow flies was burt out by a lightning strike early hours of this morning.

The storm started about 2 am and rumbled on till about 5 am. We've had a couple of showers today.

Ariadne Tue 23-Jul-13 18:19:54

Still dry. I may have to water tonight, or send Theseus out there...

JessM Tue 23-Jul-13 19:07:31

Very disappointed that thundery shower only lasted about 5 mins. Just dampened the ground while most gurgled down the drains. Garden really would like a solid downpour for an hour, please...

Gally Tue 23-Jul-13 19:31:08

You can have some of ours Jess. It's been chucking it down on and off all day. The plants are loving it and looking very perky wink

Brendawymms Tue 23-Jul-13 22:24:17

In my part of East Sussex we have had about an egg cup of rain and a distant rumble of thunder whilst a few miles away they had an enormous storm. Very local. I love thunder and lightning so feel hard done by.

Granny23 Wed 24-Jul-13 00:42:26

As you know Gally we are not a million miles away from you but have only had two, two minute heavy showers and distant rumbling of thunder today. Must be very localised.

Charleygirl Wed 24-Jul-13 10:39:13

It is very localised in London because a friend who lives a couple of miles away has not had to water her garden for days because of the torrential downpours whereas there has been very little water here. Loud rumblings of thunder, zilch else.

At last, its rained! heavily all last night

Ariadne Thu 25-Jul-13 09:19:42

Yes, it has finally rained here, and the smell of wet grass and flowers is beautifully refreshing.

nanaej Thu 25-Jul-13 09:46:07

We too had a heavy downpour in the night!Pity my DD left the buggy outside hmm!

Gally Thu 25-Jul-13 15:36:09

It's been raining here most of the time since Tuesday afternoon; becoming a little tedious but the sun is making a bit of an effort between downpours. At least I can get on with a bit of housework, cooking and preparation for the family invasion tomorrow without feeling I should be outside prostrating myself on a sunbed, Pimm's in hand grin

mollynellie Thu 25-Jul-13 23:28:18

Thunder, lightning and downpours here in Armagh but it's still 15 degrees at 11.30pm. Gonna be hard to sleep tonight again. hmm

Granny23 Fri 26-Jul-13 15:20:13

Having an 'interesting' day today with Thunder, Lightening, Hail and bright sunshine all mixed up. 28c last time I looked. I have been attempting to harvest fruit/veg and collect flowers/foliage for wedding tomorrow, been soaked and scorched alternately but I am Calm, calm, c-a-l-m, c--a--l--m.

My daughter arrived yesterday at a holiday cottage in the Peak District. At midnight she and her family were flooded out!

Nonu Sun 28-Jul-13 21:09:19

OH No Brenda, how are things now ? Sorted ?

Have they got children with them ?

Brendawymms Mon 29-Jul-13 07:38:42

Yes three children the youngest just three. One inch of water in bathroom and one bedroom. Worried about mould as rooms dry out. The cottage company 'may' have another cottage for them today but no one seems to have agreed to re-home them yesterday. Not good. Cottage being dried out and carpet cleaners in today, Monday, but also no mention of a reduction of cost of staying there. Not good.
Their car also needs attention so can't just come home.
She says the cottage has a wonderful view!

Aka Mon 29-Jul-13 07:44:50

I know it's peak season but the company surely cannot expect them to stay in a damp house. They ought to be rehoused.
