Okay!!! The messages from so many lovely people have gone to my heart. My head has been over-ruled.

soop's kitchen is a cosy place. You lot are invited to drop in for a wee chat on whatever matter moves you.

Rory welcomes you with a purr. xxx

Oh heck! It sounds like we are all falling apart.
My now diagnosed shoulder impingement problems are twinging like hell, and that is after doing a little bit of cooking. Anything much I do including typing sets them off later in the day and about 4am in the morning when I have to get up and dangle my arms to relieve the pressure and stop the bony bits from scraping on the tendon.

*lizG" Stick with it! I started singing about 6 yrs ago in my late 50s after never doing it at all. I have got better at breathing getting a note and being able to get abetter tone when I am singing . I really enjoy it.

I hope all others get some relief from aches and pains and bits of body that go creak in the night.

Well...what to say...where to start...
For all poorly GN's I send get well soon messages.
Grannyeggs Celebgran Ariadne Anno Gally thatbags flowers smile brew cupcake and a nice comfortable seat with plumped up cushions. Rory will decide on which lap to nestle wink

This is possibly one of my last visits to the kitchen until mid-next-week. I'm finishing off the umpteen jobs that I feel are absolutely necessary [but in fact, aren't] in readiness for the trip into England and a gathering at my middle son's home in Oakham, Rutland.

Very soon it will be middle son's 50th birthday. Our granddaughter's 21st birthday and our silver wedding anniversary also fall on the same day. Another granddaughter accepted her partner's proposal of marriage and is newly "engaged". My youngest son will be driving from London with the wee man. ALL the grandchildren are to join in the celebrations. We have several bottles of Champagne. There will much cork-popping, laughter and hugging. grin

Our good friends are house sitting and minding Rory. We shall miss him...VERY MUCH.

I hope that you'll enjoy each other's company in my absence. There are plenty of goodies to share.

I'm such a silly old bat. Would you believe that, as I type, I've watery eyeballs!!!

moomin Wed 18-Sept-13 12:01:35

Chocolate fudge cake!!! anno which drawer are the forks in? Been shopping this morning and need to take the weight off as they say.

annodomini Wed 18-Sept-13 11:57:53

I'll help, Ariadne. Quick! hand me a fork, please!

Ariadne Wed 18-Sept-13 11:03:59

I have brought a freshly baked chocolate fudge cake, and would be very grateful if you'd help me eat it - quickly! We're off to Cheltenham on Friday to look after our two DGDs and I have to take a chocolate cake. But I made two.

Have to sit down now, so I'll sat a while if I may.

Cari - the lemon flan was absolutely delicious. Did you post the recipe?

annodomini Wed 18-Sept-13 10:33:37

Let me add swollen and painful Achilles tendons to the mix. I've just left the car for its MoT and walked down to the Post Office and back via Waitrose - about a mile in all. And I almost did the last bit on my knees - but I would never have got back on my feet. I need a refreshing brew of redbush and who was offering thick toast?
#old crock

kittylester Wed 18-Sept-13 09:43:42

Lovely, thank you Cari. I'm just hiding in here for a while until I make a start on the ironing. Where, exactly, does it come from? confused

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 18-Sept-13 09:40:12

(and yes "mysdignature" bake is a technical term)

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 18-Sept-13 09:39:42

Belatedly..

Ariadne - Finger in my flan??? (And more importantly - when you licked it did it taste good? It's mysdignature bake grin)

And kittylester - yes worry not. Am expert in GF baking as DD allergic to wheat. So tuck in and enjoy!

Ariadne Wed 18-Sept-13 09:25:12

soop the lateral joint on the left knee has severe osteoarthritis, but we are trying to postpone operating for a while. So I'm going to get my cataracts sorted first! #fallingapartattheseams.

Lona Wed 18-Sept-13 09:17:07

Just called in for a coffee, as I've been babysitting this morning for an hour, while ds & ddil went to school for a meeting.
It's only been 10 days since I saw my dgd, nearly two, and she has 'almost' conversations with me and lots of facial expressions, which are priceless!

Toasting doorstops of freshly baked bread for anyone who's interested?

Oldgreymare Wed 18-Sept-13 09:03:21

Come in for a warm up and cake (being cold makes me hungry!) Some warm buttery toast would be nicer, perhaps.
Autumn seems NOT to be a good time for bugs or bones, have brought some flowers for all the poorly ones.

Gally Tue 17-Sept-13 19:30:02

Celebgran Ariadne flowers.
Oh what a lot we are with all our coughs and sneezes not to mention blood pressure, bowels, sore hips, dodgy knees and everything in between ! shock. So good that we all have each other for support smile

LizG Tue 17-Sept-13 19:26:01

Oh dear Celebgran sorry to hear you are feeling so poorly. Hope they sort you out very soon meanwhile spoil yourself and keep warm. To everyone feeling poorly, I hope you all feel better soon. flowers

celebgran Tue 17-Sept-13 19:05:36

Hope you feel better soon gally.

I ami. Shock really went doctor about my breathless thing which makes difficult have sit down after one dance and that struggle. Got have chest X-ray Tom and echocardiogram think that's right Monday and blood tests he took b pressure very high and did not seem happy with chest oh hell!

Only been this bad last few weeks

moomin Tue 17-Sept-13 18:11:36

Get well soon Gally hope the antibiotics kick in soon. Hope Bags has got her appetite back - those Bara Brith look inviting!

We have plenty of Bramleys ready and ripe to pick - have brought some along for anyone who would like some to make crumbles or pies.

Just had a glass of wine and must now pop into the real kitchen and start making the evening meal.

Grannyeggs Tue 17-Sept-13 17:35:36

Gally take care. soop I have come into you kitchen to keep warm and have a brew. I have been to the doctor today as I woke up this morning with a bright red eye, so have drops for that and anti biotics for an infected toe, caused by an in growing toenail. They both make me feel that I am going rotten in my head and feet, so far the bit in the middle is ok! flowers for all Gnetters who are feeling a bit poorly today. I have bought some brownies to have with our brew

soop Tue 17-Sept-13 17:28:22

Gally Do as the doctor says. What's this about Bags? I shall text her.

Gally Tue 17-Sept-13 17:10:35

I hope you haven't been over doing it soop? You don't want to be so exhausted that you can't enjoy your trip.
After nearly 3 weeks of tight chest and horrible cough, I finally succumbed and managed to get an emergency Doc's appointment this afternoon. I have a 'nasty' chest infection and am on antibiotics. I think my get up and go has got up and gone. On the upside, it does mean that I am sitting/lying down and catching up on a load of reading. Must be the time of year, it sounds as if Bags isn't too well either.

soop Tue 17-Sept-13 16:51:19

Lona...yes please. I've just seen that you have provided a generous batch of Bara Brith. I love it with thickly spread butter. Your friend will have enjoyed your company.

Ariadne Sorry to hear that you'll be having cortisone injections. What exactly is wrong with your knee?

soop Tue 17-Sept-13 16:46:53

Granny23 your post made me chuckle. Long ago, when Rory was known as the unapproachable cat, he was most definitely not going to come into our home [Mr soop's words]...well, as I said, that was long ago. Mr soop checks where Rory is from breakfast to bedtime. It's not as if Rory goes on endless hikes. Oh no, he shadows Mr soop from room to room. When Mr soop goes to check the mail box, Rory follows. When he goes to the shed for whatever, Rory accompanies him. He [Mr soop] is about to roast a chicken. It is for Rory to enjoy during our brief absence. Need I say more? wink

I'm well and truly bushed. Climbing up and down a ladder in order to wipe the tops of cupboards and moving many, many books from shelves and ironing all the clobber [from which I shall select just two outfits for the trip] has taken its toll. I'm in need of a brew. I could even be tempted to a slice of something wickedly sticky and sweet. thatbags has hinted that she may bake some date slices for when we next meet. How special is that! grin

Ariadne Tue 17-Sept-13 16:44:19

Oh, I do like Danish butter! And I've never had any Bara Brith, so can I taste some, please? have just had an orthopaedic assessment on my knee, and am going first for cortisone injections. Mmmm.

Lona Tue 17-Sept-13 16:39:51

granny23 grin

I've been trying to get in here all day for a comforting cuppa, and now look at the time!
I've brought some Bara Brith from Wales, so I'll spread lots of Lurpak on some, Thatbags likes it as well as me, and everyone help themselves.

I had a lovely weekend with my friend and her ds and dil, and today she went for her first 'chemo', which only took an hour, so she is much relieved and so am I.

Can I have another cuppa please?

Granny23 Tue 17-Sept-13 14:00:52

Poor Rory, I'll sit quietly with him for a bit to let you get on.

We have been catless for some years now, thought it best not to introduce a new cat into the family when the DGC were still crawling and toddling. We have had two cats - a very fluffy black and white one and a tortoiseshell with only three legs - visiting the garden over the summer. B & W has spent endless fruitless hours watching the giant hosta. We know that a family of tiny mice have made their home there and occasionally pop out to fetch some bird seed. But it was Hopalong, the tortoiseshell cat, who boldly walked into the kitchen yesterday and stood mewling by the fridge until DH (an inveterate cat man) succumbed and poured a bowl of milk which was gratefully received.

DH was so delighted, mainly because it allowed him to quote a neighbour when a similar thing happened some years ago 'I was not really looking to have a cat, but you would think I could at least have had a whole one'. grin

soop Tue 17-Sept-13 13:29:31

An early good afternoon to everyone. I've been in the dentist's chair...scaling and polishing...teeth aren't too bad, considering their age wink
The weather is still grey but I can just see the outline of the islands, so the sea mist is lifting.
A deer came to the garden fence this morning. The trees in the forest are beginning to lose their leaves and we shall need to start the daily sweep-up of our pathways.
Rory had a "funny turn" about an hour ago. I rest my hand firmly on the top of his head and it seems to comfort him. Facebook has a page devoted to FHS [the syndrome from which he suffers] and, although no one knows of a cure, we do share our cats experiences.
I'm going away to attend to the laundry - again. After which, I'm going to empty and tidy the bookshelves. We have an abundancy of books.
Regarding the knicker nicker who nicked my knickers [in the 1960's]...he was a copper. hmm shock
I shall be back for a brew and nice sticky cupcake a little later.
