'Lost generation’: why can’t young people get jobs? What should be done?
Okay!!! The messages from so many lovely people have gone to my heart. My head has been over-ruled.
soop's kitchen is a cosy place. You lot are invited to drop in for a wee chat on whatever matter moves you.
Rory welcomes you with a purr. xxx
That does sound good but I am on 500calories today.
Gally, I love the sound of red pepper soup, is it made solely from peppers? Good luck with the flower arranging.
Gally - good luck with the flower arrangement.....the rain we're having tonight will cover the roses lightly with raindrops (not bruising the petals at all
). The sun might just shine for you tomorrow!

Just popped in again to check all is well - the warm welcome is still here and the kitchen is overflowing with folk and goodies. Nice to have a cuppa and a quiet sit down. I've spent the last 2 days collecting DGD1 from school @ 12 noon and having her to myself until 17.00 when DGD2 arrived from nursery. It has been an absolute pleasure, if somewhat exhausting and I have loved every minute. DGD1 has just turned 4 going on 24 and DGD2 has just turned 2 going on 22 but they are a delight and I feel very blessed.
Sorry to hear about your house soop but maybe it is for the best - there is a reason for everything and you and Mr Soop are very happy there with Rory - long may it continue.
Gally My DH loves red pepper soup - is there a recipe to be had?
Lots of rain this neck of the woods today - hopefully a bit better tomorrow.
Hi Soop I've not been in the neighbourhood for a while, but have popped in today, will just sit quietly sipping at something and taking it all in. We never did make a decision about Scotland.
for opening your kitchen.
Good morning Grannynot, I have just popped in for a quick coffee. It is so very welcoming in here but I have yet to meet Rory, perhaps he can smell my dog and doesn't want to hang around. Aaahhh coffee
I'm just making some tea and toast, help yourselves
This is a nice peaceful place to be, lets hope that feeling spreads across the threads [fingerscrossed]
My knee is fine today [phew], and I'm out for lunch with my friend. I'm on a 'seefood' diet!
lona, "seefood" diet. Like it!
Morning all! Just popped in while waiting for the washing machine to finish. Sun shining so hopefully will dry.
Gally good luck with the flower arranging!
Lona like you, I adore these peaceful places. Nice and warming and I feel right at home.
This evening I am out with a friend, on my own without hubby for support! (Long story, some of you know it) we are going to see the Kast off Kinks. That is the Kinks but without either of the Davies brothers!! I am looking forward to it
Red Pepper 'Soop'.
3 large red peppers, 1 clove garlic, 1 sweet potato,1 onion, 1 lge tsp green Thai curry paste, vegetable stock. Chop everything which needs to be chopped, sweat in small amount of butter until soft, stir in curry paste then add enough stock to suit. When cooked, whizz and then sieve - bingo!
Took all my entries up to the hall this morning (having had a quick shoofty at the opposition before deciding whether mine were ok!). Back after 2 for the results and I am apparently running a produce stall - news to me!
Hello to you lovely lot. It's very comforting to find you in the kitchen. The cooking smells are wonderful. Fresh coffee brewing [or whatever it does] and as for the vast array of home-baked goodies...I'm lost for words.
that bags We had a special sky again last night. I took umpteen photos. Later today I shall put a few in my album.
Lona I'm pleased to hear that your knee is much less painful. Enjoy time with your friend.
Zengran I used to like the Kinks. Have a few tapes somewhere.
mrshat the pleasure that you enjoy when with your grandchildren is infectious.
Very soon we'll be with ALL our seven grandchildren as we meet for the annual gathering. The youngest is three and a bit and the eldest is twenty four. So proud of each and every one of them.
Just popped in for a quick coffee - picked the plums this morning and I have a lot of apples and tomatoes also to 'deal with'. Think I will start with a sponge with plums in - will make one for this kitchen also and will make sure I add a spot of brandy or similar.!
Had a very enjoyable lunch with my friend, a starter each with a small dish of chunky chips to share, just enough.
Time for afternoon tea now.................. I've brought a deliciously fresh tasting, lemon tart and a jug of cream, I'll put the kettle on again!
soop I love to see so many your beautiful sunsets, you can't possibly leave that idyllic place
Taking a break from trying to set my kitchen back to rights.
I'm not sure the cupboards will take everything that came out of them?
Very odd! Has anyone else noted this phenomenon?
I've gone mad and after 20years of use decided that my circulon pans have had it! Ordered new ones, but
How does one recycle the old ones? They're still useable but!
Also what can I do with stewed prunes that keeps and isn't fattening?
Kitchen gear expands to over-flow the space allotted to it. Unused appliances breed at the backs of cupboards, How else can they fill in the time they spend waiting to be put into service again? It is best to keep then busy and out of mischief.
The "fresh start" schemes, run by churches in many towns for people who are starting off or staring again with nothing, are in need of sturdy pans with some life left in them.
Use 3 or 4 of the stewed prunes in some cock-a-leekie soup (recipes in food section). Donate the rest to a constipated friend?
Galen Stewed prunes keep for ages in the fridge.
I put them in the microwave in a Pyrex dish with equal quantities of dried apricots, a dash of vanilla essence and cover them with cold tea. Microwave on medium for 10 minutes, allow to cool and top up the liquid with orange juice (nice sort like tropicana).
For breakfast I soak about 2 tablespoons porage oats in milk for half an hour, then add 3 or 4 pieces of fruit and some liquid, and a dollop of Greek yoghurt.
Not exactly calorie free but very sustaining - I have a mid-morning cup of tea but can easily last till lunchtime without snacking !
The fruit keeps for ages, and you can keep topping up the orange juice as needed. I left some in the fridge while we were away for a fortnight and it was perfectly ok when I got back, and lasted for several days after that.
Galen advertise your pans on Freecycle (known as Freegle in some areas). Someone will need them.
Just noticed I put prunes, iPad moment they're plums! I have surfeit as well.
Galen after all my effort laboriously typing the recipe on my phone you'd better not tell me you don't like prunes!!
I LOVE prunes!
(Have to say that don't I? Trembling in fear, you all know how terrifying dentists can be!)
Galen places like the local Women's Refuge, or furniture and household items stores for families in need of support to set up home, would be glad of your pans.
When we moved, a lot of unwanted stuff went to Emmaeus.
Well, let's have some of Lona's lemon tart, eh? Isn't it amazing how the food in your kitchen stretches to feed us ll, soop? Must be Celtic magic..
It's amazing how much we talk about food too!
While we're busy talking about it, we can't be eating it!(not polite to talk with mouth full) much less fattening!
