Seriously I think what the OP is doing is great.
My MiL lives in sheltered accommodation in Cambridge - a small 2bedroom flat in a low-rise complex. She was an early adopter (in 1972) of the present Government's wheeze to move older people into smaller properties to free up the family homes for young families, do being widowed, she did this at the age of 50.
Anyway they have coffee mornings once a month and particularly as she has got older she absolutely loves them. The residents all get to know each other and look out for one another.
So well done Overthehill

I would love to attend any GN meet-ups - but it is a bit far to come for the afternoon! I did manage two in Manchester when I was staying with my sister but most of us were driving so we were very abstemious.

I used to be on the parents committee of DSs cub pack. We would meet every eight weeks or so taking it in turns to host the meeting at home. Trouble was we were all mums and all friends, it would be half hour of cub business and 3 hours of girly gossip and wine grin

Nothing wrong with that Greatnan! You should try and get to the next meet-up of the North-Eastern GNettersgrin

They sound like an excellent idea, overthehill - as long as they stay just tea and coffee and biscuits. I had a friend who got into a local coffee morning group in England and it gradually progressed through cake and sherry to copious amounts of wine!

When I retired last year I had in my mind to introduce a coffee afternoon among some of the neighbours.

After some problems re. setting dates to suit everyone it finally got off the ground after Christmas this year.

There are six of us with one youngster in her 40s and the rest over 60.

We all take it in turns to be the host and it last 2 hours. We hold it once a month and the host just serves tea and coffee plus biscuits.

We decide at the end who is going to do it next time and everyone brings along the dates they CANNOT do so we can make a firm booking.

It is not set in stone and if something crops up and you can't come so be it. By the same token I am taking over today because another neighbour has recently had an op.

Nothing very unusual but thought maybe an idea for others to follow.
