I totally agree with Stansgran . The most ridiculous thing I saw a few months ago was a woman trying to drink coffee under her niqab! They should be banned in this country . Shame on the college who have been forced to change their rules regarding the wearing of. niqabs .

I really struggle with a woman's right to wear a burka. Although I would like to say I support a woman's right to wear whatever she chooses, I can't reconcile this with a woman choosing to wear what is a symbol of oppression. While ever women are forced to wear such hideous garments and suffer severe punishments for transgressing this rule, how can any woman living in a free society actually embrace such a garment? It seems to me like a slap in the face to their sisters in other parts of the world.

The cartoon made me smile but that doesn't mean I think women should be prevented from wearing the burkha if they wish to. Although I generally believe it to be indicative of the oppression of women, I also recognise that in western society too women are subjected to all sorts of pressures to look and behave in certain ways.

I like J & M! And I don't think it's anti religion - just anti what's been done in the name of religion. A bit like my DD when she went into St Mark's Basilica saying in a too loud voice "My God - do do you think this is really what Jesus had in mind?"
