OK so I'm not a Grandparent and I'm only in my thirties. Can I still post or will I be thrashed within an inch of my life and forced to flee the forum?

sad

Loads of non-gran people post on here and as long as we aren't banned from sites like Mumsnet you are very welcome.Mind you, you will have to put up with grannies/granddads going off on a completely different subject then the one posted. See above. But that's what we oldies do!

Hello there, negligent! You are very welcome, and there are lots of spirited discussions on everything under the sun. smile

Greatnan a woman after my own heart. I make my porridge with skimmed milk and then add cream. None of this salt and water rubbish

Greatnan Sun 06-Oct-13 14:04:53

Almost snap, Stansgran - but I start off with half-fat milk. I add a pinch of salt, a smidgeon of cinnamon, sultanas, and bottled cherries. Who said porridge is boring?

Sorry to have missed last night's midnight feast - still coming down after Il Giovane Montalbano [sigh]
DH is a porridge purist (cooked overnight in slow oven, eaten with salt etc etc)- fortunately I am not, I like the micrwavable sort that tastes of raspberries and pomegranates (but have you seen the calorie content? Me neither!)

I'm just trying to eat a WW Moroccan tagine! Yuk! I'm throwing it away. I'll have cheese on toast instead!

glammanana Sun 06-Oct-13 14:48:16

That sounds like a good plan to me Galen is it me or do WW meals have a lot of sawdust in their ingredients grin
I enjoyed our rather quite get to-gether last night but the eyelids just wouldn't stay open. wine anyone ? thanks for the inviteabsent but I don't think the jet lag would have done me any good at all.

I have a WW veggie cookbook which has a very nice Moroccan stew - the only drawback is that it contains tofu which I consider to be a waste of space. Quorn would be better, perhaps. hmm

Greatnan Sun 06-Oct-13 15:17:14

Anno - you owe me a Moroccan stew! Next year!

Greatnan Sun 06-Oct-13 15:19:51

I found WW meals left me hungry after an hour. I would rather eat a smaller portion of a 'proper' meal. Tonight I am having strips of pork with onions in a crème fraiche and mustard sauce, well seasoned, with mashed potatoes, buttered carrots and petit pois. Somebody asked me if it is worth cooking a meal for one person - it is for this person! (I do make enough for two meals, and freeze one).

Nelliemoser Sun 06-Oct-13 15:31:39

Anno The plain Quorn fillets are pretty low in calories. They have some texture and take a marinade or well flavoured sauce very well.

annodomini Sun 06-Oct-13 15:50:51

OK, Greatnan. I'll have to bring the Quorn with me - I can't imagine they'd have it in France!

Greatnan Sun 06-Oct-13 16:06:04

You might be surprised, Anno, there is a very large bio/gluten free section in one of the bigger supermarkets. I will check if they have Quorn.

Hang on a minute. Microwavable slipper socks????? How? Where? Neeeeed

Elegran Mon 07-Oct-13 11:20:59

Just did a Google and they do seem to exist, Cari. Several versions available. Put in "microwavable slipper socks" without the inverted commas, though - if you include them you just get two links to someone's Christmas list and one back to this thread.

gracesmum Mon 07-Oct-13 11:33:46

How many calories in microwave slipper socks then? grinAnd do they taste any better than tofu? (Don't answer that - anything tastes better than tofu!)grin

harrigran Mon 07-Oct-13 11:34:29

What a great idea. When it is a freezing cold day and you can warm your socks and curl up with a book, luxury grin

<notes down microwaveable socks for DP' and DD's Christmas presents)
