My son-in-law, who was Master on the Interislander ferries between North and South Island in New Zealand, has been appointed harbourmaster/pilot of Nelson harbour. They have sold their first house at a good profit and they have bought a wonderful house with five acres of land in a beautiful area about 20 mins from the harbour. My daughter will be able to realise her dream of having horses and there will be room for an elderly relative! I can't wait to see the house in December.

Some of you may remember Lara, their daughter, who won the Love Story competition , with a little help from my friends ! She has now graduated from nursing college and is trying to decide which hospital will be best for her career, but if she chooses Nelson it will mean living away from Sam for a time. He wants to stay in Nelson for a year, as the company he works for as a manager of a large gym is paying for him to take a management course. She sold the new car that she won in another competition and once she starts earning they will soon have enough for a deposit on their first house. They are still only 21!

When they emigrated, they had plenty of people telling them they were mad- well, sucks to them, the whole family is very happy, and so am I smile

That sounds a great new job for your SiL and of course won't mean that he's working away from home. And excellent news all round. You will have a wonderful Christmas.

You have a lovely family, Greatnan. Their hard work and endeavour is beng rewarded. I know they want you with them over there in New Zealand, and having visited your beautiful mountain home, I can see why you want to stay a little longer. What a choice! smile

I think Gransnet is wonderful when we need support, encouragement, or a bit of 'tough love', but without the humour and 'good news' stories it would be heavy going. So thanks for sharing this Greatnan, I've enjoyed hearing about your family in NZ and it's encouraging to hear how we'll they're doing. My daughter in NZ isn't saying so, but I suspect she's missing family quite a lot.

What a smashing bunch you are - Lara was right when she said so in her interview after winning the Love Story competition! I agree, ga, when I have posted about my other daughter's problems, I have had so much sympathy and now so many of you have taken the trouble to share my happiness. flowers
I have tried to post this a couple of times, so if it comes up in duplicate, please blame the tech guys!
