THE SENSITIVITY OF SENIORS
This letter was sent to the Lions Bay School Principal's office in West Vancouver after the school had sponsored a luncheon for seniors. An elderly lady received a new radio at the lunch as a door raffle prize and was writing to say thank you.

This story is a credit to all humankind. Forward this to anyone you know who might need a lift today...

Dear Lions Bay School:
God bless you for the beautiful radio I won at your recent Senior Citizens luncheon.
I am 89 years old and live at the West Vancouver Home for the Aged.
All of my family has passed away so I am all alone.

I want to thank you for the kindness you have shown to a forgotten old lady.
My roommate is 95 and has always had her own radio. She would never let me listen to it.
She said it belonged to her long dead husband, and understandably, wanted to keep it safe.

The other day her radio fell off the nightstand and broke into a dozen pieces.
It was awful and she was in tears.
Later, she asked if she could listen to mine, and I was overjoyed that I could tell her to fuck off.

Thank you for that wonderful opportunity.
God bless you all.

Sincerely,
Margaret.

Having a good sense of humour is an asset. For those who don't have one, don't knock it in others. My ex partner had no sense of humour and no empathy either. Life wasn't a lot of fun with a misery guts.

'no no not the comfy chair'

absent the humour is the sudden switch from sweet little old lady that you think will share her radio to nasty old lady that has been waiting years to get her own back. It is the surprise ending type of humour, but obviously not to every ones taste.

For some reason it makes me think of the granny in the Giles cartoons.

My father and DH used to think that Tommy Cooper was hilarious.
My mother and I could never see why!

Brilliant joke nanapug.

Standard and well tried and tested joke formula - set up a scene and then turn it on its head. I loved it!

Gransnet used to be so stiff and stuffy that I moved to Mumsnet. I am so so happy to read this very funny joke and will stay around. Thanks nanapug!

Just because Greatnan has gone, doesn't mean we can't have a thread dedicated to jokes. I think the two that she started and kept going for such a long time were very popular.

Ceesnan Mon 21-Oct-13 19:00:06

I hadn't realised that greatnan had gone. When did she go?

bluebell Mon 21-Oct-13 19:03:56

Stiff and stuffy - did you ever read any of the jokes she posted? I found some of them really made me blush and others laugh out loud. She had a lot of life experiences - some of them very sad. I think that was quite an unfair remark apricot

merlotgran Mon 21-Oct-13 19:05:39

I've been wondering about greatnan as well.

absent Mon 21-Oct-13 19:07:49

Ceesnan Just over a week ago.

Now she is a poster whose perspicacity and intelligence I miss on the forums.

Aka Mon 21-Oct-13 19:39:44

Did she jump or was she pushed?

Bez Mon 21-Oct-13 19:41:00

Is she maybe on holiday? I hope that is the case.

absent Mon 21-Oct-13 20:00:12

She left of her own accord.

dustyangel Mon 21-Oct-13 20:36:52

I'm sorry to hear Greatnan has left. I enjoyed her posts and presumed she was on holiday.

Tegan Mon 21-Oct-13 20:52:25

I thought she was on holiday as well. She's been very kind to me and helped me when I was in a spot of bother about something a while back.

Galen Mon 21-Oct-13 20:55:19

No! I'm afraid she has gone!
Some of us are still in private contact with her.

Tegan Mon 21-Oct-13 20:57:59
