THE SENSITIVITY OF SENIORS
This letter was sent to the Lions Bay School Principal's office in West Vancouver after the school had sponsored a luncheon for seniors. An elderly lady received a new radio at the lunch as a door raffle prize and was writing to say thank you.

This story is a credit to all humankind. Forward this to anyone you know who might need a lift today...

Dear Lions Bay School:
God bless you for the beautiful radio I won at your recent Senior Citizens luncheon.
I am 89 years old and live at the West Vancouver Home for the Aged.
All of my family has passed away so I am all alone.

I want to thank you for the kindness you have shown to a forgotten old lady.
My roommate is 95 and has always had her own radio. She would never let me listen to it.
She said it belonged to her long dead husband, and understandably, wanted to keep it safe.

The other day her radio fell off the nightstand and broke into a dozen pieces.
It was awful and she was in tears.
Later, she asked if she could listen to mine, and I was overjoyed that I could tell her to fuck off.

Thank you for that wonderful opportunity.
God bless you all.

Sincerely,
Margaret.

I am so sorry to hear that Greatnan has left. A strong, sensible, caring lady whose posts I will miss.

Why different people like different types of humour is weird. I fall about laughing at Father Ted. South Park and such like, just don't really do it for me.

Now you're talking, Nellie. It was such a bit loss to comedy that Dermot Morgan died before his time. My GC are all hooked on The Simpsons which is one of the few shows that can appeal to all ages on different levels. Brilliant and satirical.

Gretnan all who wanted messages passed on. It's done!
I am now definitely to bed. Vim looking after DGD tomorrow while DD has arest! ( unless she's produced by then!)
Night all!

Just called in to see what's what and read that Greatnan has left! Galen please pass on my best wishes and hope that she'll do a J0 and come back to us.

Ana Mon 21-Oct-13 22:40:18

I'm not at all sure jingl will come back this time.

absent Mon 21-Oct-13 22:41:30

It's like having moths. Once there's one of them, they're absolutely everywhere.

Ana Mon 21-Oct-13 22:43:03

Mothballs....

Mishap Mon 21-Oct-13 22:43:22

Galen - please do pass on my good wishes to Greatnan. I know that her posts on the denied contact thread will have helped many people; and she has given me good advice in her time.

absent Mon 21-Oct-13 22:46:22

Ana So what would be the virtual equivalent of mothballs to rid the threads of this ubiquitous ex-member?

Ana Mon 21-Oct-13 22:48:32

Which one? confused

absent Mon 21-Oct-13 22:49:50

Ubiquitous is a clue. smile

Ana Mon 21-Oct-13 22:55:01

I don't particularly want to rid the threads of anyone, absent.

Flowerofthewest Mon 21-Oct-13 23:05:33

All the best to Greatnan, will miss her.sad

absent Mon 21-Oct-13 23:18:15

If not moths, then bindweed – creeps everywhere.

kittylester Tue 22-Oct-13 07:12:40

Did greatnan say she was going - why and how did I miss that? I've notice the lack of posts but thought I must have missed her saying she was going on holiday. thlsad

Granny23 Tue 22-Oct-13 07:35:58

I will also greatly miss Greatnan, who having led (still leading!) an interesting and varied life was able to make worthwhile contributions on many topics. I have learnt a lot from her posts and come to admire her.

Greatnan - truly one of the Gransnet 'Greats' wine

Iam64 Tue 22-Oct-13 07:44:06

Good toast granny23 - definitely a Gransnet Great

Aka Tue 22-Oct-13 08:03:16

Ah, the mist is lifting.

absent Tue 22-Oct-13 08:05:18

Indeed Greatnan was a hugely valuable and highly valued member of Gransnet. I think she just went for her own reasons and saw no need to make an unnecessary fuss and comment about it.

Aka Tue 22-Oct-13 08:08:10

Yes, Greatnan and J0 were very different characters weren't they?

absent Tue 22-Oct-13 08:43:30

Aren't we all? Aka Aren't we all?

Aka Tue 22-Oct-13 08:47:54

Not a bad thing Absent variety is the spice of life.

Not that I see Greatnan as a spice, more a thickening agent, something that holds everything together and J0 ? probably chilli flakes, you need to be certain to add just the right amount.

absent Tue 22-Oct-13 08:51:51

Greatnan was never thick or stodgy and j08 never once recognised when enough was enough.

Aka Tue 22-Oct-13 09:26:14

Absent you have misinterpreted me. I intended no insult to Greatnan, indeed I spoke of her as an agent for binding people together and I thought that was my point about chilli.

Please don't take offence where none was intended
