I think I might be the type of woman who drives women's libbers insane. I was brought up to defer to men and it's generally what I do...*ducking for cover*... even if I don't really agree with what a man says or does which is fine if you have a lovely man like DH who actually encourages me to make decisions for both of us but it left me open to terrible abuse by ex.

I read, don't know if its true, in the womb to start with, we are all the same, then...... their bits (mens) fall down and ours stay nice and tidy and tucked in, so I think if they are not strong enough to keep their bits in Why should I ever Defer to them grin

My sons' partners wouldn't defer to anyone! Not even to me. grin And I don't think deference is in my granddaughters' DNA.

Defer to men? Never, ever. I am the eldest of three girls with a mother who believed a good education and a profession was a woman's best preservative from want (to misquote Jane Austen). My parents had a marriage of total equality and for most of my childhood my mother worked.

I went to an all girls school and from there to a very male technically orientated northern university - and held my own - and continued to hold my own through a career, mainly, in the engineering industry.

DH comes from a home where his mother was the main wage earner, she was a teacher. His father worked in car manufacturing, which in the 1940s and 1950s was a seasonal job, so he was used to working women, and a house where the woman's work was economically important.

I was an only child and went to an all girls grammar school so it never occurred to me to defer to men because they were men. I don't mind deferring to someone who knows more than I do about a subject (Even DH sometimes!) but I'm not impressed by them just because they're men.

I was an only child too and have always got on better with men than women in a lot of scenarios. Men don't seem to be as catty and are easier to read than a lot of women
