I thought it would be a good idea to open a thread where those of us who are upset by this news can comfort each other. Better to share thoughts here and leave the IMPORTANT thread for on-going efforts to find her.

We will indeed, and that's a promise. I will do it now.

tanith Wed 06-Nov-13 12:10:48

My heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.

Ariadne Wed 06-Nov-13 12:11:52

Done.

So very sad. The news we've all feared. I was thinking about Carol a lot last night, in the night, this morning.....and like sunseeker I'm not on FB. So what I will do now is light another candle for Carol - one of rememberance this time, and of thanks for the person she was, in celebration of her life and to mark her passing into what may be an even greater light. In great sadness, but proud to be part of this community of powerful, caring women.

Please do the same for me [I'm also not on Facebook]. I realised a long time ago how 'real' internet friendships were.

Having read the post on Facebook, I think they are only requesting that people post there and don't try to contact the family directly in other ways. No problem with posting here I think. flowers

oh! How very, very sad. She was an amazing woman.

whenim64 Wed 06-Nov-13 12:17:27

Yes, ok to post here, and condolences from GN passed to Carol's family, if you are not able to see the Missing page.

Ariadne Wed 06-Nov-13 12:17:33

Oh yes, she certainly was!

Minty Wed 06-Nov-13 12:19:39

Bless all of you who have obviously been such a support to family and to each other.

How very sad.

RIP Carol .. the intrepid.

JessM Wed 06-Nov-13 12:26:30

The plea on FB is for us not to send individual emails PMs etc.
She was an impressive woman who did much for others - pupils, family and I'm sure many more. In later life the way she did what she loved best was truly impressive and an inspiration.
She would have been proud and touched by the way so many people, many of the GN members, have worked and done their bit to help find her.

Penstemmon Wed 06-Nov-13 12:28:01

A feisty strong woman.. she seemed to live every day with enthusiasm.

gillybob Wed 06-Nov-13 12:28:50

Such terrible news. I have never met Carol but have had many interesting conversations with her on Gransnet so feel that I did "know" her a little. She always seemed to be such a stong lady who lived her life to the full and had done more in her life than many of us will ever do. My heart goes out to her dear family and friends. xx

Sorry but I don't do facebook.

Aurelia Wed 06-Nov-13 12:29:27

I think Simon is just asking that people do not contact the family directly, so it's fine to post here.

glassortwo Wed 06-Nov-13 12:34:02

Can I just say thank you to when granjura anno and all the other unnamed people who have done everything in their powers to help in the search for Carol. You are all amazing. {{{hugs}}}

Grannylin Wed 06-Nov-13 12:35:25

The adventures, the causes.....the jokes! Miss you Carolx

Elegran Wed 06-Nov-13 12:35:46

Rereadng the FB page, I see it that way too. They do not want to be overwhelmed by direct messages of support.

This is the news that we have all been dreading, but hoped not to get. Carol was a strong woman, who always followed her path bravely, even if it was a difficult one. I believe that if she could have chosen her end, it would have been on one of her walks in her beloved mountains.

Her posts will be missed on Gransnet.

baubles Wed 06-Nov-13 12:36:34

Seconded and that includes you glass. Much love to you all xx

I wish I could send real flowers

hespian Wed 06-Nov-13 12:39:38

I have followed all the concerns about Carol since her disappearance. I am so sad to read the update. She obviously had a lot of friends on Gransnet. I am thinking of them and her family now. "No man is an island -ask not for whom the bell tolls"

Aka Wed 06-Nov-13 12:58:48

So sad.

grrrranny Wed 06-Nov-13 13:12:49

Just so sad.

HMHNanna Wed 06-Nov-13 13:17:00

I know that Carol was much loved and respected. My condolences RIP Carol

MaggieP Wed 06-Nov-13 13:27:55

The very sad news that we all were dreading, what tragedy and my heartfelt thoughts and condolences go to all Carol's loved ones and friends.
I don't do Facebook either so hope GN will also be sending our messages from GN HQ?

Stansgran Wed 06-Nov-13 13:32:53

I don't do Facebook so my condolences are on here. I feel relieved that her body has been found . When I babysat in Geneva she offered to meet up because it was a very lonely situation and I was very grateful for her thoughtfulness. I must add my great respect for Granjura and all that she has done.
