kitty I sent you [hugs] but 1000 messages later means that we need to open an extension.

It's been a strange day. Apart from worrying about the whereabouts of Greatnan I've not been very productive. The weather is behaving in an unsettled fashion. Inky clouds, Lashing rain. The promise of a brighter sky. Please keep coming to the kitchen. I would miss the company of you lot if you stayed away. smile

If it helps, the local papers are saying that she was found near La Grotte du Jourdy near Mieussy. There are library images of this beautiful spot on Google images. I found it comforting to see.
I have raised my glass of pink fizz to her.

Nelliemoser Wed 06-Nov-13 16:07:21

I am just moving in until the spring keep me a space on the floor. Oops! I don't need to with the ever expanding Sofa. see you soon.

So very well said, when ...and as OGM suggests (((hugs))) all round. I was feeling much worse yesterday - hoping against all odds that Carol could be found alive. Now that the search is over, I feel a deep sense of peace. Her family must be so proud of her. Lots of love to you all. flowers

whenim64 Wed 06-Nov-13 15:07:34

Later on, when rawness fades, we can remember her and share stories - her lefty leanings, disregard for pomp, un-PC attitude to a good joke, preparedness to try anything and ingenuity in quick-fix DIY!

Tegan Wed 06-Nov-13 15:03:07

That's exactly how I feel today OGM. But know she would tell me to snap out of it.

Oldgreymare Wed 06-Nov-13 14:56:29

Hugs all round.
So very sad, 'doing what she loved best' but still with so much living to do.
Must remember to celebrate all Carol's achievements which were legendary and try not to dwell on her plans for her future. This is difficult as she had shared her hopes and plans with so many of us.

merlotgran Wed 06-Nov-13 14:54:54

Doesn't it make your heart sink when you log in and see the Tribute thread? We've been hanging on to every word on the Updates thread for over a week and now we know all hope is lost sad

janeainsworth Wed 06-Nov-13 14:52:51

It seems that it wouldn't have made any difference, from what Matthew put on FB. I'm not going to post anything more today, I just feel too sad for Carol and her lovely family.

gracesmum Wed 06-Nov-13 14:43:47

Can I come in for a wee hug? The waiting was torture and Carol's family have been through hell. One look at that lovely picture with the wee ones on the FB page has just finished me off.
As you say however ,*whenim*, "gone from us doing what she loved " so to think of one's personal loss is perhaps selfish of me.
I too have thought what you were thinking phoenix, but to dwell on what might have been only makes it harder to take. sad

soop Wed 06-Nov-13 14:17:20

There is a cushion plumped in readiness for you nightowl We are trying to enjoy the good memories that we have of Carol. She was "sparky"...would have hated us to be maudlin. smile

nightowl Wed 06-Nov-13 14:01:27

I'm at work but I would love to join you all when I finish to remember Carol. The news is hard to take in. Difficult to concentrate this afternoon I think.

soop Wed 06-Nov-13 13:00:05

Grannylin the sofa can be as large as it needs to be. We need the company of each other. I feel peaceful inside because Carol is no longer "missing"...

Mr soop has poured me a wee dram. Here is to the happy memories we have of Carol. Slainte! x

Grannylin Wed 06-Nov-13 12:55:05

Cheers Carol wine

whenim64 Wed 06-Nov-13 12:46:55

A one-off, soop. Gone from us doing what she loved. Let's raise a glass to her memory. There are lovely stories about her escapades and quirky outlook on life, which she lived to the full. Cheers to you, Carol wine

soop Wed 06-Nov-13 12:32:56

Oh dear! Carol was indeed a special breed of woman. flowers

soop Wed 06-Nov-13 12:27:06

phoenix What are you saying? I must check right away. confused

soop Wed 06-Nov-13 12:26:02

Good morning Galen and when...tuck into the goodies. Agus Mr soop reminded me that the hearing aid was in fact in excess of £5000. I have the little case in which it should be stored. With it, is a booklet that reminds me that it is in fact property of the NHS, Heck! If I hadn't searched and found it in the bin, I'd have been in deep doo dah! shock

Anne58 Wed 06-Nov-13 12:25:22

Just popped in to be sad and angry. Can't help thinking if the authorities had taken it seriously sooner, the outcome might have been different.

Just needed to get it off my chest.

soop Wed 06-Nov-13 12:20:32

Charleygirl what's mine is yours. No need to provide your own rug. Tara and Rory may well get along fine. Rory, though large and bolshie looking, is a real sweetie. When he walks through the door into the garden, the birds continue pecking away on the ground. He walks right on and refuses to be tempted. Whereas if he gets wind of mouse...wink

OGM What do you think of the David Tennant drama. It does have merit, 'though I find some aspects ever so slightly "far fetched"...
I hope that the hot toddy was a comfort.

JessM Please listen to the good advice given by your Granspals. Thoughts of you walking along a wall with heavy shopping make the hairs on the back of my neck stand to attention. One slip is all it takes to do yourself some serious damage. Now, sit down and let me pour you a fresh cup of coffee.

Nellie 3:00 hours is a tad too soon for me to join you in the kitchen. You are such a tyke!

Lona you are always welcome. There is plenty of room for everyone. The more the merrier smile

Gracesmum hot chocolate and marsh mallows: a soothing, wicked combination. Decadent in fact! Count me in...
As for "grand dog Basil" - I love the name. My parents had a Siamese cat that answered to the same name. That cat was sooooooooo stuck-up!

Elegran I learn such a lot of sensible stuff whenever I read your posts...you would make a fine ambassador of something or other.

anno Tegan Positivepam and all those whose pets were given a fright during firework night, the CD sounds like a good way of acclimatising an animal to loud explosions. I had no idea that there was a thing. How much worse must it be for stray animals with no one to comfort them. The bonfire in the village, together with fireworks, is three and a half miles away. We didn't hear a thing, apart from the wind and the sound of waves breaking on the shore.

Charleygirl Wed 06-Nov-13 11:27:15

Soop I brought my own rug when I sat on the sofa with Rory. The sofa is so clean, comfortable and new I did not want the slightest thing to stain it. I also drank my gorgeous coffee in the kitchen for the same reason. I do try to take care of other people's homes as I do my own. I could not bring Tara as she would have been frightened of Rory. She is bullied here by 2 ginger toms.

soop Wed 06-Nov-13 11:10:26

Sorry to be so late joining you lot for coffee and Granspal check-ups. I see that there is a whole lot of news to read and I do not wish to miss a thing. So, what I'm going to do is...leave you with the coffee pot and flapjacks that I nicked borrowed from bags and sort out a few pressing jobs around the house. After which, I shall return with a clear conscience and enjoy reading all your messages. Look after each other in the meantime. Plenty of room on the sofa. Rory is fast asleep on the second best tartan rug...in the middle of the bed. wink

Elegran Wed 06-Nov-13 11:00:19

A village in the borders where we often went at weekends is in the flightpath of military jets doing lowlevel training exercises. Apparently they used the large bright tin roof of a barn as a marker to change direction, so it was the focus of the noise.. The animals are largely accustomed to the racket, but a newly bought prize bull (at vast price) was being kept in that very barn, and dropped dead. A large claim for compensation followed (which was paid up).

Tegan Wed 06-Nov-13 10:31:26

I tried to do that last night by not making a fuss of her. Spoke to someone a while back whose dog actually had a firework land on it's back one year, and the dog doesn't bother about fireworks at all. We live near to a fireworks factory and all the local horses are totally bomb proof when it comes to loud noises because they're so used to it. Just hope there are no fireworks going off tonight as we're going out. I'll try to download the firework tape but I don't hold out much hope. There have been fireworks going off for a week or so and she didn't react so I thought we'd cracked it till last night.
